A video project that I started long ago. Inspired by Joseph Fulton's video I finished the one I started. Respectfully, I offer this small contribution. This story has stuck with me since I was a boy. I wanted my video to focus on the people involved and the fight against natures fury. Please like it and view my other videos. Thank You!
Spent two weeks at number one on the New Zealand top 20 late November to early December 1972. I've listened to a couple of other artists versions and they lack the 'feel'.
Steve Goodman sure could write a song.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written--words and music both. How I love trains! I cry every time I hear it.
Thank you I so much injoyed it. Very nice work
So so true, when America was America. What went wrong ? . I think we all know.
June 2024 Germany
Fabulous classic one that I grew up with. Now in my 70's still means the same to me. Love ❤️
My dat every evening at 5pm. sharp, would wave his lantern to the conductor," who's train had no name".And the conductor waved his back. 70 yrs. later, I still have to live near( at present) a train. Peace, Brenda

Amazing video of a lifeblood song of so many people. The comments make me cry as much as the visuals and song combined. God bless!
This song reminds me a healthy AMERICA and a strong AMERICA. Lets keep it that way.
Beautiful, beautiful Lyrics brings a tear to my eye ;" Ride their fathers magic carpet made of steel"!
I remember my ex marine dad sitting in the dark smoking Marlboros! Everyone trying not to make him upset so the fighting over money or food or whatever did not start! Hopefully he was not going to get too drunk! I had a few good years but that wasn’t them
Steve Goodman would be proud
Thank you Arlo
Beautiful song, makes me cry.
YOU ALL BETTER START FIGHTING FOR YOUR COUNTRY!!! YOU ARE ABOUT TO LOOSE IT!!!
Like his dad, Woody, Arlo is a great storyteller with a song.
The Friday morning line is currently late. But I love the song😂
Love and respect to all the crew of Edmund Fitzgerald.
America the greatest nation on earth but unless you stop hating each other. It’s over.
When the power of love overcomes the love of power then the world will know peace ! 🕊️
I've been on the Canadian Pacific, the Coast Starlight and the Blue Train, also bullet trains in Japan and France - all wonderful but although it isn't nearly as scenic the CONO really is special.
Listening to this you know that Woody is smiling.
The railroad will come roaring back when the sea drowns the ports.
I wonder if he knew old "Dutch" from Arkansas City Kansas. He died 15 years ago. He was my adopted uncle and he played the harmonica and I played the guitar on this song for him and what a blast. Such a sad end for these brave men 😢😢
um evento memorável INESQUECÍVEL paz o amor igualdade drogas sexo rok rool música livres por querer ser feliz livres ❤❤❤❤ nota milll
O yES I READ 😅
Steve Goodman was the most underrated song writer of our time.
❤❤❤❤❤
The first intercity train I ever rode in 1966. It was FAST. It made it from Chicago to CARBONDALE in 5 hours 5 minutes witj 9 stops!
Rest in peace beautiful work Mr.Lightfoot
Great song, exalting “Good morning America” while lyrics describe a diminishing railway, standing in for a diminishing US life? Great story telling by Arlo- from this Canadian’s pov.
Always hope
Steve Goodman nailed it with this wonderful song. RIP Steve
This song inspired some to comment about what was. I lov❤ song this too but hear a call to take the good from the past and rebuild it better for the future.
two of my favorite things: trains, and Arlo singing about them...
I’m about to ride this very train from Chicago to New Orleans in less than 2 hours!!!! Can’t wait😂
My dad loved train songs he probably rode this train. But unlike Arlo he had no ticket.
This song is still true today 😢
Somewhere in the late 70's I got to see Arlo along with Pete Seeger perform at the Greek Theatre in the LA area. Along with his other hits, he performed "City of New Orleans". I was absolutely thrilled! Arlo was always a little unconventional, but that song and that concert I will remember always!
No one I know understands or feels this song like I do.
I believe this song means a lot to so many. No disrespect to you.
Except a Brandy in Kansas City in Westport area in the last half of the 70's she wass quite possibly the most evil b__ch ive ever been around. She would look at you and growl in a deep mans voice _uck me over and over,
Just wants you to got on ride the rails
Politians.
A great ( showcase ? ) for the USA ( ? ) ................. ( my time ago , US freight train hopper ! ) ................ DAVE™🛑
I’m a member of a senior chorus in Ballston Spa,and to my great delight I will be soloing on this song at one of our luncheons. Our chorus director asked us to list our favorite songs and I immediately sent him this one. I will be delighted to sing it for my fellow seniors. I hope they enjoy it as much as I do. Wish me luck!! Elizabeth Delgado
I hope all goes well, you couldn't have picked a better song.
