Driving South to Salamanca Part 2
The last part of our journey from San Sebastian to Salamanca.
The sun became much more intense, the roads more patchy and the landscape sandier coloured.
Salamanca was a beautiful part of our trip and we intend to return and tour the ancient parts in more detail.

Driving South to Salamanca Part 1

This is a long one After leaving a rainy and lush San Sebastian, we headed south west to Salamanca. The weather improved and the scenery became more arid. Driving in Spain was pretty relaxed most of the way, but the road surfaces were becoming less good. Highway service stations were mainly good, the Galp Service Station leaving San Sebastian is still our favourite. Many thanks for watching

Part 2 of our trip through France. Leaving Cherbourg we join the national route south through the famous Normandy countryside. It was D-Day weekend, so the area was swamped by visitors remembering and re-enacting those tragic and heroic events. Many thanks for watching.
Rosslare to Cherbourg - Stena Line

We started our trip with the Stena Line Ferry from Rosslare to Cherbourg. It was a smooth sailing, though our car battery died during the crossing. The deck supervisor got us a jump start in a few minutes. Apparently you can lock your car with the key hidden inside your fob which goes under the drivers door handle. Driving through North Wales - Bala to Holyhead

Here we are collecting a car from North Wales for our trips around Ireland and beyond. We cover the Snowdon national park area before heading across to Angelsey. We're recording on a new GoPro Hero 12... it'll take a while to work out what settings best suit the car. Overheating is always the main issue, so it's maybe best to reduce the frames per second. Apologies or the random radio chatter.....

That's very helpful, Stephen! It can be a bit daunting finding your way around an airport when you only go once in a blue moon. I can't believe they charge for pick up and drop off!
Yep, it's a bit convoluted and stupidly expensive. We got caught out bringing people up for their holidays. Hopefully it'll help others X 🍀

It’s a disgrace to charge drivers £3 for dropping a person off or lifting at this airport. A very sick taxation on the driver.
I agree, but profiteering is the way of the UK now, even in what should be basic infrastructure.

Can I ask. See at the toll station you went up to a man at the window, Can I pay with contactless? or need to be cash? also are the guys at the window there at night time?
www.tii.ie/roads-tolling/tolling-information/pay-a-toll/ This is the Irish road toll site. I don't think contactless is available, but you can drive through the straight through lane, they'll clock your registration and you can pay later that day/night. I personally go to the booth operator for change from a euro note. I hope the link helps out. Drive safe. Happy New Year!

Can anyone explain why there are two highways numbered M-1 on either side of the border which have no connection to each-other?
Because they have to be special on the island of Ireland.

@@oliverjumelle no, they will never actually connect as M-1 in NI goes away from the border, and they are two different highways systems in different political states. There's no logic to having an M-1 in the Republic of Ireland except to just copy the UK's ideas, and for all intents and purposes it remains national route N-1 in the Republic.
One is in the UK. One is in Ireland/European Union. Simples! NI isn't allowed by London to use Metric and has Miles per hour. Ireland has Kilometres per hour like the rest of Europe and the speed limits change to Kph driving south. M1 isn't an owned way of naming roads
At 44:10 You will NOTICE that the BROKEN Yellow line starts to become a FIXED up joined CONTINUOUS Yellow line, quite fascinating observations.
