The Secret To What Colleges Want In Students
zhlédnutí 41Před 21 dnem
The college admissions process (thecollegeinvestor.com/32174/college-admissions-process/) is notoriously competitive. The last several decades might even indicate that getting into college has become harder, overall. College acceptance rates hover at a national average of 68%, though the rate at some of the nation’s top institutions is a shocking 3%. Let’s put that into perspective, though. Of ...

2:38 it reflects the latest tax law changes that have been made within the software. Is helpful. So, if I need to complete a past return, say 2017 or 2018. It will have all changes since it's original 2018 version, already updated? Before submitting/filing, does it give an option to fully print off both Federal and State returns to keep a paper copy? I did not see that part or a print icon in this video. Thanks
If you need to file past returns you have to use the specific year for the return. You cannot use the 2023 tax year to file an older return - the forms and rules are different. Honestly you need a tax pro to file if you’re going back to 2017 or 2018. Second, you can print a copy and save it (it’s recommended you do this), but only after you pay. It defeats the purpose of paying if you can print and mail it in without paying.
Thanks for sharing!
Is -1500 a good thing?
It's the lowest SAI that unlocks the most aid. thecollegeinvestor.com/45946/good-sai-student-aid-index/
This change fucked me out of money. I hate the government.
You really blundered by not showing how expensive this is on an annual basis. Like vs a HELOC These are loans for desperate people!
Could you help me? I need to file my Georgia taxes. I have my federal and most of my geogia taxes filled out, except they won't give me one page or get a credit I need without filing online. But I keep reading long T&C and trying out vendors, but they don't just let me fill in a tax form and file it. They keep asking dozens of questions, and then there are boxes on my 1040 that don't correspond with the software and it doesn't get the numbers right. I used freefilefillable forms for federal, but I haven't filed state tax because of this problem. Do you know of online tax platforms that let us just fill in the tax forms without asking all the questions. It's really annoying. I've got like 20 minutes worth of work, but looking for decent software is stealing days of my time.
None will let you fill out the forms without going through their process. They have to from a CYA standpoint and to ensure that things transfer and adjust correctly. You also have to do your federal in order to do your state with any online tax software.

Plain and simple, you have to do the math and evaluate whether it makes sense to take on so much student loan debt so close to retirement. If you can't have it paid off before you retire, then it's clearly not going to pay enough to be worth it. Don't make your life worse for "feelings".
Dang, that's horrible
I believe This TPD discharge from Biden is a scam. I got one a few months back and through SSA and NOW I am getting a review and they likely are trying to cut me off. It is likely many other people are getting review notices now. I felt this would happen and already plan on looking into getting a lawyer if I get bamboozled.
Well, dont be shitty
Though if they are actually medically incapable of working then they should be able to get their student loans discharged due to disability.
Literally only their money. I have a pit of despair inside me every year when people I know graduate and go to college out of high school
More so their parents money. And GOOD LUCK if you are a white male. You will receive 1/5 the opportunity. The guy in this video even explains this in the video. Even though technically they seek “geographically” diverse areas. If you’re not smart enough to see through that… you shouldn’t go to college regardless. Go to trade school. 😊
hows that heartbreaking... people go to school at all ages. and people who are financially irresponsible stay that way even when they old

No. Be careful what career and education you buy. Your buying degree and hoping it turns into a high earning income yearly. Do deep research. BeCareful of Sallie Mae private loan offers !
Unfortunately Im unable to pay for my daughter ledger to go to college... don't want her to miss out on the opportunity could u tell me which one will u prefer
It's not a "which is best overall" or "which do I prefer". Start with the Federal loans offered via your daughter's school's financial aid office. This should be offered when the FAFSA is completed (complete it ASAP if you haven't yet). If you need to borrow more money, then you need to get private loans. You need to get 3-5 quotes from lenders and then compare them to see which offers you the best rates. Here's our list: thecollegeinvestor.com/22108/best-private-student-loans/

No it doesn't. It just tracks your total account value and individual investment value.

