This was another special day in the forest for me. Most days there are for me, these days. Sorry, I didn`t mean to confuse anyone.
The Barred Owl view

I recorded this owl on 2 separate days. On the second day I made a feeble attempt at trying to get it to call. It didn`t work of course. I was mesmerized by this beautiful bird.

Cohan was a bit worried how the President would react to this show. It was well reviewed in the papers and Roosevelt read them. In truth the show served FDR well. The impression by Cohan was light hearted and entertaining. It also covered up a political liability for FDR. Cohan prancing around and singing was something Roosevelt couldn’t do. FDR was a cripple and very few knew about it, the general public never did until years after his passing. At the time those in the news trade that did know respected him or were scared to death of the power of the White House. (Big difference from modern times, right?). How much of the Cagney movie when Cohan was awarded the CMOH is probably a bit more fiction. All that being said, this movie played great homage to Cohan, Cagney and the real FDR.

I think both Cagney and Cohan would object to being called "Irish Americans." Both of them were 100% American. They were proud of their Irish heritage, but being American came first, last, and always with them.

As opposed, of course, to _The Music Man_ - when Cagney was approached about playing Prof. Hill, he said that not only would he refuse the role, he wouldn't go see the film if they replaced Preston, who'd originated the role on Broadway. I've always thought that quote should have been on the posters...

Mel, I'm such a "maroon" that I've never checked out some of your videos. This one is really great! It's very good ... seamless in it's execution and then ... the quick payoff ... funny stuff! It reminds me of a Buster Keaton or Chaplin short. I'll not reveal who that funnyman is at the end but all I'll say is that "I knew him when ..".
