    Hi, I know this video is over 2 years old, and I am late to the party. Watching this gave me an idea. The polished wood may be slippery in the hand. If it is cold and wet outside, your fingers may not be working 100%, it would be hard to grip the wood. You could cut grooves into the wood, not deep enough, but half the thickness of the wood. It could be perpendicular vertical and horizontal lines to get squares or slanted angled lines across, to get diamond shaped grooves. This could help improve the grip when holding it, add texture and make it look nicer, in my opinion.

    I see this video is pretty old, but still most informative nevertheless. Would just like to confirm that you can still get those window screen clips in the US? It seems over here in South Africa everybody's using screens with, wait for it… magnetic strips! 🤭😉 I guess I'll have to find out at my nearest hardware store if they still have them or something similar. Pretty sure I've seen the same type of clips used for another application. I've been using two magjig 95s in their universal mounting base with a rip guide attached on my dinky table saw for a couple of years ago now, but I still have four more magjigs unopened in their packaging, which I'd probably bought at the same time off a clearance table! They've become ridiculously expensive here in the meantime, but back then I paid the equivalent of about U$11. Didn't have a use for them then, but I've always had quite a thing about magnets and the switchability of these were simply too much to resist! I just knew I'd be glad to have bought them one day and I think this it!

    • @gfotinakes316
      @gfotinakes316 Před 18 dny

      If you don't have access to these screen clips, you could probably get a 3/4" x 1/8" piece of steel or brass and use a bench vise and ball pean hammer to bend it into the shape you want. I have been using this magnetic fence for years now and it still works as good as ever, and the magnets are excellent. Have a nice winter in South Africa. our summer is heating up right now. How is life down there?

      @stadleroux Před 18 dny

      @@gfotinakes316, wow, thank you so much for your very prompt response, and yes, that's a very good idea! I may just ask my brother to help me out with that, because he's the metalworker between the two of us and he'd be likely to have an off-cut or two. We're just outside Cape Town, so it's winter rainfall area here and we've been having a lot of it recently too, which makes it a little less convenient for me to get things done, because I do a lot of work with larger stuff outside under an awning. But it's still a lot better than drought anyway! So, all things considered, life here is pretty great, thanks. I'm retired, so I can spend more or less as much or as little time in the workshop as I want, trying my hand at woodwork. I can't call myself a woodworker yet, because I really haven't made anything of substance for general use yet. I've made a few items for my personal use in the workshop to make life a little easier there, but mostly without plans and just by sheer trial and error, and watching lots and lots of these great instructional videos you guys put up here on CZcams! 👏👌 You'll probably never know exactly how much they are appreciated, even though they may sometimes contain just a single tip in the whole video that catches the viewer's eye at just the right moment. In this video's case I probably won't make this fence right away, because I REALLY need to create some order in my workshop, and for that I need more organised storage space, and for that I've just started putting up French cleats on the walls recently, but I shall definitely make this fence some time in the not too distant future. Those cleats, incidentally, are why I'm stuck for as long as it's raining, because I need to saw a full sheet of plywood in two, one half for the backing board and probably about half of the other for the cleats, for now, and that I can only do outside... I'm rambling, sorry! ☺️ You keep well over there and please don't stop making videos, and thanks once again, to ALL of you guys and gals! 🙏

    One of the big problems with water conservation is that water is too cheap. In your example of wasting 1500 gallons per year, the actual cost of that water from the utility company is in the range of $6 to $8 dollars ($3 to $4 for 75 gallons). The payback, even if you install it yourself, will take 28.75 years! ($230 cost of system / $8 in savings per year). I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but the return on investment is not a reason. I'm installing one because I want hot water now, not wait two minutes.

    • @gfotinakes316
      @gfotinakes316 Před měsícem

    to uninstall the older costco, you need to separate the plastic seal piece. The new Michelin is much easier.

      I have not noticed a change in the "J" hook design in the last 5 years.

    Thanks for the video I'm glad you went step by step because the instructions that came in the box read more about all the different parts vs how to install it. Thanks for the tips because it was counter intuitive

      My pleasure! I hope you try this project. By the way, a viewer told me that there is a type of mesh tape that you can use in the joint area to increase the strength of the joint.

    How did you mount the 2x4's to the block wall

      1. I drilled a 1/2" holes about 1/2" deep into the 2x4 with a forsner bit. 2. I then drilled a 3/8" hole through the 2x4 in the center of the 1/2" holes. 3. I then set the 2x4 up to the block wall. 4. I then took a 3/8" masonry drill bit set it into each hole of the 2x4 and drilled enough to make a mark into the block. 5. I now took the masonry bit and bored deep enough into the block to set a lead insert into each hole. 6. I now took 3/8" lag bolts and drove them with my drill driver through the 2x4 holes and into the lead inserts until they were snug. ( Make sure you buy bolts long enough to go into the lead insert and through the 2x4). 7. NOTE: Several different types of anchors could go into your block wall holes, ask your local hardware person to explain the positive and negative of each type. You may want to try drilling these holes at places in the block filled with concrete. Usually, this will be near the bottom and at block cement joint seams. Good luck, let me know how it goes.

    I was thinking of a key in a keyway. Put 2 shallow grooves opposite each other in the shaft of the large spinning top. Put 2 wedges opposite each other in your drive chuck. The wedges engage the slots for the drill to spin the top and disengage as you pull the drill off the top.

      That sounds like a good idea, maybe I will give that a try! Thanks for your clever idea.
