In regards to your post reaction blouse ...Seinfeld lol 😂 What I love about Tarantino movies, outside of how he tells a story, is it's a story you've never heard before or it's a slight alternative to story you have heard before. Either way, he's a MASTER story teller.

The three men being shot on the side of the road were most likely SS men. The SS ran the camps, they were the men, who committed the war crimes and atrocities throughout Germany, from the massacres of Russian towns, French Towns, Pows, to even their own citizens towards the very end of the war. If those soldiers did not start out as psychopaths, the vast majority ended up as such by the end of the war because of what they were encouraged, and told to, and had done. No one took SS prisoners til after the fall of Germany where they were rounded up and sent to war crimes tribunals.

Your "Spidey Senses are tingling" moment? They noticed the sounds of wildlife had stopped. When the wildlife goes quiet, something *bad* is in the area. In this case, the smell of death from the camp was so strong it scared all the wildlife away. Both in the show and in real life, from what they surviving members of Easy Company reported.

Greek Mythology (and many other mythologies) are vast. They have been created over millenia. The Harry Potter world doesn't hold a candle to the amount of Greek Mythology there is. It is nearly impossible to "show not tell" without some amount of exposition to the modern audience. Unless you're a Greek person from 2 millenia or more ago, you're going to have to be explained stuff. Not to mention, Percy hasn't grown up as a demigod. Of course he needs to be told things. Without Encyclopedia Grover, we'd be as lost as Ogigia! (Yeah, you didn't get that reference. Guess why! Also, don't look it up. Spoiler warning).

I really love the interaction scene with Perconte and O'Keefe. As a Vet myself I think it does a great job showing both sides of the argument without saying either man is right or wrong. O'Keefe wants to do his duty, he wants to do what he trained and suffered for, and most of all wants to feel like and know he contributed to the war and Allied victory. I saw a bit of action but nothing like what the guys before me did in the earlier years of the war so I understand his feelings. Surrounded by all these guys that endured and fought through the worst of it; Normandy, Holland, The Ardennes. It's very easy to feel like you didn't do anything at all if you weren't in the big stuff. But I also get where Perconte comes from. He *has* seen the worst of it. Seen his friends and comrades shot and mangled by explosions, endured hardships of awful weather and minimal food. Hell he's been shot too. To him someone openly wanting to experience that probably seems naive and stupid at best and outright offensive at worst. It's a short scene but I absolutely love it.

  • @randomlyentertaining8287

I say it on pretty much every episode 7 reaction so I'll keep it short. Dyke was not a coward nor a bad officer. He just wasn't the guy to lead Easy Company. Also, he'd been awarded for bravery during Market Garden. He froze up on the attack on Foy because he'd be shot twice and was going into shock.

  • @randomlyentertaining8287

You mentioned the music at the beginning. The fact that it was Beethoven and not Mozart is important. Beethoven was German while Mozart was Austrian. Hitler was not actually German. He was Austrian. Focus was put on Nixon's deteriorating situation to help add more power to the later camp scene. A reminder that no matter how bad you think your life is going, it can be a lot LOT worse for someone else. The men that executed the three Germans as the Americans drove by were French. That should explain why they were executing any Germans they could find. An...interesting note. Before the camps became the primary means of extermination, the Germans would often just round up Jews as they advanced and execute them by firing squad. After a while, it was found that the men tasked with this would develop symptoms of PTSD far quicker than normal. Turns out, even if you consciously tell yourself it's justified, the human brain is not naturally wired to accept murdering hundreds of innocent people. Also, remember that when you hear news of the conflict between Israel and Hamas that Hamas would love nothing more than to recreate exactly what the Nazis did. Several of the people that died during the October 7th attacks were Holocaust survivors. Just think on that when you hear people defending the acts that Hamas does as "not occurring in a vacuum".

What baffles me the most about this, is that the real events happened only a mere 80 years ago... That's basically yesterday! Yet, the people and generations of today don't seem to realize what the human kind is capable to do to one another and go on with their petty lives as if it never happened. Some even go as far as pretending it was all exaggerated and not true. They play video games about it, watch movies about it, but somehow blocked out the reality of what happened in those camps. This really happened, and nobody saw it while it was happening until the war was over. Meanwhile, the world is dangerously veering towards another world war that could be even worse than WWII, and could involve our kids or even ourselves. We're this close... Just think about it, look around and see what's going on in the world, the wars, the growing division, the tension rising between powerful countries, the rise of Islam, the massive illegal immigration everywhere... etc... I don't know why, maybe I'm just paranoid, but I feel like we're not taking the signs and warnings seriously enough. This could very well happen again!

My uncle who fought in WWII never mentioned the atrocities of what the nazis did but he would become so angry, so furious when he heard people say the Holocaust was all a farce, it didn't happen. Until one day he told us what he saw and he remembered just like if it was like yesterday the faces of those imprisoned by the nazis because of who they were. My uncle saw the evilness inflicted upon these human beings. He saw the empty shells of those who were once full of life. He remembered the smell and the gloominess. But strangely he never blamed the German soldier, the grunt because they were only following orders but he blamed those who were in command for murdering innocent men, women and children.

