Your Z axis is not a strong enough beam member. It should be steel Square Tubing or something that will be really sturdy... Large in size. Else you will never get high tolerance's. And or speed without vibrations and you will have to take really light cuts. I am a machinist by the way. By the way your choice of music is really disturbing and annoying. You should change it.

I have a 1993 avenger lathe with the same motors and drives ( simodrive 611) Are you running the drives open loop with just the +/- 10 volts and closing the loop by interfacing the encoders in Mach 4? I am planning to use a Centroid Oak to retrofit my lathe.