yeah, last time i appealed mine in GA, they INCREASED my taxes!
Great vid... Thanks... One question please... What happens at the term end of each investment? Do Raisin give you plenty of notice to withdraw the interest and/or reinvest the initial capital?
There not really a term with savings accounts. For CDs, your money rolls back to your linked account. You can then decide if you want to have a new CD. CDs do NOT rollover. Raisin is rolling out their own sweep account to make this easier (and I think it’s coming soon).
@@Thecollegeinvestor Thanks for your reply. I´m gonna try them out this week! x
I am retired and now 70+ and have made yearly Roth conversions to the point I think I am well set. With pensions and my spouse's SS, we have not needed to tap our IRA's and have thought of using our IRA's to help pay for our grandson's college in about 15 months. Due to inheritances, I have opened Roth accounts for my 2 children and this part time working grandson and have funded each up to the amount of earned income. If the grandson does not take a distribution from his Roth for any reason, it sounds like the Roth account has not created a problem with his college finances? I will do anything to avoid any student loans for this grandson and my own Roth IRA has done extremely well and never used after 17 years of retirement. Grandson loves his football playing and there might be a chance of an athletic scholarship with a college and I am clueless if his Roth account without any distributions would affect a scholarship if one is offered. I really like the idea of using my Roth for grandchild college financial assistance as I would have total control how much and when it is given. Thank you for any feedback you might be able to offer!
A Roth IRA has no impact on financial aid. That being said, it's not a good tool to save for college (or any level) of education. A 529 plan is a better choice if that is what you specifically want to do. And you still have control - a 529 plan has an account owner (you) and a beneficiary (your grandson). A grandparent owned 529 plan also doesn't impact financial aid.
@@Thecollegeinvestor Thank you for your reply. It is helpful information. Perhaps all the publicity about student loan debt problems, I have possibly made an unjustified association with 529 programs. Yeah, probably not logical! Thanks again!
How are people 50+ still paying school loans?
Combo of grad school loans and parents borrowing for their children’s college education.
Is this the latest numbers😮
Yes, 2024 numbers (though the data is through like Q4 2023).
@@Thecollegeinvestor I see thanks
Husband and wife superfund 529 for 2023 numbers for 5 years. Total would be $170,000. Can a trust open a 529 also? If they can I think the trust would probably be able to contribute $17,000 per year or $85,000. Is my thinking correct. Does trust gift count towards lifetime gift tax exemption?
A trust can fund a 529 plan… but your question doesn’t make sense. If it’s an irrevocable trust, the money in the trust has already been “gifted” for the beneficiaries of the trust. If it is revocable, it’s no different than the husband and wife just giving the funds. With that in mind, the only limit to 529 plan contributions are state mandated limits. You can gift any amount you want to a 529 plan. If you’re beyond the gift tax annual exemption, you simply file a gift tax return.
@@Thecollegeinvestor wouldn’t the trust still have to fill out 709 for 5 years since they went over $18,000 examination?
The trust doesn't fill out the 709, the beneficiaries are considered the donors and may have to fill out the gift tax return. Then if the trust contributes, it may or may not need to be filed depending on the 529 plan owner and beneficiary. With that said, it may be tax-inefficient because the trust cannot gain the tax benefits of the 529 plan contribution if you're eligible. I can't seem to think of a situation that using a trust to fund a 529 plan would be beneficial in any way - only would add complications. Just give the money from person to 529 plan. Simple and easy.
@@Thecollegeinvestor Thank you. I was just thinking it might be better for trust to fund 529 with death in mind. Thought maybe IRS could come after estate after owner of 529 passes. That is why i was thinking trust that they couldn’t touch.
@@kevinmeyer8068 No, you simply setup a successor owner (just like an IRA beneficiary). thecollegeinvestor.com/46860/529-plan-if-account-owner-dies/
Schools only care abt attendance because they get more funding per kid that goes. Currently in year 10, 68% attendance but I’m an A-B student.
It varies by location. For example, CA disconnected attendance from funding. And guess what, attendance declined.
Thank you
Is there a loan without needing a cosigner??for undergrads
Federal student loans don’t require a co-signer. Almost all private student loans will. However, there are a few lenders who offer non-co-signer loans, but the dollar-value you can borrow is very low. These are here: thecollegeinvestor.com/16435/how-to-get-a-private-student-loan-with-no-cosigner/

Does Upgrade automatically give you a credit card or is that only an option? I was reading reviews on the Google Store. I hope it's not given automatically.
Upgrade has a full range of products - banking, credit cards, loans, etc. Our review is specifically about the banking (checking and savings). You would need to apply for their credit products if you're interested in that.
I'm asking in general if they give it automatically upon applying. (Might be a silly question and I assume you would have to apply first if they do offer a credit card). I do not need the information about their credit card products.
You will automatically get a banking account. All credit card products will be subject to approval. But the approval process (assuming you’re qualified) will be 30 seconds or less.

Just opened up an account. Question on domestic wires what’s the max amount you can wire ? I know some banks will only allow up to 10k while not in branch.. since discover doesn’t have a branch is there a limit?
There's no limit, but you just call the wire transfer team at Discover. It's kind of expected that you'll be sending a large wire (say for a home downpayment).
Do you know how to order checks I can’t find it anywhere on the app?

"You're dead, sir" "I'm literally standing in front of you..."
Shit I got a credit card but under a boomers name cause I get 0% interest for a year and I just buy what I want and send them big chunks of cash and pay it off in 6 months get what I bought plus tons of free stuff with the points and they make 0$ off me cause I don’t pay interest that’s for suckers
I assumed it had to either be Gen X or Millennials. Boomers were taught by people who were financially literate and Gen Z is becoming more financially literate than their parents
