I dunno man, big changes in the last decade. Capitol layed off their mastering guys, etc.. there is a generation that will care about these big rooms closing, and a more recent gen or 2 that wont care..Laptops and software are their domains. But. i guess that also does away with the Studio musicians etc. But are we getting away more from and more of the human experience which the art was supposed to be, and now like lots of other things in life....... virtual. Like a Holladeck experience on the Enterprise. I think we are more and more, washing the human connection out of things. Its like re inventing the wheel. I could go on forever on this, but.. hey, i think were on the same page.
Can you do a video on how to hook up outboard gear to a digital mixer
Love youre channel by the way!!❤
I think there were 2 michael jackson like twins! One tall one shorter just look the we are the world video one with glasses one without!! One is more shy one more outgoing!!! One more jokeful one with very shot temper! Michael joseph jackson vs michael joe jackson!!
I have bought many items from Sam Ash over the years for my studio and also bought basic guitar items. Very sorry to see them go....A shame things are changing for the worse in my opinion. Phil
I agree, guitar center is a cluster of stuff and no one to greet and invite. That is huge in retail.
my opinion: the past was not perfect. Private agents entering CD shops and grabbing CD's and hiding them under the shelf. Record companies putting near-nude women on 12 inch vinyl sleeves. Is it for the better, that music is no longer profitable? Well we'll have to see for ourselves.
My main go to for my last two big equipment purchases was with Sweetwater. They have extended warranties on all of their products and their customer service is top notch. I wasn't surprised that Sam Ash went out of business primarily because of the lack of customer service with my experiences. I would enter the store and no one would say a word to me. Or, they wouldn't have much knowledge on any of the equipment when asked. But, to your point, the layout of Sam Ash was much better than Guitar Center. Also, brick and mortar won't last much longer given that all the inventory is online anyway (versus in store) and most of the employees are clueless.
I'm surprised the Guitar Center still has a brick and mortar.

Nothing matches old gear! It's just the truth!
Even in a home studio I think people will still need mixers and master engineers...for now. Almost everyone I know has home studio and pretty much none of the make a studio quality mix and master. Its still not good enough because they don't have the ear or training. Sure you could use Ai mastering but its not good enough yet. Maybe one day it will be. What a time to be alive.
Behringer is not charging cheap for new gear because they wanna give good prices.. they're doing that because that's what people is willing to pay ..
@SeventhSonMusic yes. Behringer needs be real careful because warm audio , Stam audio and many other companies already have an edge up and Behringer don't want shoot themselves in the foot
I believe all hardware companies are gonna be in trouble soon ... As more commercial studios go under the market is gonna be flooded with hardware gear for cheap driving prices down .. hardware prices are dropping fast .. for instance the new ssl bus+ came out 2 years ago for $2800 find them used on Reverb for $1800 .. not to say plug-ins are getting better and cheaper... Like you said more people aren't willing to invest that money for a 10% improvement the average person is not gonna hear in the mix ... having hardware is gonna be like having a telephone landline in a couple years ..
you are exactly correct on your comparisons. Recording at higher sample rates is pure and simple, millions of more data bits. If you look at a curve of audio at 16bit/44.1k in micro, that curve will look like stair steps. That sampling is super high in comparison to analog, but the analog will saturate, whereas digital will clip a nasty distortion. I admit CDs and DVDs sound good, but since I bought my Antelope Ive been running it at 24/192khz. I bought the original Zen Studio. I got screwed on the plugin side, they lied. I already hhad bought a UAD Octo and slowly purchased plugs over the years and it puts no strain on my PC or zero/3.6gig quad, 16gig ram, ssd drives. its good enough for this OG, who will be 69 on Tues. So, I agree with you. It boils down to the ear, input chain, and the musician. The better the musician, the less pain in the ass. I dont want to hear autotune no mo. I always enjoy hearing your broadcasts of thoughts. -----ROCKO, ps. I may add, running low sample and bit rate thru good analog gear will fatten the audio up. Its, to me, all about laying down good sounds, good sounding notes to begin with.
They want to gatekeep. I remember a few years ago establish producers in Jamaica were complaining about the quality of music coming out on the island from the young generation. I told my friend that what they truly have an issue with is losing money and control. In the past artist would have to go and beg these guys for access to studios. Now they want to complain about music quality when they themselves did not establish any avenues to teach up and coming producers and engineers. Matter of fact a lot of them were secretive about recording techniques. A computer, DAW, audio interface and raw talent and work ethic solved a lot of problems for many artist.
