Just found your channel, I need to explore more. I have a massage gun, the only time I can stall it is when I'm going hard on the back of my hip bone when I'm working on sacroiliac joint and it's almost skin on bone. A few weeks ago, I went kayaking on the local river in Central Indiana that was pretty crowded, and there was definitely some signs of alcohol and a certain fragrance in the air more than once. There were quite a few parties where groups had grounded their kayaks or canoes on sandy spots along the banks. There were also quite a few children on the river with parents. It even seems most of the teens were with adults which was probably a good thing.

For #2, I have loner gear for folks that want to give it a try. All good points!

For those that get in on in the woods, just a quick reminder: your tent isn't soundproof, and the rest of us don't want to hear it.

I sure don't participate in Hike Naked Day! 😂 I'm a sad solo hiker cuz of #2. 😢 #4 is a real big one that shocks people. I still feel judged a lot, and I'm medicinally 'green'. Thank you for explaining why wagbags are necessary! A lot of people don't know why they're required in certain places. Great video with a fun topic! You should do more! 😁💚👊

My brother and I were planning a hike on San Gorgonio in California. A ineighborhood boy, who had kind of adopted me because I was a Police Officer ,was hanging at my house while we were checking our gear. As we talked about the weekend trip the boy, Fred, got excited and wanted to go with us. He said he had never been camping and really, really wanted to go with us. I was thrilled about this, because it was his first hike, and we were planning in a two night hiking and camping trip that was almost all up hill until the trip down after the second night. I also didn't think that Fred was up to hiking about twenty miles, up hill for two days, as he was overweight. I also didn't believe that his parents would allow him to go.. He was so excited, and begging to go, so I told him that if his parents agreed, he could go. Anyway, to my surprise they agreed and come the weekend we took off. Fred was really into the trip and my brother found, or borrowed backpacking gear? too fit him.. On the mountain Fred remained excited for about a mile, and then started saying he was tired and needed a rest, we rested. After another ten minutes hiking Fred began to ask were we there yet, and complaint that he was too tired to go on. After we had gone another mile he demanded a rest, and he ate several of the snacks he had brought along. Long story short, I ended up carrying Fred's pack, and he held onto my belt as I helped him hike to our first nights camp site. It took us so long to get there, because Fred needed numerous rest breaks. When we got to the camp site it was near dark, and I told Fred to rest as my brother and I would set up the tents and get supper started. My neighborhood was full I was gathering fire wood, and as I returned to the camp site I didn't see Fred yhere, and asked my brother where he was. He said that Fred told him he was going to use the rest room. I looked for Fred, and called for him, but got no response. I knew, at that moment, that Fred was heading home. I could tell he hated hiking because he kept asking to go home, but I had told him he would like it better once we got to camp. I thought that since we had made it to camp, and I had agreed that if in the morning he still wanted to go home we would cut the trip short, and go home. Off I went trying to find Fred on the trail toward home, while my brother looked around the camp site area for him. I was frantic with worry that I wouldn't find him before something bad would happen to him. I found a candy bar wrapper on the trail like Fred had with him, and thought that I was right about Fred heading home. It got dark, and I was even more frantic with worry than before. Finally I heard movement in front of me on the trail, and started to call Fred's name out loud. Instead of answering my call, I heard running ahead of me. I took off running and was finally able to see, to my relief, Fred trying to run down the trail. I caught him, and to my shame I let my relief in finding him reveal itself in the form of yelling at him about running away, and how dumb it was to go off alone after dark. I got him back to camp, and after some hot dinner and sitting by the warm fire Fred seemed content to be there. In the morning we headed home, and Fred never asked to go camping again.

You should buy and try different freeze dried meals before you camp. Pack and cook food that doesn’t suck. Biggest issue with freeze dried food is the need for water to rehydrate. Those liquid ounces add up quickly

over estimate things you might need for your first trips because as you progress doing more trips you will have a sense of what you used and didn’t use or used but not often enough to have it type deal. your first couple trips shouldn’t be 80, 90 miles long so weight doesn’t matter in certain aspects.

My experience is if you can't start early. Then get there a day earlier. Hike a few overnight trips before you start long hikes. I mean set up camp then hike. A few times to help find what gear works best. Plan to fail so you never fail. Anything that can go wrong will. Paper map is very important. Sleeping comfortably is most important. Don't follow trends find what you like. I like mummy bags in winter. I change my clothes. I have sleep outfits and hike outfits extra socks and underwear. It is always worth it.

Great list. A few things to consider: only pack what you’ll need, not everything you might possibly want (ounces feel like pounds @ mile 10). Footwear: an extra pound on your feel (weight of your boots / shoes) can feel like an extra 10 pounds on your back. Buy shoes / boots that are light & durable. Make sure you have a good shelter for overnight hikes. Identify water sources before you set out so you don’t carry more than you have to between resupply stops (same thing goes for food on week+ hikes). Work your way up to long hikes. Start w/ day trips, then 2 - 3-dates trips. This will help you figure out a lot about your gear & yourself. Watch a few other CZcams videos. There’s lots more advice out there. And finally, buy a dehydrator (a few good ones cost less than 6 pre-packaged meals, and are straightforward to use). You’ll save $$ in the long run & get to eat what you like.

I decided to keep my JetBoil Fast. I guess when you know how to do it, it's not a big deal to repeat it, but when you don't know the solution...

Beginner mistake #8: Overpacking.

Great video brother!!! So many mistakes I have made the past year plus since I started. I still end up carrying too much food but that's not a bad thing. I also have issues with time managment too which I believe has something to do with my ADHD. As for food, I started out like most using freeze dried. For longer trips this is not bad as they are lighter. But, I have learned for the weekend shorter trips I will carry real food for my dinners and take dried foods for the rest.There's nothing quiet like a medium rare steak after hiking 10 plus miles that day!!! Planning is key for any trip and poor planning leads to numerous issues down the trail. Like many I watch numerous videos like yours to help coach me along the way!!! I usually learn something new by just watching videos, whether little hacks or gear that I didn't know I needed. Hit me up sometime for a trip we both live in Somerset!!!

Dumb things I've done and forgotten or issues I've run into: (1) forgot spoon, (2) lost sawyer filter gasket on first use, (3) brought wrong cable for different powerbank (usb-a to c instead of usb-c on my newer one), (4) caltopo offline map tiles failed to load MULTIPLE times. Abandoning this iOS app. (5) I never can eat enough food and bonk out. Never hungry on the trail.
