    Videoville Villages, Great tool! Oh, and by the way, the comment stuff is still having issues and my last one to you I posted in the comment section of my video called, "My Comment To You Is Here" :) The only thing missing from this tool, and Lemax themselves, is the original MSRP. I don't think Lemax has ever divulged it, but if there was ever a time to do it, it would be now with all the Michaels grossly over inflation of prices over the last few years. We really need some regulation, and also, it would be cool to see what the prices of pieces were back in the day. I'm probably going to utilize this. Now we just need to get Department 56 on board and to update their picture library :) vgv

    • @VideovilleVillages
      @VideovilleVillages Před 4 dny

      Absolutely! I fear the MSRP isn't just a Michael's issue as many UK sites were consistent with their pricing such as the Castle Gala being the equivalent of $229 US, and despite the coupons, or lack of them, people have still picked the shelves clean! I hope they do include it though, along with dimensions, power draw, adapter included etc before one day we get the ultimate website feature - "Virtual Village", a bit like a "Planet Coaster" game (we can all dream right? 🤣) Pete,

    Videoville Villages, A masterclass without feeling like a masterclass, BRILLIANT! Though my approach to Villaging is a bit different, I think its great to see all the nuances out there, there is so much great information here. When I buy pieces, it's mostly online, from a wonderful 3rd party dealer, Ehobbytools, sometimes from an OK resource, City Lights Collectibles, and the granddaddy of them all, ebay, just to name a few. Buying in store is rarely an option for Lemax where I'm at, except at Michaels, and Department 56 you might find the rare piece in some random store, usually Hallmark, so online, though the Fragile thing is the biggest hurtle, is what I'm stuck with. And this season has been pretty horrible getting banged up goods. But staying safe when buying online is key, and doing the research and asking trusted people in the hobby, is the way to go. I can take it or leave it when it comes to theming. Even hodgepodge villages I've seen, if they've been put together with at least some care, I enjoy looking at them. Until recently, I haven't consciously themed a village. My Christmas Village doesn't stick to a single theme at all and my Halloween Village uses the jack of all trades theme, the Amusement Park. This is the easiest theme as far as you can put anything into it. And I do mean, ANYTHING. However, it can tend to be the most expensive theme, as to be a legit Amusement Park (in my opinion), it needs to have rides. Now I guess one could just have one ride piece and just use a backdrop with an Amusement Park scene, but I'm not sure how convincing it would be. In the end, at least for me, Theming is optional. As for Power down cycles, I know it's recommended, but I found it's not necessary on every piece. I've had my Oct-O-Squeeze, since I believe 2007/2008-ish and I don't use the roll switch to power down cycle, I simply cut power to the power switch. In fact, I do this for all my pieces that recommend the power down cycle and have never had an issue in all my years of Villaging, except for one piece that just won't work right unless you do a proper power down, and that's the Rest In Pieces Mausoleum. If you don't power that one down correctly, once it comes back on, it will only go through one animation cycle and then stop. I've never seen proof from Lemax proper that not doing a full power down cycle will harm a piece, just some in the community warning about possible motor burn out, or something like that, but no long lasting demonstration of the fact. Still, it can be wise to listen to the manufacturer, so I won't recommend others do what I do. And speaking of that. I use multi adapters on pretty much EVERYTHING! Now, I'm not going over the 1000mA limit combined, but I have MANY triple setup Sights and Sounds pieces all on the same multi adapter. And again, in ALL THE YEARS I've been Villaging, I've never ran into a single problem, and that's in well over a decade and a half. But AGAIN, I'm not recommending anything Lemax may not, but I'm just speaking about my experience from years doing the hobby. And I thought I'd add one to the list, at least this is my advice to people. Don't be afraid to keep it simple. You can setup one or two pieces and call it a day. Though cool, you don't need snow, landscaping, risers, or a bunch of accessories to have something feel like a village, and more importantly, bring a smile to your face. Though I appreciate GREATLY when people do add these things at times, because it can make a village come alive. Villaging can be as robust or as simple as you like, and like you mentioned in your last item, the most important thing is to Enjoy it. I also recommend not comparing one's village with another's and just make what you want. Trying to outdo the Jones's is the biggest regret/mistake I've made in my Villaging journey. It stopped me buying for years, because I wasn't happy with all the pieces that I bought on impulse that I just did to have what someone else thought was cool, but I myself wasn't sure of. Great video topic and I really enjoyed it! vgv

