This 15-minute documentary produced by DCMM in 2000 details the important shipbuilding role of Sturgeon Bay during the years of World War 2. The film contains interviews with several shipyard workers, including some of the many women welders who stepped into the roles traditionally held by men. Many thanks to the Door County Library for digitization!

Very nicely done lecture I have to finish it later which I will but great job Jordan I’ll text you my critique lol!
Outstanding presentation
This is not really worthy of a recorded lecture considering all the rich historiography of the Lakes
If you'd take time to watch the video rather than make a kneejerk reaction, you'd realize that this a more skeptical and critical look at Great Lakes phenomenon and is a historiography of said phenomenon using actual sources.
I find this history far more interesting than silly stories about U-boats that never existed in magical stone obelisk powering spooky phenomenon.
So cool thanks so much
In answer to Brian's question, I'm Brian and I am a descendent with both Mary and Dan being by great, great, great grandparents. I also have massive hands.
Best rig I ever used in my Navy diving career.
Awesome, they make good expedition vehicles.
Thank you so much for sharing this online!

This man is a legend. I wish I could have grown up with him
Dove this rig for three years as a water survival instructor at Pensacola Naval Training Center's Helicopter fuselage emergency egress pool. Loved this rig - no comms. :)
Awesome video! I also would like an opinion on the Ryerson’s fate…. And the question about seeing ships go to scrap was great to hear. As a Navy sailor, I know some of us still connect with certain vessels, either because we served on them or were connected to a significant event surrounding them. In a way, they are are fellow veterans that you hope will find other work, enjoy retirement or die with dignity. For me, seeing an old ship sunk in the name of creating a home for sea life or with the goal of testing hull designs to save the lives of sailors is dying with dignity. Maybe it’s a strange mixed emotion, but deep down a small part of me rejoices when I read of an old laker being towed off to a foreign land to be scrapped, instead breaking free and choosing to join her kindred in the deep waters of the Atlantic. We always mourn the loss of our fellow ships and sailors, but at least for our ships perhaps there is a fate worse than being lost at sea.
what is your opinion on the fate of the ryerson
So much more detail needed.
They look a little different nowadays, that is Ground Zero for modern lifeboat vessels. There are a new one available and there are drop records on CZcams for up to 65 meters. Used lifeboat conversions often get sneered at by yacht owners but I think they are really smart!
I think used life boat conversations are cool, too! A video on them popped up in my recommendations and I've been occasionally watching videos about them since. I'd like to do a small one someday and float her on the rivers here in the Willamette Valley. Depth would be a concern in some areas in the summer so I'd need some kind of inflatable pontoons or something on the sides to clear the hull from the bottom in parts of the river. I'd probably have to reinforce the hull in some way as well. The fact that they're fully enclosed is a bonus here because of the rain. A much wiser choice than a yacht!
"This vessel is life saving equipment." Was. It was.
Great job thank you Captain jerry Steuernagel
Thanks Rhys, Great video
If only Noah knew about these
Explore??? Sorry but, I would hardly call that exploring, three fix camera angles two of which were outside and virtually no information. A little more work and the video could have been much better.
Fibre glass is well known for being fire proof.
Very cool! Enjoyed your expedition. I watched the recorded version. Hope I can see you out on the waters of DC. And thanks to DC Maritime Museum for putting on the speaker series.
Water, Fire, and Hurricane Proof Lifeboat? My insurance company - "Sorry we couldn't insure something like that"
Wonderful preservation of a Historic Vessel, that served the US so very well for many years of the Tug's lifetime. The Purves Family originates from England in 1066 when William The Conqueror invaded southern England. 700 years later sections of the Family settled in Coldingham and Eye Mouth districts of Scotland. Well done to you all with this marvelous work you have preserved for future generations. Alexander John Purves, of Johannesburg, South Africa. 🇿🇦
Hello from Georgia. I think my Uncle Mark de Young helped work on this restoration. Maybe I can visit and tour the vessel.
Killing it, Rhys!!! You seem like you're really in your element :) <3 You are freaking nailing it.
Oh, and the content was interesting too! Lol
Looks really safe and secure. Um why did they get rid of it?🤔
I was curious about that too!
Fun look into one of these!
Rhys, are there any pix of the controls/gauge(s) above the wheel? Neat demo--thanks!
Very nice thank you. I have one also and love it.
Didn't hear you mention the non-return valve-VERY important! Trained on these in the US Navy and used them for several years in commercial work until I got my first KMB and then Superlite.
A great idea.
