I was at an auto wrecking yard when a sudden downpour occurred . I jumped into the nearest car to get out of the rain. On the back seat was a half eaten hamburger with a two foot tall tomato plant growing out of it. Tomatoes grow like weeds.

yes i cut one slice and put in a container of dirt in plastic fruit containers. its makes a tiny greenhouse and i hot 20 tomatoes from one slice. i had to give 10 of them away.

I do something similar. I slice a tomato at the end of the season and place a slice on a coffee filter. I mark the name and let them dry out. In the spring I set the filter in the ground lightly cover with dirt. Sometimes I cut the filter in half or 4 pieces, depending on how many plants I want. Then thin out the weak plants. So easy and never fails.

Think you needed to submerge the filters for 24hrs first maybe.?

Make sure to use tomatoes that are not store bought. Do not try to grow tomatoes from store bought tomatoes.

Really, added Butter? Cooked on a gas range? Not quite the Survival Scenario. Since you liked the two that you tested with the added Butter, guess they all are good. NOT!!! Unfortunately there are no "professional" reviewers. And just what about Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa who are Diabetic and can't eat these because they have so much Carbohydrates (Sugar) and Sodium (Salt)? That's ok, like you said, they are all good...

What kind of stones does it have? Are they limestone?

I saw some recipes calling for a cup of salt. Don't think that would be such a good idea because salt can leach into the areas where you want plants to grow and may make those areas uninhabitable for any plants.

Yes this works on the light stuff and for follow-up to keep an area clear, but if you want to nuke an era for the spring-summer, nothing is going beat roundup (aka Glyphosate). I would suggest hitting an area with roundup first, then use DIY weed killer as follow-up when anything new starts to appear and before the weeds have a chance to get any roots. Most DIY formulas tend not to kill the roots, so the weeds only disappear for a short period before coming back.