Best explanation I’ve ever received on connecting your instruments through the board to the compressor to the EQ to the interface or not. I’ve struggled with the layout and how to set up and route the signal for some time but after listening to this, it couldn’t be clearer. WOW. Thanks
Thanks, useful insights. I just downloaded Luna for Windows and have to say I'm not impressed. The only thing I liked was the cosmetics - a lot more easier on the eye than Cakewalk/Sonar, which like you, I've used happily for years. The sound from Luna (through my usual RME interface) sounded distorted and indistinct. An imported master WAV done in Sonar using Ozone 9 made the Luna track overload into the red - and I couldn't find a way to cancel the meter overload? I turned the Luna masrer volume (bottom right) down -15.8d and still Luna reckoned it was too loud!! I'm stumped. I couldn't find way to return controls to zero, e.g. done on most DAWs and plugins with shift-click or ctrol-click, and right clicking didn't seem to work anywhere. I know I'm used to Sonar (and Studio 1) but I really didn't feel Luna was in any way intuitive. I'll probably continue having the occasional fiddle, but in all honesty I can't see me switching to it, when the only 'attraction' for me would be the pretty makeup it wears!
Its a great post Mark. It reminds me of something David Foster said last yr kind of along the same point " the music industry is thriving... the record business is in the toilet." And its really true. With major cracks becoming public now on some of the industry pillars or heavy weights , i think Rome is going to start to crumble. even more over the next while . ... Long live the independent artist !
those who talk down about gear do you think they know how the expensive equipment sound. great video bro
Some actually do. The issue is that certain names of gear that had been in top studios all over the world were super cheap in the 80s but are now ridiculous in cost now. Those certain brand names have become super expensive to buy today. Clone Companies and Plug in companies know this Those talk down gear usually can't afford the super expensive gear either. You will know them when you see them in their CZcams channels. Some of them will have a load of plug ins and definitely some clone in their racks as well. Its almost the see monkey say see monkey do syndrome. They only do it it because its popular to do even though they are not absolutely right about it
Hi, Mark do you think the music business is dying due to the fact that it is structed in such a way that exploits the artists and entiches music industry people. I am in agreement with you the the labels are the problem. All different races of musicians got screw over by these lables, however no group of musicians in history got screwed over like black musicians. It's rediculous how many great black musicians die penniless in this music industry. The other side of the problem is the mindset of most musicians, espevially black musicians. We always believe that the only way to go is with the majors wnd the fact that we want our music accepted by a global market. Now there's nothing wrong with being embraced by a larger audience base but at what cost? This has worked against black recording musicians and in the favor of these large record companies. Black musicians need to create a new modle wherebyc6hey are able to gain maximum return on their creativity. When you considercthat we are the ones creating all the musical genres that feeds 5he music industry and give musicians of othercraces somethingcto play. Hip Hop is a perfect example of this. I saw several articles citing the fact that whites effectively own and benefits the most from the Hip Hop industry. How cancthis be? Black musicians and music product consumers must restructure how they are going to create, distribute, and consume the music we produce. This is more possible today than at any other time in the history of the music business. Today we have the technology to create our own streaming platforms, we can comectogether and purchase the venues to do live shows and we have 5he power to restructurecthe music business in a way that is faircto both our lable owners and artists alike. Look at the East indian music industry. Consider the Asian music industry. They don't have a large customer base globally outside their culture but ere these industries suffering because of this? The answer is a resounding no because the get enough support from their own people. To avoid much of the exploitation that black musicians experience, we need to stop going through those 'traditional' channels which forces us yo sign our lives potential wealth away. Anyway, that was a bit long winded but that is my thoughts on the subject matter. Please let me know how you feel about my opinions.
