History never repeats Split Enz guitar lesson tutorial
History never repeats, was released by Split Enz in 1981, the same year that MTV launched. It was the 12th video to be played on MTV. Here's a way to play it on one guitar including the brilliant middle section, which is simply one chord shape shifted up and down the neck. Sounds easy, doesn't it?

I have been playing guitar for over 15 years now - self taught and musically inclined. This video is great! The bit about releasing pressure so you don’t actually have to take your fingers off the strings is a game changer. All these years, how did I not know that?! Great lesson, thanks so much!

Thanks. This is very helpful. I appreciate the examples; I feel inspired! I can usually get the strum pattern, but when I add singing---I can stay in my lane with any semi-complicated strum pattern. Any advice?
Practise the strumming until you don’t have to think about it. It’s really the best way to get your singing in order. You need to be able to focus on your singing without thinking about what your hands are doing.

I was 16 when my dad got me my first job summer job on a housing project after begging him. It was 1967. One of the rare Seattle summers where almost every day was sunny. But what a shock. I couldn't believe how long an 8 hour work day was. At the end of the work week on Friday I felt liberated if only for a couple days. This song really hit home. RIP Stevie and George. Your legend just continues to grow. Thanks for the song.

Simply brilliant! This helps me so much! I've been trying to learn scales, but everyone just says to memorize them, which works for me, but gets boring. This is easy for me to remember and understand, since you literally just play in thirds for major vs minor.