      @VideovilleVillages Před 11 dny

      Hi ya vgv, Thank you for your great comment and if anyone takes anything away from the video, I hope it's tip 11 that really sticks. I'd truly love to have a Spooky Theme Park one day, but due to the initial outlay, it would probably take me quite a few years to piece it all together. Whilst building that inventory, I'd still display the pieces, but separately as a standalone "display" rather than classing that a "village" if you take my meaning. With the multi adapters - Have i ever run differently to advised? Noooo never 😏😮‍💨😮‍💨🤣, I just wanted to bring peoples attention to the fact the are rated upto a 1000mah and not to over load them. I probably build in about 10% tolerance should something surge and god forbid something did go wrong, they will be back to me saying "you said..." - prevention is better than cure. Keep up the great work on your channel too, hopefully your comments issue is now resolved and Berserk was an awesome game!! One of my faves on the 2600, along with River Raid. Stay wiggly 😉

The logo is perhaps more fitting to my earlier range of buildings made. Whilst they look in keeping with Lemax, the internal scenes are HD video, so with buildings such as the Cabin and Tudor House, you can have your own family, fully animated within your village. Videoville Villages, Ah, the Grimsly Manor... The first village piece I ever purchased... AND... The one that almost stopped my foray into Villaging. On my second trip to Las Vegas, 2000 I believe, I stumbled across a store in a mall (inside the Aladdin Hotel And Casino on the Strip) called Department 56. It was an absolute WONDERLAND of Halloween and Christmas, with AMAZING village displays that excited me at every turn. I was instantly hooked on the idea of somehow building something similar in my home, allowing me to experience this kind of magic anytime. The only thing holding me back were the exorbitant prices. I couldn't believe what they were charging for everything! It took me a couple more visits back to Vegas, before I finally broke down and bought my first piece. The centerpiece of one of the largest villages Department 56 had on display... The Grimsly Manor. I was SO EXCITED to finally get it, because I was mostly drawn in by it's lightning effects (something to this day I look for in other village pieces), and I paid $110 at the time (which I still cringe at when I think of it). It seemed like the perfect piece to start out with as everything seemed to draw attention to it in Department 56's fantastical arrangement. I got it home, and instantly disappointment set in. I thought, is this just something you'd put over a candle? It had nothing inside of it, completely hollow. And those cool lightning effects? I guess they tricked my eye in the store, but when I turned it on at home, seeing the lightning come from inside of the house, didn't look right to me. And the sound effects? Though cool at first, were WAY TOO LOUD and I had to get creative with taping cotton over the speaker to dampen the sound. Never got it to sound quite right. And the look of the building itself? Just blah. All of the sudden, this piece didn't feel like Halloween. It just looked like an old house. And the bright paint job took away from the creep factor, which somehow felt different in the store. I then realized that the only reason this piece looked so cool in the store, and really felt like Halloween, was due to all the OTHER real Halloween pieces around it! I felt in a way, scammed. Now, I did buy one other Department 56 Haunted Barn piece the year after (I don't think it's part of the snow village collection), because it better represented the holiday I so loved, but I pretty much made my mind up at that point, that Villaging wasn't going to be my thing. I felt it was an overpriced hobby for what you got. That was until... My mom decided to give me an early Halloween gift one year, a new village piece. She said she got it at a store called Michaels and thought I might like it. That piece ended up being, The Mortis Theater. And that piece, even to this day, might just be my favorite village piece of all time! I went down to Michaels as my Mom said there were even more pieces available, and this is where I discovered a new magical Halloween world, the world of Lemax! Lemax, to me, looked leaps and bounds better than Department 56, better designs and animated parts, and the excitement of Villaging flooded back to me! I looked at the prices, which were steep, but not as high as Department 56, but my mom said to ignore them, as when she went to pay for The Mortis Theater, it rang up at 80% off! So I thought I'd take a gamble and put a bunch of pieces in a cart, including favorites Frankenstein's Laboratory and the Cursed Tomb, and sure enough... 80% OFF! And this is how it was for MANY YEARS at Michaels. When they'd put Spooky Town on display, day one, everything would be automatically 60% (no coupons necessary), and then when October hit, everything would be marked down further to 80% off! Amazing times! But as most of us know now, Michaels isn't a consumer forward company any longer. For the past several years, they've overinflated Spooky Town prices, and after you use the coupons they offer, it makes you feel like you're now paying the real full retail price, if not a bit more. The coupons mean nothing as you're no longer getting an actual discount. And with the HORRIBLE bait and switch coupon tactics Michaels used this year, this may be my last year I shop with them and wait until their exclusives become part of the regular line the year following. Suffice it to say, Lemax saved the Villaging hobby for me. And I love having year round villages as part of my Home Arcade, so I can enjoy them anytime I want, both Christmas and Halloween. I actually just opened up a new extension to the Halloween theme park area that I'm hoping to make a video for it at some point. I've added 21 new pieces and it's absolutely SPECTACULAR! I did remove one piece, because it unfortunately died, Department 56's Monsters of the Deep 😥, but that's how it goes sometimes. But that space now houses a piece I think Grimsly Manor should've been all along. ENTER: Lemax's Gothic Haunted Mansion! Talk about a Unicorn piece, this one is it! Amazing sights and sounds (with a volume control) and the lightning effect is actually done properly, on the outside of the house. If you've never seen this piece, I can't recommend enough checking it out! There are thankfully a few videos out there. Grimsly Manor is a grail for many a collector and I'm glad you got one. It was my first foray into Villaging, and though it almost killed my aspirations before they started, it's not a horrible piece. It just not Halloween enough for me and doesn't spark wonder unless you put a bunch of other Halloween pieces around it. Thanks for another great video and take care! vgv