You are 100 percent accurate, I will talk about this in a live chat
❤
In my opinion, you are much better off with Reaper at $60 than the free version of Luna. Because once the free 30 day trial of Luna PRO is done, you will need a crap load of third party plugins because the bare bone Luna is extremely poor in built in plugins. Heck even with the Luna PRO bundle at $200 the plugins selection is poor compared to other DAW, but I must admit that the plugins you get are top tier if you are into emulation of vintage analog studio equipment. To get the best experience out of Luna, you need at least Luna Pro bundle and ideally a bunch of other UAD plugins or other third party plugins. Personally I think Luna is not designed to be a low cost DAW because it is designed to lure you into buying expensive UAD plugins because they are so well integrated in the DAW. The real reason why Luna is free is to make people on ProTools switch to the UAD ecosystem. And their strategy seems to be working because on Luna forums the majority of users are former Protools users who tried the free version of Luna and decided to upgrade to Luna PRO and ditch Avid and their overly expensive Protools. For them, Luna PRO plus a bunch of UAD plugins is way cheaper.
LUNA will remain free because UA did what BandLab has thus far failed to do and put together a hood add-on package with extensions that any serious user will buy for at least a $199 perpetual license (on sale, $399 MSRP). So, it effectively has a paid "Pro" Tier. It also has great integration with their interfaces, only really somewhat matched by Cubase with Steinberg interfaces, and even then not completely. For MIDI Production, it doesn't factor in heavily. For Recording and Mixing, I see no reason to care about Cakewalk once this gets out of Beta on Windows. It's very good. It's just very Beta, still. For producers on MPC or Maschine.. or using FL, who prefer a more robust mixing experience, LUNA is practically the "must try first" option right now. UA's plug-ins integrate seamlessly into it, as well (browser, etc.). Honestly, SONAR was never among the best DAWs for mixing. It was initially a great composition and production DAW. And I wish they had given more development to some of its features in that area. Those developers do not like to go back and polish or finish off features, so I couldn't continue to use it. Development is scattershot, and their inability or u willingness to lean into a specific core market segment will hurt them. It is too "does some of everything, but isn't particularly great at it."
Great
How can i connect my yamaha Analog 40 ch Mixing console to my patch box
i have a video on how my patch bay is setup. you can watch it as a reference or guide
Behringer gives access to affordable gear which nobody can pick out in a mix. For the price of one piece of equipment from a high end manufacturer I can buy five pieces of Behringer gear. I’m not a commercial facility that can’t afford downtime, if something breaks I will fix it myself. I don’t need high end gear, I need tools that gets the job done 😊
well said
You should do a live with EA SKI🫶🙏
Wow this is the other video you talked about. Ok im conviced. Ill go for behringer after all i dont have all the money for ssl or neve console Thank you sir. If you can recommend a few outbord gear( cheap and good ) that will be fine too. For now i use strictly pluings but im not pleased with the audio quality. Thanks one more time.
the Behringer mx8000 is a great analog console, for outboard gear that is affordable, DBX 166s are really good compressors, alesis 3630s are good. used for about 50 bucks on ebay. a couple of yamaha rev 7, a yamaha spx 90 reverb. but definitely at least one good external preamp
Ok this is the video you talked about . I love the sound. That crisp vintage sound
they are decent consoles
I'm concerned about the audio quality. Will it do better than the preamps in my focusrite. A friend of mine has one for sale. I dont know if it will sound better than the preamps in my focusrite. I would have picked it up. Also can i send out audio from my daw into the unit. Will there be a noticeable sound improvement if i do that?. Thank you
one of my videos you can look at was called what you wont do for love featuring behringer . you can judge the sound quality for yourself. I also did a video talking about behringer and cakewalk software. you can listen to that recording as well in the video
@@marksmusicplace3627 oh thanks let me go check them out
I have an apollo solo. I'm getting a mackie 32x8 console. Would I have to get a newer interface with more inputs and outputs to be able to run my audio through the board?. This will be my first mixing console
its really based on how many inputs you want to record at once and how many outputs you want to mix from the daw thru the interface into the console. I had a 8 channel output interface for years and switch to a 24 output MOTU interface so I can use the console to mix with as well as use some outboard gear with inserts on channels and bus channels. trust me when you incorporate your mackie console with your DAW and interface, You will love the difference sonically.
@@marksmusicplace3627 you confirm what I originally thought. Thank you for that. A newer interface with more outputs it is
A simple setup to record will still cost about $5k. And you still have to pay for a mix and master. Its tough to give it away for free but thats the model the industry settled for... The only time I get paid properly in music has been: working at record labels (2000s) CD shops / guitar shops / working at studios and writing music for TV commercials. I tell people now if they wanna make money go play covers or record other peoples music as a producer / engineer. Selling original music is over.
