Yes. The PerForm proximal contact instrument can be used with a regular Tofflemire-style band.

If you've placed it as far gingivally as possible, the ring shouldn't slip off the tooth. It has retention extensions on the bottom that grip below the infrabulge of the tooth and it's difficult to get them to pop off without removing them with the forcep, as long as it's placed correctly. If it does pop off the tooth, place the ring again, making sure it's seated as far gingivally as possible, then once placed, wiggle the back of the ring loop to make sure it's secure.

It is fairly simple to tighten the bands down and not too difficult to loosen it. Normally you would loosen it up enough after restoring until you can get leverage to pull the band off the tooth, so you aren't tightening and loosening the band repeatedly. As far as being bulky, once the band is placed, you no longer have the tensioning instrument in your way, unlike a tofflemire retainer. The "neck" of the instrument is long enough to reach in areas that may be difficult otherwise.

There are 2 different matrix band placement instruments shown here. NiTin Garrison Band Forceps (NTG-DF6-8) which are more of a standard tweezer placement tool. Palodent rings do not do much to adapt the bands to the tooth. Use some Teflon tape to help close those gaps or you can try our soft-face silicone tipped Garrison rings.

Could you specify more, then, about the issue? Where is the space happening? Is it happening at the margin, happening in the bottom of the box? Is the matrix band moving out of place after the ring is placed or is it's shape changing once the ring is placed, causing the contact point against the adjacent tooth to be the gap?

That would be the BlueView VariStrip. It's a tapered and contoured mylar strip. That will be flexible enough to use to fill in a black triangle.

Wedges, along with matrix bands, are single patient use.

Thanks for the question. For demonstration purposes, rubber dams are not placed on the typodonts (unless it's a video on how to place rubber dam). Also, depending on how deep the margin goes subgingivally, you may not be able to place a rubber dam until you've built up your margin to be supragingival.

Hello Dr. Michael, Thanks for your comment. Our engineering team is aware of this feedback as this was one thing that was brought up in our post launch survey results for Strata-G. While the Strata-G wedges are meant to be flexible enough to place, they are also more firm than our other wedges in order to get that tight seal. They also bend from the bottom of the sides up into the interproximal space and depending on the interproximal space you do have, we can see how this might be difficult to get a wedge in. We do recommend trying to place your ring on the prepped tooth for a little time before placing your band and wedge to try and help pre-separate the teeth and see if that can give you the room you need to place the wedge. However, I do want to assure you that the wedges in the video are in fact the same Strata-G wedges being manufactured and shipped to customers. Kevin's fingers might simply have near superhuman strength compared to most with all the house renovation work and wood working projects he does. :) If you simply don't love them and wish to swap them out with another wedge, please contact our office at 888-437-0032 and they'll get you sorted.

Cutting the matrix bands shouldn't affect the marginal ridge anatomy for the restoration. However, if you don't feel comfortable cutting it, the bands should allow for one to tuck into the other--kind of like nesting them together.

They probably won't have it yet as the product is very new but it looks like Medical Choice Est. is a distributor in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia that has placed some orders in the past couple of years. I recommend checking with them to see if they're going to be stocking the Strata-G system in the future.

When you tighten the band using the reel system, it will "lock" the band in place before you remove the placement handle from the reel. It doesn't unravel until you go to remove the band completely.
