This was such a heart breaking situation. I have a daughter about that same age and we both agonized over this. I felt so bad for her Mama.
It truly is such a sad story. It baffles me.
May have wondered 20 miles away....
I watched on a different channel that Rachel was found by someone else.
Found by a different person than her boyfriend and the guy from 49th parallel?

In Pre European New Zealand, the Māori would dry out the Kākahi (Freshwater Mussels) to oreserve them for winter. I'm not sure if they rehydrated them before they ate them or how they were used at all when dried, all i know is that they were an important source of protein in the winter. Eel and shark were also dried. There's also a Māori recipe called Toroi, which is mussels boiled with either watercress or pūhā (type of dandelion) once it's cooled down, it's stored in a clean container and kept in a cool place like a refrigerator to ferment. Scientists actually looked into toroi to see how healthy (or unhealthy) it was and it was actually quite healthy with a lot of good bacteria that can be found in yoghurts, sourdough etc
Thanks for all the great info!
We have freshwater mussels here in New Zealand but they're considered "threatened" due to invasive fish like trout and carp. They've also nearly eaten our freshwater crayfish (Crawfish i think you yanks call them) and they're also considered threatened. Some freshwater fish have actually been eaten to extinction by these invasive species. It's a real pity too because the freshwater mussels actually help to clean water, something which is needed due to the high nitrogen levels caused by dairy farming here in New Zealand. We need dairy farming or our economy would be shot but at the same time we put so much at risk
This is when you know that song gets used too much
😂 Sometimes I like throwing in background music that you usually wouldn’t hear when it comes to wilderness videos. I could have used the typical backwoods acoustic music but that’s been done before.
Birch bark sure is
❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
I would use diesel also. You can't make a good fire starting video without fuel.
😂😂
That’s a good one 😂
I am familiar with area for 25 years. My family live up there. Under normal conditions, a hiker cannot get lost there. A child cannot get lost there! But it happens with solo hikers, the reason being that they fall. They fall into a draw or a crevasse by stepping off the trail momentarily to get a better view of something (or for a bowel movement). That is when they slip then fall usually resulting in a disabling injury and roll further in the draw covered by debris. No one can hear them. They succumb to hyperthermia 24 to 48 hours later. Animals scatter the remains. There are other scenarios of course but not prevalent. I have been vocal about this subject for a long time because I am annoyed by the tragedies and the usual associated naivete. Never, never give up the search. Mountain lions are always active and oddly to me the creatures in Wetsern Wash seem to be getting more bold of late. Bears west of the Cascades are not a problem, but always carry bear spray. Personally, I carry a firearm (always and legally) and bear spray. GPS devices for hikers are awesome, but experienced hikers in a group and minimally equipped don't need them. I am also annoyed when I see hikers in the mountains not carrying at least 30 feet of climbing rope, unbelievable. Solo hikers are usually competent and capable, but bad things can happen to the best of us. Three years ago an experienced solo hiker an Army Lieutenant from Fort Lewis was literally running a trail on Mt St Helens, a routine he had done already several times. I've been on these trails and they are dangerous. He was alone and was not equipped, but that didn't matter. He slipped on the trail and fell 200 feet to his death. Hikers and campers who go missing is common enough, but there are many instances that have no explanation. So, always be prepared.
Thanks for your insight! I hope they can find her one day!
Hi friend! Please enjoy your weekend at the campsite ❤!
Отличная находка кушайте на здоровье ❤
That’s a bluegill
Bluegills are one of the species category known as sun fish. I just didn’t know for certain so I called it a sunfish. 😀
Actually, you’re wrong. It is a red breast sunfish bluegills have blue gills on them hence the name.
Use that for bait my friend. You caught it legally to be able to use for bait. Better hold on thought 😎
I will have to up my game soon for the big pike in there. Thanks bud!
👍🎣
Not the most knowledgeable person in fishing but I don’t think pike would be eating a worm try throwing a swim bait like a bluegill also I’ve caught a few northern on a walking bait or whopper plopper
Thanks for the tip bud! I have caught a lot of bass with worms but didn’t know pike are less likely to be enticed with one. Thanks for watching!

@@vazsurvival7539 pin it brother!!!!! I am always looking for humor in most everything. Saw this and had to come in with it as well.
Been hiking all over the cascades since 2005, there are trails all over, forest service roads everywhere, lots of people out hiking, one just cannot simply get lost there, unless he/she is trapped or injured and cannot move on their own,
That makes this case even more baffling. Maybe she went off trail like Geraldine Largay?
Good piece to have thanks jay😊
Thanks bud!
Is this your preferred beacon?
It’s my only beacon but I got it because it has fantastic ratings and I have read true survival stories of people using it and being rescued. ❤️
@@vazsurvival7539 Fair enough. My wife and I have been looking for one as we are getting into more outdoor excursions off of the well traveled paths. Thank you!

Gun and ammo
I will be the most prepared with the least effective tools for a job I am under qualified for.
You look like you're trying to lure a bear in for you
Not sure what you mean. 😂 Besides a gun, and being a loud camper these are the crucial items you need to scare away a black bear.
12 gauge.
That would be the most effective weapon and would give some peace of mind. However not everyone owns a gun.
Lesson = never climb in the Cascades alone
She wasn’t climbing, she was on a 6.8 mile both ways pretty light hike
Have some ammo 😂😂😂😂
😂
There are pretty big critters and people who have a tweaked intentions who stroll around out there. Israel Keys comes to mind. He stated that he unalived 2 women who he crossed paths with during his stroll. Another stroll he had “surprise s$x” with but spared her life due to her not putting up a fuss.
He lived up there in the Washington mountains with lots of siblings living off of the land.
Let me know when you man up and decide to go on "Alone". :D
😂 They contacted me last year for an interview and wanted to put me into the second round. Unfortunately I take blood thinners so the medical team said I couldn’t do it at that time. No lie. 😢

Where is there free sites? I thought you had to pay at all of them these days.
There are still a few places in the mountains that are free. This one is in bethel New Hampshire. I found one of the more secluded sites a quarter mile from the next site.

Me and my son are eating some now. We purged ours for 72 hours changing the water about twice a day. They came out very clean and actually taste great. They are pretty tough however ours were a good bit larger probably why they are tough. Great video thanks. Try them with Tabasco.
The key is the witness who claimed to see her go down the opposite side of the mountain. 🤔
Nice! Great walk, one of the better ones on CZcams

I’m sure I had anaplasmosis last year. Negative for COVID, flu, West Nike. Even had a brain MRI, the headaches were so severe. Doc’s office finally mentioned anaplasmosis today, months later. A real aha moment. Glad you got treatment. BTW I am also in MA.
I am glad you are ok! It can be fatal if left untreated but I’m so happy you ended up being ok!!
What is the weight of this bad boy? Nice channel!!! Hit me up when you come to South Africa!
It’s not very heavy. It lasted a long time for me. I camped in the backwoods close to 40 times before the floor started to leak a bit during a major rain storm. Thanks so much for watching!