      Hi ya vgv, I recorded the footage at around 11PM the other night and with how loud that box is, I thought any minute now I'm going to get a visit from either my wife or son to find out who's screaming lol - I even checked the volume and it was apparently on "low" haha. That's a video I need to see! If my numbers come up in the lottery, 💯 I would have a Lemax haunted theme park - Fright night every day of the week! And the new Pumpkin Motel they have just released, there'd be a few of them as the park resort lodgings (I can hear my wallet calling me to stop the pain as my mind runs away with the idea 🤣). I only saw the Gothic Mansion for the first time a couple of months back and it was part of a bigger display, but the lighting caught my eye and I was like whoa what was that?! I think i'm just a sucka for lightning effects lol. I'm on the lookout for one, but being across the pond, It's a case of either the house is priced reasonably but the shipping is ridiculous or the other way around 😔. Ebay are not helping with their International postage fees because they are double the cost of what it actually is to send, if you do it via the post office. Fingers crossed for you that those 40% coupons start circulating. It's still early days since they stocked their shelves with Spooky Town and if everyone holds their nerve and waits for the sales, I'm sure they'll come. Keep well and I can not wait to see that vid! Oh wow, you must have an absolutely incredible display! I'd love to see it. As for the quality... I believe they are still trying to make them affordable. When you have SRP and 20 or 40% coupons virtually day one of release, it does raise an eyebrow of the integrity of the SRP. Is it really $100 say? Or was it always intended to be $60 but it's marketing to make you feel like you got more bang for your buck? And the retailer is still profiting at that price. Sometimes though it does feel like they are relying heavily on brand loyalty and Lemax should count themselves very lucky that they have an absolutely fantastic fan base. It's an interesting question actually as to why we do 🤔

