What Is This and Why Is It In The River Tyne? Van Oord Aeolus
There is an increasing demand for sustainable wind energy in Europe. Van Oord’s marine ingenuity is contributing to innovative solutions for making wind energy more competitive. The advanced offshore installation vessel Aeolus is an excellent example of Van Oord's innovative strength.
The Aeolus, purpose-built to construct offshore wind parks, was put into service in 2014. With a top-range crane the Aeolus can lift more than 1,600 tonnes. This makes the Aeolus suitable for the transport and installation of foundations and wind turbines. It has an advanced jacking system. Four giant legs, each measuring 85 metres and weighing 1280 tonnes, allow Aeolus to be jacked up and work in waters up to 45 metres deep.

Keelmen's Hospital on City Road has been vacant and unused for 15 years. The plan is to convert the Newcastle City Council-owned building into 20 one or two person flats, with the potential for specialist uses, including co-housing, specialist care support and sheltered housing. It is hoped work would start in 2026 once funding of roughly £5,000,000 was raised and for the site to re-open in 2028.

Can you get in?
@@kieraleslie yes if you climb the fence.
Scary stuff
I'm surprised you were able to fly your drone over this facility, with such levels or security? How does aviation law affect what you do? Man traps were mentioned in this presentation, this concerns me. How do they trap the victim? What would be the consequences of trapping trespassers?
I never got to go but I want to go
Hi this is Aeolus a jacking platform which is working on the Dogger bank owf project comes into tyne to collect parts and supplies.
I remember going there as a kid on the 90s. Was the best. There was a video of a group of lads who broke in and videos inside. I remember all of it and am 34 years old. Times going by too fast man. I wish I could have taken my kids there. Got closed because it was too expensive to run apparently
To expensive to run because the heating bill must have been astronomical! I remember going years ago and my over riding memory was the stifling heat in the place which made me feel quite ill.
@@Wishful-Thinking Yeah I remember that.
@@adammac4960 Yeah the heat was really excessive, it took me quite a few day’s to recover and there was a really strong chloride type of smell which stayed in your nose and gave you a head ache for days afterwards. I wonder if H&S got involved which contributed to it getting shut down? 🤔
...O BIJUTERIE TEHNICĂ...
This is a beautiful building. If situated in Newcastle City Centre, Gosforth, or Jesmond, it would have been turned into luxury flats. It used to provide accommodation for student nurses at Newcastle General Hospital. It would make great university accommodation and needs to be rescued.
@@edwinmoreton2136 totally agree with your comments. It is sad to see it deteriorate in this way.
To paraphrase that old nautical saying about gentlemen: Conquistadors don't sail to windward.
She not only sails, she sailed around the WORLD in 2010-2013. This video says she is built of fiberglass - not quite true. She’s built of wood, with a fiberglass cladding. Keeps the barnacles off I guess. The best search term for more information on this ship is "El Galeón Andalucía". Also check the Spanish Wikipedia, again under "Galeón Andalucía".
@@raffriff42 thanks for the info.
Would have been nice to see it under full sail instead of hideous "music" and drone footage. If it needs two engines it is as fake as F.
Imagine what the people would think of that area who set foot on that ship when it was brand new. They would be like, "These are wagons? What kind of wagons don't have horses?" and "Why is this dock up so high?" and "Those buildings. This city is magnificent!"
Drake would have something to say about that ! Mine all mine !!!

You're welcome definitely worth a visit. The place has an eerie feel to it as you walk around.

Thanks for your comment. I read that in the chronicle. I am hoping to get drone footage of the existing one when they blow it up. So keep checking the channel and subscribe.
Good to see the footage, I think you timed that just right.
We used to play on it in the very early sixties, it had a air raid siren on the roof, happy days.
At this point it is beyond repair and worth demolishing which is a shame but is how things go but as for the future redeveloping it into another water park and not houses would be best for the people
Great flight 👍
Страшно на это смотрет ,а там находиться это просто жуть
I worked there from 1995 to 2003 when we were moved to cobalt. At 1:55 was our old IT accomodation. So sad to see this left to ruin.
Impressive shots 👌
Excellent piece of flying - not sure if you captured it separately but the grounds of Featherstone Castle were also used as a WW2 German POW Camp - known as Camp 18. It housed up to 4,000 German officers who were considered to be the worst of the worst, known as 'Black Nazis'.
@steveellwood I got some great footage of Camp 18 which is going to be my next video in a few days. It is a beautiful location. Check out my Facebook page Urbex Drone View to see some of the photos I took.

Needs to be bought back and modernised.
Good riddance. I lived there for six years. It was a nightmare.
Going from my own place which I owned until my ex sold it from under it to that shit hole was depressing to say the least. Full of workshy drunks and drug users.
Cracking video , and subscribed , keep up with progress reports please . I remember when that stockyard was used for exporting coal from local coalmines , then they started importing the coal and 12 years ago they were unloading 225 000 tonnes of coal a week which was taken to the power station in 140 coal trains a week , they were queueing up to load coal as were the ship to unload . At one point there was 13 panamax ships loaded with up to 75 000 tonne on each waiting to come in when the jib on one of those cranes at TBT=Tyne Bulk Terminal- bent like a banana as the bucket got caught on the ship it was unloading a ship.
Brian thanks for the information on the coal terminal. How times have changed the terminal is now being used for Renewable Energy. Definitely keep you updated.
Has it been saved?
I think £5m has been secured for it.
Just incredible!!!
I wonder how many balls have been lost at sea on the car carrier!!! Nice view of the “Eco Titan” prior to loading.
I wonder who has to go and fetch the balls.
Nice video 😊
thank you.
13M looks like a lot of money to end up with this and to take 2 years to do it. More money wasted by the council who are completely untrustworthy from top to bottom.
Cycled past there today on my way to Finchale Abbey
It needs huge investment to change it like ones in US. Where it has huge rotary section. Hopefully not extremely flammable like the one in Sweden , that literally caught fire and exploded!
Hitachi excavators and loaders are made in the Netherlands, and they are sent by ferry to Newcastle. (On the trip back, the ship is full of Komatsu excavators that go to Europe, both Japanese brands manufacture their stuff here)). Then they will be sent to the dealers who prepare and customize them before delivery to construction companies.
Thank you for sharing the information. I have the Komatsu plant in Birtley to explore in the coming weeks.
