Gola buenas saludos desde España prodria hacer un video de la condiguracion para oro en playa gracias i enhorabuena por su canal
My ctg has a black line down the screen,it still works, I was wondering where you get the replacement screen from (uk) thanks
Yes, that is the start of screen failing. Sometimes just cleaning the flexible cable contacts with alcohol can cure problem. The screens I have got from ebay / aliexpress, cost is around 50 euro. If you dont feel confident in doing this yourself, the minelab service agent MSR chargers about £150.
@@SandyToesDetecting I got black lines again. I'm on my 3rd screen replacement now since 2013. what I'm understanding is. They dont like heat. All gone in the summer and all during a heatwave, left in the car was my first, out in a field on a summers day second and admittedly left in the car again this last week (i'm a fool) thanks for the video I Wont be spending £150 again this time. p.s would you happen to know if there are different models to the screen replacement? i..e lcd v backlit on earlier models of ctx? will try cleaning ribbon cable first but the screen has got a bluey tone to it so guessing the cystal fluid has breached
@@flipper8652 You are not having much luck on screens. LCD's are very temperature sensitive, hot / cold can kill them. I think all the CTX screens are EL (electro luminous) backlit, ie a piece of plastic that glows when correct voltage applied, typically 100 V with a 400 hz or so frequency. I have always been very careful with any detector to ovoid direct sun whilst in transport and never left in hot or very cold car. The other problem with CTX as I found out to my cost a year or so back is that it took me ages to park as beach was very busy and though the detector was in case it got very hot, then I went into sea and the air inside the head unit contract quickly dragging in sea water inside it through the air pressure relief valve (behind the speaker), I think I did a video on that a while ago. A lot of detectors have these valves. The equinox series do and caused a lot of leaks on early versions. My Deus has one. Etc. Good luck
@@SandyToesDetecting thanks for the heads up. Will check your other videos 👍
Great work and ready for another few years of service, can’t believe where that sand gets 🤣👍
I was surprised as well. Also how heavy it was compared to my detectors now :-) It did feel a bit vintage.

thanks,
Great to finally be finding again, I know its early days but how do you rate the Deus II against the Minelabs?
Thanks. That is very difficult to tell at this stage, it's a bit like comparing an automatic car to manual. Both achieve similar results in completely different ways. I like the Deus ii. lighter, more detail sounds, a bit more fiddly to set up mechanically with antenna, the menu system is complex Great warranty. Able to do areas the minelab struggles with. I am going to try it over the summer and decide if its a keeper or not.
@@SandyToesDetecting I was about to ask the same question. I'm interested to see your answer next fall as well. But for now, I'm not giving up my CTX. Thank You. 🤓
@@wingrovedl The CTX is a great detector. I think it's one of the best. For me the water ingress problems were an issue. I like to think the minelab will release a CTX4040, the manticore is good but 3030 is better in many ways. It just needs a good update, lighter, better charging solution and stop water getting in. I will be doing videos if I keep finding. thanks
@@SandyToesDetecting I'll be watching with interest on that one thanks 👍
@@ThePhilandPam I think I have all the settings correct. It's now understanding everything and how it responds to me. (or I it :-) )
Great video of the repairs. Check out this vacuum kit for the CTX battery. I have used it for at least 2 years in heavy surf with no problems. czcams.com/video/ShnkZxaN_F4/video.html There is a O-ring under that back speaker and with that rust the seal may be compromised.
What is tid for gold nugget

Hi, I need to repair my ctx3030. The problem is a component resistor/capacitor smd but I don't know the code or value . The place of this component is L401. Do you have a diagram circuit? I ' ll try to put the pic of it
sorry never been able to obtain schematics.

Вибачте, я не розумію запитання. Ваш CTX зламався. ?
@@SandyToesDetecting good evening, I asked if there are spare boards for the stх block in your country and at what price they are, mine broke last week
@@stepanstepan6827 Only the official minelab device centres have boards unless someone is breaking a detector down for spares. There was a detector in bits I think from Ukraine about 1 month ago on ebay. The service centre prices are very high for parts. There are centres in France, Germany & UK,
@@SandyToesDetectingthanks) and there, if you do it yourself, the repair will cost $10, but I am interested in the most reliable option..
@@stepanstepan6827 Which circuit board are you after ?
Great video! My Ex II literally fell apart at 10 years. Minelab wanted over $500 to replace the cables. I used marine silicone to create a new wire sheath and that's how it sits for now. Now my other Minelab Xterra 305 is falling apart. Same problem. Some external compression connectors would solve all this headache. This company doesn't improve products so I will be going elsewhere.
Thanks. Good idea about the marine silicon. I am not sure other manufacturers are much better, I have had to repair cables from nokta, garrett etc etc.
Excellent video that keeps on giving! Where can I buy a kit that contains all the seals and end cap seals? You call it heat shrink here
Unfortunately there is no sea. kits available. I purchased the seals off a seal company based I think is EU, the heatcshiring sleeve think in china off ebay.
Its ok, those pieces are worth the scenery for me and Im certain your audience in cooler states and the world 😊
The scenery can be very nice at times.
Hi, what paint did you use painting the coil?
You can either use standard gloss point or I also use a rubber paint coating which can be removed it needed, that is called plas t dip
@@SandyToesDetecting Thank's

F**k all these repairs. I'm urging everyone to STOP buying ALL Minelab products until they acknowledge that they compromised on quality, that they have fired the people who urged the lack of quality, and that they will never again make such outrageously cheap products. My SECOND coil's ears just simply fell apart into pieces.
My first coil ears on the 800 broke after 6 months of use. Was on warranty. Now my second coil ears simply broke into pieces. Out of warranty. DO NOT BUY MINELAB PRODUCTS, THEY ARE S**T.
Thankfully the new detectors from minelab have stronger tabs.