I’ve always wanted the Black Mountain Coal Mine, which is a piece many don’t even know existed, but now goes for over $1000. Videoville Villages, Yeah, I remember walking into Michaels and picking up the Oct-o-squeeze for around $30 on a sale and it's crazy how much it's gone up in price. But maybe not, as it's one of the favorite pieces I own. I also own Hemlocks and that was another discount Michaels purchase. There are a couple that I've seen that are prohibitively expensive that I don't think I'll ever own. Black Castle is one I actually wanted but I've never seen one under a grand and usually around $2000 most of the time. And then there's Chuckles Funhouse. One I've never see under $2,000 on Ebay and have even seen one north of $4,000. They don't come up often, but this seems the norm now. Surprised at a couple on this list, but Lemax and Department 56 are highly collectible right now (and for some years, of course) and sometimes you get lucky. Have a great one! vgv

    • @videogamevegas

      Videoville Villages, Yeah, those were the good old days. When I first started collecting Lemax, for years, you'd walk into a Michaels store as soon as they put the Lemax collection out and everything was automatically discounted at 60% off, no coupons necessary. Then as the season neared it's end, everything left over was 80% off. Nowadays you have to jump through so many hoops to find the best deals and companies continue to throw the consumer rotten curves. Case in point. Last week Michaels finally put up a preview of all their Lemax Halloween pieces on their site. Two of the pieces, the Phantom Castle (which thankfully I picked up instead from a 3rd party for much cheaper), and one of their exclusives that I want, the Smoke and Mirrors Magic Shop (which I think is going to be one of those rare sought after pieces in the future, because of it's amazing bevy of illusions with an all new AMAZING special effect), are both $200 a piece! Seriously?! These have to be the MOST EXPENSIVE MSRP prices to date! And here's where the curve comes in. So Michaels puts up all these new products, which you can't buy until the 28th of this month, but gave some great hope in the form of a coupon. Below each of the products they listed a 40% off coupon code! That's a pretty decent deal in today's climate! But like I said, here's the curve. I get on their site this morning and they change the coupon code to a 20% off code! WHAT?! Luckily I saved the 40% off code and decided to see if it still worked. I put something in my cart, other than the Lemax stuff of course, because they don't allow you to buy them until June 28th, and tried the 40% off code. SURPRISE, SURPRISE, the code no longer works! What a cruddy thing to do at the last minute, but they've done this type of thing before. Suffice it to say, out of the 7 items I was going to pick up on June 28th from Michaels, I'm now only going to pick up 3. But there is a light. What I did last year when Michaels pulled this same stunt, was to buy everything with the smaller coupon code, because Lemax items seem to sell out fast nowadays, and then hold onto them. Then when a better coupon comes out, I'll return the pieces that are still available at Michaels for a refund and reorder them using the better coupon. I hate that companies pull these slimy tactics and consumers have to play games to get the best deal, but that's where we're at unfortunately. Playing games stinks. I need to make a quick correction from my last comment. I thought I had the Hemlocks Lemax piece, but I actually have Grimsly's Greenhouse. It's very similar to Hemlocks, but I vaguely remember skipping out on Hemlocks, because of the similarities. I actually like Grimsly's Greenhouse better :) Hope you're keeping well as well and here's to a great Halloween and Christmas Villaging season! vgv

      I did read that Michaels code coupon fiasco online the day. It does make you feel like you are being played a bit at times when someone offers you a price and then halves it a few months later. It's not too dissimilar in the UK - prices can fluctuate wildly between retailers and if you can hold your nerve for sale prices nearer the holiday, you can get some fantastic savings, but you have to be on it, checking 10 or 12 retailers daily, if not twice a day. Sadly we don't have anyone like gift spice offering us huge free buildings tho for orders over a certain amount

      @giannis6552 Před měsícem

      @VideovilleVillages what I like about this piece is that it combines some part of real life with borderline spookiness. Some questions arise when you look at it. Is it haunted? Is it just an old inhabited house where there might be some crime taking place? Is it just a hallucination of the viewer? Generally, I am trying to create a borderline spooky town, meaning that nobody could answer for sure whether the town is haunted or it is just an "ordinary" town where the inhabitants are not conforming to the standards of inhabitants we are used to. I also like to incorporate some humorous and optimistic elements, especially those that defy the physical laws of life and happiness. For example, adding dancing skeletons in a graveyard.