Sonar was my first traditional DAW. It didn't get a lot of use cause I barely recorded stuff. I was very much a Reason person back then.
Hell it’s been that way already for years! Your car analogy is really good. Because no new vehicle is ever going to be manufactured with a four barrel carburetor ever again. We love the classics but those cars are extinct.
This could actually put some pressure on CW to either keep it free or keep it extremely low cost , but continue to give users more all around.
this is more of what I was thinking as well
A bunch of golden nuggets from you. Thank you, sir!
I used to start with Cakewalk 3.0 years ago. I loved it but changed to Digidesign because of using a Digi002 desk. Now I’m working with Reaper and I’m really happy with it. I don’t use anything that was or is a closed ecosystem, UAD, Avid, Softube, etc… nope 👎
No, Sir Cakewalk is not in trouble, CW still Have a large following! Now, if the ypdates can catch up to S1, such set commands make it more intuitive, etc..... Anything free gets attention, but free and cheap catches up with you sooner or later. I have checked out Luna. I'm not switching to Luna, I have it in my Arsenal. Studio One and Cubase based for my clients or my DAW's of choice. 😊
I have the 369 for 5 days now and did over 10 mixes with it and for me it works fantastic. I don’t care what other people say, I love this compressor 😊 I also pre-ordered the 1273 because I like the transformers, I can use it when mixing and use it for tracking. Both units for 1140 bucks is a steal imo.
Everything sounds fine
The alerts aren't working, Mark. Don't know why.
My opinin...buy it ONCE and buy is Right. If you can't, just use good quality pluings. Buy name brand quailiy gear and it has good resell value. Go ahead, buy the Behringer 369 and try sellingit in a year on the used market. You'll be lucky to get 20% of your money back. Neve, SSL, API etc....you'll get 70% back easy.
You don’t have resale in mind when you buy Behringer, the only difference in Neve and Behringer at this point is branding. It’s all subjective anyways.
this is very subjective to whom is in the market for used gear. Behringer today is tons better than years ago one example is the Behringer x32 is still about 80 percent of the original cost used than when it was brand new. plus Behringer isn't the only company that have really low resale value. Yamaha reverbs, DBX compressors, Alesis gear and lots other have really cheap prices on the used market. Most people can't afford to buy used Neve, SSL, API gear even at 70 percent the original cost. 3000 dollar UA 1176 new and 2100 used, Not to many people are dropping that kind of cash when Warm Audio and other companies make clones and sell them at around 500 to 700. Plus most people are buying plug ins.
sorry but nobody is selling even the KT stuff for 20% of the new price, that's just false. In reality there have been 1073SPX's sold on reverb for 50%. You're going to lose at least the value of the Behringer units if you decided to buy and then sell a Neve, easily.
So if I buy then sell the Behringer 1273 and get back 20% i'm down $560 dollars. If I buy then sell 2 channels of Neve preamps and get back 70%, I'm out over $1000. Behringer it is!
Which is the biggest loss….80% of $800 or 30% of $6000?
I will probably get both. I don't need them but GAS says go ahead plus I don't have an outboard compressor not that I use compressors that much anyway. I stop taking these snobs seriously when they stared trashing Midas gear simply because Behringer owns them now. Clones are only an issue when Behringer does it.
WARM audio has been making clones forever. Atleast behringer puts a spin on it. I will be purchasing this compressor. I hope its not as noisy as the synths, but I'm guessing its going to be a solid product!
I modded a Mackie Onyx 24-4 to be Post gain, Eq, Solo, Mute and fader on the direct outs. The whole thing from start to finish took about 5 hrs to do 20 channels. The advantages at least for me are #1 I'm spending less time in Cubase tweeking, What you hear is what you get! #2 And if the drummer doesn't stop when asked, I simply mute the tracks from the drum kit which is in another room and work in silence. Some of the older Mackie models already have this, certain Behringer mixers you need to mod but easy, and a few other brands are simple mods. Can't wait to catch up on your other videos and keep up the great work!

Thanks for answering my meter bridge question Mark.
"does any1 still say fat anymore?"😂💀
Hello Mark. Do you know if it is possible to get a meter bridge for an Allen and Heath GL2400? I have been looking but no luck. Is there a specialty place that sells them?
Great freaking question!!!!!!