Hi catching up on your vids. How you getting on with the 900 compared to your other detectors. I’m laid up with health issues so good to watch others like you out there. HH. Mal
Hi Mal, sorry to hear your are not feeling too good. This was my first outing with eq900 last saturday, I used it 3 extra times since. So so far 3 times in the water once on the sand. On the sand it is a coin magnet. In water I had it in all tone, I am not sure that setting is for me as I have my 3030 set to ferrous bands, with all the good stuff in high tones. (around the 12 mark). It appears deeper in water than my 3030 but also all tone does not screen to me dig targets with low ID numbers, so half way through hunt today I changed it to 2 tone. As I am in water I rarely can see screen unless very shallow. 2 tone immediately was an improvement and found a stainless ring that I would have passed due to low tone. It is a light detector, screen could be bigger also manual could be expanded upon for target bands. I like it. I had considered the manticore but discounted that as a friend has been using one for couple of months and not sure it gives extra value for the €1k. I plant to uses eq900 for a few weeks then go back to ctx3030 and make a comparison. Need to get a few more hunts in first. Keep smiling.
Do eq900 losing connection with earphones when You put controlbox under water??
yes, bluetooth does not work underwater, I have wired headphones for that reason (and these are waterproof)
Nice to see you again in the water! And the CTX?...You change for a new Nox? Better?... Regards.
I still have the CTX3030 & the excalibur. I wanted to see if newer technology is better. It is lighter, easier to set up. This was first time use of eq900, so I would like to try it a few times and then go back to ctx to do a comparison.
Hope you like the new Nox. I am now using the little brother, XTerra Pro. And in the water I have already had 10 pieces of gold since the end of March. If I owe this passion to someone, it is thanks to your videos. From the first day I saw you I thought... that's for me. Thanks.

wow amazing my friend, very good video to watch my friend.👍🤝🇮🇩🔔👈
Thanks
Thanks for this video. I didn't know the 3030 had a pressure release valve, but it makes sense. Reminds me of an old gas mask part! Hopefully, this won't be an issue with my detector, but I will sure remember the symptoms yours had. I am sure your sneak trick will work.
I had forgotten it had one until the other day and was puzzling over the water ingress issue. Looking at the valve (there re 2 on 3030) it had obvious damage, no idea how. I used a very small pin head drop of clear 2K varnish (this is top clear coat on cars). I have managed to source a membrane fabric off internet that hopefully will come next week and will use that to add an additional coat to protect the seal. As for symptoms , keep a close eye for any moisture inside the display.
Hopefully that membrane is where it's getting in, how do you think it was damaged, impact maybe?
Not sure it’s under a cover. Maybe the detector got over hot and combined with it cooling rapidly in water caused it to burst. Trying to source a membrane, so far only a whole back case from minelab. I have found manufacturers of membrane but no sellers. I have a sneaky plan to fix if all else fails.
@@SandyToesDetecting look forward to your sneaky plan but if it involves superglue, make sure it's the sort that is ok in water, some isn't and dissolves!
Well as sneaky plans go. I did try to source some 10mm membrane disks, so far no good. Minelab will sell me back cover for about 200 euros plus shipping. I did think about superglue but a tiny drop of clear 2K varnish (car top coat) where hole is. I have also ordered up a sheet of sample fabric of various grades from firm in Denmark, plan is then to put that in recess covering exist membrane.
These are excellent videos. I was wondering where to find the amphenol part numbers for that socket, and the corresponding headphone jack. If you can say, what are they? That is very useful information. Thanks for this, and the videos!
I got them from electronics supplier, TME in EU but rs components / farnell etc elsewhere
@@SandyToesDetecting Thanks for the quick reply! Did you just mention the ctx 3030 and they knew which part?
@@richardervin9970 No, they all stocks millions of part numbers, its a case of going through the catalog and choosing correct.
@@SandyToesDetecting Ahhh. That's what I figured! The old fashioned way. I have been doing that for years but was hoping to find a clever way out. I will hit the catalog. I have worked on electronics for almost 60 years, but learning lots of new things with the CTX 3030. Thanks again and please keep the maintenance videos coming.
Where can you get the housing screws ?
If you speak to minelab service centre they can supply them. If you have the black screws there is a service alert to change them to stainless free of charge.
The "Ocean's Drain Plug" , now we don't have to worry about the ocean rising. Thank You !
Weird :-) Strange old hobby we have
Really enjoyed that, brings it all back 😎👍
thanks, hopefully to follow soon.
Question for you do you like the video shots when camera goes underwater ?
@@SandyToesDetecting Actually love the underwater shots, really adds to the video, used to love the fish following me around 😎
@@ThePhilandPam ok, will try to add more visibility permitting. thanks
Hey mate, Would you make a video , if time permits on your CTX 3030 settings ? Like the headphones, you use, how do you set up to only hear via headphones ? And what settings are metal detecting on the CTX? ( are you only on beach mode ) ? Do you use beach mode on lakes ( none salty water ) ?. That might help people like me that need proper settings .
Thanks for suggestions, will try to get round to do that. A couple of answers, I use a pair of custom made headphones which are semi waterproof. The program I use again is a custom one which took me a long time to develop but it's mainly fully open except big iron & bottle tops. I have it set to ferrous bands so all the good stuff sounds great at around the middle of screen. Unfortunately no lakes near me, would love to do some.
