Roller Shutters or shutter tonneau covers have become a popular option for just about all the different types of Dual Cab Utes and Pickups on Australian roads. The Ford Ranger seems to be the most popular based on requests for diagnostic information and wiring diagrams to install electric roller shutters.
The roller shutters on the current model Ranger are a Ford Licensed Accessory by Mountain Top, which is a Danish company that has research and development facilities in Denmark and Australia, and factories around the world. This product is backed by Ford Warranty and has a model name of Mountain Tops EVOe Electric Roll Cover.
These systems seem to be reliable if cleaned and maintained correctly. Many operational issues seem to be solved by performing the initilasation procedure. If other problems arise, the factory roller shutter system will integrate with the vehicle’s diagnostic system and provide codes to assist in repairs.
Retro Fitting Roller Shutters
Electric roller shutters have only been an option on the Wild Trak and Platinum trim levels. It seems that some customers are buying a second-hand tub with a roller shutter from one of these higher-spec models and asking our VACC MotorTech subscribers to fit them to a lower-spec Ranger.
The hardware will fit ok. However, these lower-spec vehicles will not have the switches, control unit or wiring harness fitted for roller shutter assembly.