You haven't taken to account that The Dutch were brutally stomped on by the Germans for 5 long years. Some of the Dutch mingled with their occupiers and gained favor for it while the rest of the nation suffered immensely. By the time they were liberated Men and women alike were extremely resentful to who cooperated in any way shape or form. The show did a great job showing that resentment unleashed. Men were executed. Women were scolded and shamed. Some of these men and women did no wrong. Women who were assaulted by the Germans got pregnant and scolded for it. That's the reality of war. People hurt, people lash out. It is human nature, and by no means is it humane at times of war.

I think the section of the book, concerning this camp, is worth quoting here: The company stayed in Buchloe for two nights. Thus it was present in the morning when the people of Landsberg turned out, carrying rakes, brooms, shovels, and marched off to the camp. General Taylor, it turned out, had been so incensed by the sight that he had declared martial law and ordered everyone from fourteen to eighty years of age to be rounded up and sent to the camp, to bury the bodies and clean up the place. That evening the crew came back down the road from the camp. Some were still vomiting. "The memory of starved, dazed men," Winters wrote, 'who dropped their eyes and heads when we looked at them through the chain-link fence, in the same manner that a beaten, mistreated dog would cringe, leaves feelings that cannot be described and will never be forgotten. The impact of seeing those people behind that fence left me saying, only to myself, 'Now I know why I am here!'"

What I find most sickening about this, is the fact that deniers of this atrocity exist to this day.

Another neat detail is that aside from Isildur, Frodo, Gollum, and briefly Sam, Boromir is the only other mortal being to physically touch the One Ring in the whole trilogy in the story in the present. Everyone else who is tested by it and does not fall to the temptation chooses not to make physical contact with it - Gandalf only moves it with the fireplace tongs, Galadriel reaches towards it but pulls away, and Aragorn closes Frodo's own fingers around it instead of touching it himself. Everyone who touches the Ring eventually ends up permanently changed by it, either being fully consumed like Gollum, falling then repenting like Boromir, or carrying a permanent wound on their soul that can only be fully healed by forsaking Middle-earth and traveling to the Undying Lands, as happens with Frodo (and Sam in the books). It's not the physical touch of the Ring that does the corrupting, of course, but it's a neat bit of subtle visual representation of the Ring's literally soul-destroying corruption that NOTHING in all of creation can come into contact with and remain unchanged. Except of course for Tom Bombadil, and therefore possibly Goldberry, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms haha

Loving your reaction to BoB.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Forgive the lengthyness of my post, but please read. No acknowledgment is required. Excerpt from: Silence in the Storm: The New York Times' Coverage of the Holocaust During WWII BY RAY TYLER SEPTEMBER 21, 2021 ... there is bias in the stories that newspapers choose to print, and twenty-four-hour news programs decide to broadcast. The New York Times, which began publishing in 1851, is regarded as one of the world’s best newspapers. Its reputation for reliable, comprehensive coverage was secure by the early 1940s. The paper was well-positioned to uncover and report the Holocaust. Yet, as Laura Leff points out in her book, Buried By The Times: The Holocaust and America’s Most Important Newspaper total coverage mattered less than the placement of the news and the frequency of stories about the Holocaust. Although the Times published nearly 1200 stories on the Holocaust during WWII, only 26 made front-page news, and many of those failed to report the targeting of Jews by the Nazi regime. A case in point is the New York Times coverage of Adolph Hitler’s so-called Final Solution - the plan to exterminate all Jews living in Europe. According to Journalism Professor Laura Leff of Northeastern University, “No American newspaper was better positioned to highlight the Holocaust than the Times, and no American newspaper so influenced public discourse by its failure to do so.” Editors may have felt they were simply following then President Roosevelt's (D) administration’s lead as they failed to emphasize the war’s impact on Jews. This led to a lack of credibility of the reports of Jewish extermination. The paper and their editors may have also felt that singling out the Jews as a target for extermination may not have had enough relative importance compared to the overall story of the war. Their foreign correspondents, including 30 reporters stationed in Europe, were well-positioned to uncover and report the Holocaust. Why didn't they? Could a single newspaper, even one as influential as the Times, have shifted public opinion about the Holocaust sufficiently to impact the government’s response to the Holocaust? We will never know, but the fact remains they chose not to try.... Sadly, they were not the only ones. Presently, they have denied the atrocities of October 7th as it relates to Israel vs. Hamas.

You're a lovely woman Jacqui, I'd like to say that this kind of behavior is a thing of the past but when I was in the military I did a tour in the Balkans, in Bosnia and there was ethnic cleansing going on there and massed graves as well we found several when we were there. It's a hard thing to experience.

This series is easily one of the best HBO has ever produced. But it has its errors, for sure. Norman Dike was not liked well by Easy Company surviving veterans, especially Winters and Nixon, and he certainly had his shortfalls; but, he was a decorated combat officer by the men's time in the Bois Jacques. He was awarded a bronze star for valor ten days prior to the assault on Foy, and subsequently awarded two purple hearts after. Stephen Ambrose relied heavily on veteran interviews, autobiographies, and first hand sources while not fully heading full investigative research into military records when writing the titular novel. Another example is the show (and book)'s representation of Blythe who had actually survived the war and remained in the military through Korea.
