If you play power chords with your pinky then it makes it harder to play big 5 chords like 0/7/9/9/12/12. And you may be thinking, death metal never uses those. Well, you could use that same fingering to do all kinds of tricks that are appropriate for death metal. You do you, there is no wrong way unless you are using noodles for string and a dead fish for a pick. String have to be made of metal for the pickup to magnetize the sound and dead fish rot quickly and you'll just have a hand full of mush. But in my experience it seems like you will be limiting yourself down the line. Nice cover btw. Was trying to figure out the intro with the harmonics and because of this video I see where I was going wrong.
