The Battle of Isandlwana (Isandhlwana) - 1879 Zulu British War( Part 2) Historical Cinematic Battle
On January 22, 1879, marked the first major encounter in the Anglo-Zulu War between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom. This battle, a significant chapter in Zulu history, unfolded just eleven days after the British invaded Zululand in Southern Africa. A formidable Zulu force of around 20,000 warriors attacked a segment of the British main column, which consisted of approximately 1,800 British, colonial, and native troops, along with around 350 civilians.
The Zulu warriors, primarily armed with traditional assegai iron spears and cowhide shields, also had a limited number of muskets and antiquated rifles. In contrast, the British and colonial troops were equipped with modern Martini-Henry breechloading rifles, two 7-pounder mountain guns, and a Hale rocket battery. Despite their technological disadvantage, the Zulus vastly outnumbered the British, leading to a fierce Zulu attack.
The Isandlwana battlefield saw the Zulu warriors using their numerical superiority to overwhelm the British. The Zulu Battle of Isandlwana resulted in the deaths of over 1,300 British troops, including all those on the forward firing line, while the Zulu army suffered between 1,000 and 3,000 casualties. This Zulu vs British confrontation was a decisive victory for the Zulus and caused the defeat of the first British invasion of Zululand.

Thanks for open story by this video. There was a small "skirmish " on the 6th near Vermaarks on the Biggarsberg when Shepstone arrested the male inhabitants of a local kraal who had been signalling troop movements. Then on the way back from meeting Woods the Chelmsford party raided a group of kraals and liberated a herd of cows. In fact several hundred cattle, some horses and a number of sheep and goats is how Norris Newman puts it. So the first hostile action would I assume have been credited to Shepstone. The first casualty was a member of the NNC at the commencement of the attack on Sirayo's kraal, he was wounded by a sniper.

A number of contentious issues are raised in this thread, not all of which are true. Zululand was a tribal polity, not a "sovereign state". Vermaaks, for instance is in Natal, not Zululand, and can hardly be used to state that it was "the British who initiated contact." Drownings while crossing the Buffalo hardly fit within the definition of a 'skirmish'. Reasons for the war have been bandied about as if at a tap room bar. Equating them with a greedy modern superpower's manipulations is a gross over-simplification. Really this subject-matter requires a discrete thread of its own.
Fascinating video of the Battle of Isandlwana! It's incredible to see how the Zulu warriors, despite their disadvantage in weaponry, were able to overwhelm a modern British force through sheer numbers and tactical prowess. Good video but the part where the gauls say the romans took the land in italy from the gauls is not correct. Italy was never gaul territory, it was the gauls invading roman and etruscan lands.

Im finisihng a grosset book where it talks about nabis, and I was utter interested. Thanks for the video. When I see so many people killing each other I cant stop thinking that it could be me in there, at the middle of the battle, dying like a poor butchered flesh

The book it's about Rome and didn't felt into the Laconia war yet, altho they mention Nabis on Sparta as a tyrant, and the place whos once was beautiful turned into a hive for pirates and mercenaries under Nabis. Still don't know much of his story yet but just to see his policies of disowning landowners it's predictable that his a power seeking tyrant. Unfortunately Sparta was too hidden within mountains, which was good for defense but not so much for their cultural advance, even in technology of war, you can see the romans had leverage in every way...@@UnvelingHistory
