Thank you Tommy!
I don't know which part of this contribution is more interesting. The technical knowledge he shares or the beauty of his pictures. And I learned a new one - the Dutch Angle - according to Google - a camera technique used by the German Expressionists in the 1920 - ironically called Dutch. Thank you!
Thank you!
are you using a fullframe camera? with a 35mm lens?
This model must have been thrilled with the final images. Superb work! Love your channel! Please do more of these types of videos, as they are truly inspiring!
Headshots with a 35mm? How are you avoiding distortion of her features?
I'm an experienced non-people photographer. I've photographed a few people over the years but mainly just friends and some street. This winter, traveling in Sevilla, Spain, I saw a young gal trying to get her mother to take a decent photo - so I just asked if she would like me to shoot, showing my (non-photo) business card. Since she was with family, she agreed. In just a couple of minutes I took twenty-five plus photos. What I learned from her is that a good model makes for great photos! Nothing like I've ever shot before. (I guess she's just very practiced at selfies.) When I e-mailed the photos to her, she thought that they were great! Also, I noticed that after I took a few and complimented her, she started looking directly at the camera.
I use a Fuji X100 T with a fixed lens (35 mm equivalent), and you are correct, best focal length for me too, and like you say, you concentrate more on composition than you would with a zoom lens. Thanks for the video !!!!
Can U tell please, are you cropping some of your photos from this video , or they all full sized ? 🙏
Awesome content brother.
Waiting for your come back bro! Your content is really top notch. I’m already a professional commercial photographer but I really love watching creativity-focused channels like yours. It’s hard to find ones now that do not discuss just tech and gear.
Hi Tommy! That is great video, found it very helpful and encouraging, especially I'm after tough portrait session 😅. I'm beginner in portrait and guiding amateurs during the photoshoot so I'll try to use your tips 👌🏻
Excellent analysis of this focal length. For the past 12 years my most used camera has a fixed 35mm f2 (Sony RX1), it has really evolved my ability to see and compose. Thanks for doing this video.
Great video
2 is actually so pretty and calming ❤ so pretty

What a tender photo shoot
Thanks ❤ Sir
Great video and valuable channel! Keep it up!!
what camera you used
Sorry for my noob question but all these photos the subject is in the center. So does that mean the 1/3 rule does not apply with the 35mm in portrait?
My favorite focal length is also the 35mm. Actually, I recently got the Sigma ART 35mm... your lens! It is my absolute favorite, it just completely blows my mind how much better it is in every respect compared to the nifty fifty that it replaced... for a very long time my (only) lens was the 50mm on crop sensor (effective 80mm). Looking back at my photos I took wonderful pictures with it, but I never felt I was completely happy with it, always felt it gave me tunnel vision and I was extremely frustrated that it did not allow me to capture wider scenes. Since, I have a 28mm as well, and tried 50mm, 58mm, 135mm, and other combinations as well (as I have both a 5Dc and an M50, so can use same lenses with very different effective focal lengths). I found on the M50 that after I got the EF-M 22mm prime lens, that gave me the field of vision that I found closest to what I am the happiest with. The 22mm on the crop sensor is the 35mm on full frame, and that's why I upgraded to the Sigma ART 35mm. I am just so much impressed with that lens!!! With the EF 28mm F1.8 I thought that I needed a different camera body, as the low light focusing ability, noise, etc was very poor and totally useless for indoors portraits. However, the F1.4 Sigma ART is not just a tiny bit better at low light, it is completely transformational! Astoundingly sharp even wide open, very low noise in comparison, and the focus is always superb. I realized that I do not need a different camera body, and my 5D classic is all I want....
Hey what 35mm lens should I buy for my Canon EOS Rebel G film camera?
Good, but What CPU core have?
But your pictures are really not portraits, you want take pictures person and background in one shot. If I'm looking on your fotos and my eyes do not know where to look. Portraits are fotos of faces, and nothing else. Your fotos are something what you want to be art. There is long way for you. But good start.
I can open America for you, but a portrait is not only a face in the frame, a portrait can be full-length, chest, front, etc. So dude, what he shoots is the most portrait there is. I advise you to become more familiar with the trends in photography and read specialized literature.
thanks Tommy this is s0 clutch
no flash ? good work !
I really loved how you explained in the video how you wanted to execute the photo and how to effectively communicate you your participant. I learned that the best photos come from teamwork. My favorite photos were when the woman had the hat on near the water line and also when the sun was behind her. I always thought that harsh sun behind the person would make the photo not a good shot. I learned that it also depends on the ultimate goal of the photo, depicts how you set the scene and use the environment. thank you very much for this video
You're pretty good at dissecting your photos..... it's rather interesting 👌. Thanks for sharing 💕
You can say same thing about 50mm
that was so helpful that was so helpful!❤ thank you
that's a great process video, thank you!
Your rock! Thanks for the tips
Great tips...thanks for taking us back to the basics! :)
you give tips that really help☺️
Very nice work Tommy! I am starting shooting some portrait as well, I have noticed the difference in shutter speed in you photos and I am wondering how you chose the right shutter speed and based on what circumstances. Thank you!
Ça c’est une chaîne qui aide à avancer 🙏🏽
Please why did you stop making videos?
Good points!
Learn ton shit of knowledge just from 8 minutes of your wisdom, more than dozens of hours spend fidgeting around, watching other videos. Absolute quality content, many thanks!!!!!
The Dutch angle? I'm Dutch but I never heard to that :) besides my 18-55 kitlens, I just bought a 35mm 1.8 lens for my Nikon D3500. I'm really enjoying your 35mm content.
First off that crackhead that died was a loser selling drugs to his own people. The democrats pushed welfare in America to break up the family. That's why most black kids don't have fathers. Learn from history and don't go woke.
Awesomes shots
Tthose 5dMkIII shot are awesome =O
Excellent video
Which camera have you used for this ?
the fog looked cool tho :) lovely work here.
I love my 35 mm, 1.8 ... but definitely, I need some zoom one or another prime, maybe a 85 mm. Love your work. Regards from Chile.
