I think at the end when he's talking about "what this thing here is for" he's talking about his guitar... right after he says the line "what this thing here is for" he pauses singing and strums his guitar in a new little pattern that is different from the rest of his strumming in the song... that's just what i've always assumed... just a thought

Great analysis. Once again showing how effective these weapons could be and how overlooked they are compared to the amount of attention given to firearms and bladed weapons. (Not saying that saps, brass knuckles, blackjacks, etc are as deadly as guns and knives - but, as you point out, that's by design. And they do exactly what they were designed to do very, very well.)

Tell me you don't know anything about drugs without telling me etc... The badge of the cop is never "shown" it's just known. Cops buy drugs all the time; he's a repeat customer. Coonskin cap guy is (as you imply) a straight-laced person, so the "need 11 only got 10" means that dude is pretending to help but not, like a motel clerk up-charging so he can't be let in, or any number of ways people fake sympathy then claim the price is too high. Your contextual understanding of 1965 is really weak. Worthy exploration of a great song, looking forward to a (shorter) follow-up with more primary sources and fewer grasps and guesses.

I'll tell you a story you'll enjoy. I was in Baltimore city jail. My best friend was in there with me. We were in a dorm. Im more the work-out and read books. My buddy is the gambler and joker. So one morning after breakfast everyone went back to sleep. Im in my bunk i hear boom boom boom. Im out of bed first boim i hear my boy talking shit. I round the bunk for the 3rd boom then one woosh. An the guy puts up his fist my boy says come on. Dude just falls face first. So the story goes. Guy was trying to steal from a old white guy. My boy was over there sitting by the wall. He was waiting for the old guy to get out the shower. The night before my boy said this guy was a theif he'd been locked up with him before. So we made a sock with 3 liza soap bars. They are small but not motel small. Any way he got 3 heavy shot the fourth was all powder. But it made homeboy go down and knotted his head up. He tried to pull the white boy attacked me. We were from the neighborhood that was on that teir. They took all his stuff and he checked in. The other weapon that was bad was a belt and lock. That is another story with a very sad ending. I also used a spring load it didn't do as i thought. Almost got killed with a pitchfork, yes it really happened. My dog and Girl saved me. Sadie the pitbull brought fear to all of westport. She didn't like Drugdealers. I have no idea why. Well i have a guess. Anyway Soap and a sock excellent weapon. My buddy was not a fighter and was super out of shape. Badguy was tall and thin and 20 to our being 35 year old bums.

I remember seeing a man in a gray jacket snoking a cigarette with a suitcase leaning against that tree very vividly. He looked right at me and he gave me a very bad feeling and its never left my memory even after the fbi was 100 percent certain lee was the shooter all these years that man with the breifcase still gives me a bad feeling. In France they used rubber batons (and still do for riots) shortly after the huge riots of may 68. They’re still in use, they’re much, much longer though, I’d say about 70 cm which is like 28 inches. So the flexibility of the baton really comes into play, very painful strikes, they almost have a whipping motion, also they have the advantage of not breaking the skull as you’d risk it with a modern ASP baton, so very useful for riots when there’s a brawl, you don’t have to think about where to strike, you just strike, a lot.
