This short theatre intro comes from the Savoy Newsluxe theatre in Adelaide. The Savoy operated from 1941 to 1961, changing its name to the Globe in late 1961, and eventually closing in 1966. Most larger theatres had some sort of "welcome to our theatre" type banner which screened as an introduction to their program. This scan is from a 35mm nitrate original print.

Jesus, they made some good tv themes back then.
And , of course just a few years earlier in 1967 he was the backing vocalist for the opposition airline Ansett ANA's commercial jingles.
Any experts here? I had a 10 with two small round lights on each side at the front. I cant for the life of me see any other car with indicator and side lights. They all have just one small round white light on either side. Was this an option or a modification someone made. Always looked factory to me. Anyone know???
Awesome, makes me proud to be a croweater! How good did Victor Harbor look before all the development? Think I might write to the tourism dept myself. Five guineas for a week sounds like a bargain!
These wonderful films capturing Australia at its Zenith, self sufficient and truly Australia are a treasure. Today it's unrecognisable and in my view, going to hell if we keep on this trajectory....
I think the announcer is John Cameron Swayze.
No industrial here now, its been ruined by our Gov and Council..full of ice junkies on pensions now..
Awesome!!!
thanks so much for this!
Love that there seems to be so many French speaking people in the attendance! Great footage!
Great pick up re French in crown scene. Caught out by using generic crowd noises. LOL
Dangerous work, doing dry cleaning with gasoline as a solvent.
Too bad there was no air conditioning back then? I wonder how they survived in tropical climate and unairconditioned 1950s car?
SA has always liked to pretend that it is a well-watered place
No mention of the footy? It's a huge part of Geelong. This film was made in the 50's and the Cats had won premierships in 1951 and 1952, would think that would get a mention
I was thinking that too. This film was probably made to attract British migrants, who wouldn't cared about Aussie Rules
Unsung heroes are the war cameramen. Officially not soldiers so not armed and no protection but often at the front line of battle. There is a very excellent doco called 'Shooting War' that covers this topic really well. I have in my collection a Vinten 35mm news camera named The Normandy as it was the model used in the infamous invasion in WW2. It is extremely heavy built out of solid iron and virtually indestructible. Only holds about 100 feet of film and couldn't imagine how difficult running around loading films all the time, clockwork winding to keep it running, changing focus, turret lenses, and aperture manually while dodging bullets, grenades and bombs. Keeping films from getting wet and getting them sent back to HQ somehow to be processed, edited, narrated, printed, and out to theatres and news reel theatres, often within a very short time.
This title is used at the end of Midsomer Murders, Season 18, Episode 2 - Incident at Cooper Hill: czcams.com/video/ZJchbo9D7g8/video.html I assume it was just created for that episode, rather than pay royalties on a scene from "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers".
This would have been shown in movie theatres as part of a newsreel loop. The first post war Council election was held in 1946 and this is political advertising mostly based on stock footage and possibly heavily edited for length to meet an advertising budget. During WW2 Brisbane's economy received a major boost from the basing and transit of U.S. and allied troops and the end of the war saw the need to borrow to maintain infrastructure.
My dad owned one of these. It was a very good little car and lovely to drive.
A great singer
Adorable Maureen y John por siempre!!❤❤
10,000 homes in 10 years. Shame they can't do it now isnt it?
It’s a pity our ADF hasn’t that type of leadership anymore
Love this movie!
Rare film.
Truly a fabulous find here for lovers of flying boats! Thanks for posting.
Very cute and gorgeous 😍
Thanks for the feedback - nice to know it is appreciated - such an amazing process!
I had to watch this for my film history class. Good work.

Not surprising, Myrna was a lifetime activist after losing her politician father @ a young age. 1 of the children she's talking about would grow up to become Audrey Hepburn, her wartime experiences moved her to volunteer in Africa for UNESCO.
Thanks very much for the details, Owen. She had an interesting life. Mike
My old man has the life preserver ring from this vessel!
Thank you for this rare film
Nice looking car, and I love those dresses too!
Made by the Shell Film Unit & Chamber of Commerce wa y back in 1957 was 8 ½ years b4 I was born ❗Some of these buildings are still standing today. Geelong is a beautiful city of over a ¼ of a million people.

I haven't head that tune for a long while
the area is now full of town houses and cunningham peir is now a restauant, fords and alcoa are now gone
Cunningham pier is just an eyesore now. Should have been made a marine museum. Some of the original pier is left at rippleside and the slipway is there still
@@gavinmcdonald9967 ripple side is now full off town houses the slip way is gone

“What a well equipped lubritorium.”
Actually this is a combined release of two Film Vodvil shorts. The first 9½ minutes is Film Vodvil Series 1 Number 5 (released on 04-07-1944), and the second part is Film Vodvil Series 2 Number 3 (released on 12-08-1944). This is a two-reel re-release. Two for the price of one. A great find.
Thanks for the interesting information.
0:44 absolute travesty what would be the destruction of architecture on Moorabool St. The street is an eyesore these days, quite a shame.
As with anything else, just a small application of this product is all ya need as a little goes a long way.
The first song is a great example of an early "shuffle" that would later inspire early Rock'n'Roll / Jump Blues - Jan Savitt and Louis Jordan also played this style. Does anyone know the title of the first song? PS: After watching this several times, I noticed the lady in red is a doll, not a person. 😀
Technicolor always amazed me, since it was as much a printing process as it was photographic. The mechanical tolerances must have been very tight. Great quality.
This clip should be shown on TV EVERY NIGHT. In those dark days of WWII Deanna Durbin gave hope to millions. It's what we need now but those in power can't see the light anymore.
It looks a lot like faded Kodacolor prints.
Gee I wish my brakes were as good as that!
not a great song, nor presentation, but she has, to my eyes, one of the more beautiful faces of any era.
I have a 57 Husky, love it
