11 year old me flipped the channel just as the tent scene was starting.. No sleep for me that night..

I made the mistake of buying the cheap Cobra cb from Walmart that didn't come with an rf gain function. If i was within a mile of others in my group their signal would override my receiver and their transmission were unintelligible. RF gain is necessary with these radios.

Defender: Crappy controls I totally agree with you. The BBC version they've completely messed it up as the controls seem to have been inspired from the arcade. Total nightmare and completely unplayable.

I am not a CBer but have lots of CB radios. its the default radio communication.

Great video...brought back some great memories, I got into CB in 1982 in NE Engand. Got to know loads of people through it and used to go out with mates in the car and get chatting to people in other towns. I went through a few rigs...and ended up with a York 863 and Binatone 5 Star (same thing underneath the cover). Happy days!

No, you are not alone. I played this on both the Atari ST and the Amiga, but I found the Amiga version more fluid and responsive. Great game, severely underrated in its day. Whilst it might seem a bit repetitive, the gameplay had just the right balance, so you found you got a bit further with each attempt. Graftgold were a strong programming team and also released Realms on the Amiga, one of its best strategy games.

I'm sitting here with a Uniace 200 , exactly the same as the one in the video , classic set and a clone of the Audioline 341 ; I also had a Uniace 100 and Audioline 340 which were the smaller version , and I still have an Audioline PT-342 which had the transceiver box you could hide away with all the controls and the channel display on the mic ; all still work . I also have my original Binatone Breaker Phone , which was a CB that looked like a car telephone , and a spare one I bought later . Like so many others I had an Amstrad 901 , various Midland Rigs , a Binatone 5 star , and a few 'naughty' ones like Ham International Multimode II and Concorde II , a Stalker ( model forgotten ) and briefly a NATO 2000 .There were no doubt countless others . As for aerials , I had the original Thunderpole at home , at work I had a Shakespeare Big Stick , and for mobile use I had numerous antennae ranging from DV27s through a 'Bullwhip' , which I still have , and a couple of K40s .

I actually do believe it’s Virtual in the V- suffix as my friend had Renaldo V-football which was also by infrogrames actually released at the same time

I was 5(!) when I watched this, sitting on my Mum's lap. Scared the shit out of me, and the scenes of the red first-person murders were burned into my memory. I wasn't even old enough to understand the plot. I never knew the name of it and only found it many many years later as I don't think it was ever re-run on the BBC.

I haven't seen it since I watched it aged 12 back in 1981 BUT can still clearly remember key sequences 44 years later - which gives a good indication of how powerful this was. I also read the book after watching it which I remember being very creepy. Thanks for this interesting video - it did make me chuckle that David Wiltshire was a dentist like his hero. A touch of the Stephen Kings perhaps who often makes his heroes writers 😊

I own the 1st revision and was informed that the second revision has a more washed out screen in comparison. The only plus from some I've heard is the light up coin door.

Boscombe Pier (next to Bournemouth) early 80s, was blown away by it. The sound and music! So evocative of those times even now in 2024. Recently I played it on my Lightning Modz console and was delighted to find the FBNeo version has gamepad perfectly setup and calibrated by default, it was the first time I'd been able to play it properly since the old days. You must be very proud of your cabinet, it's lovely!

love the video, I have aquired a hitachi k62L its in great condition the only thing that doesnt work is the TV I assume the tube has gone but i dont know where to start with it.

The ch9 knob was the trick to get you to the US mode in disquize or 40 Ch Hi . Or else why have a ch9 on a 40 ch cb ??

I had this! Loved it at first but found it very difficult and boring after a few months. Fond memories though. As a kid batteries were expensive too (UK), once those batts ran down that was it for months! Cheers

I was just talking about this the other day to my girlfriend. My late mother and I watched this when it was broadcast and it had a profound effect on my young mind. Years later and my mother had no recollection of it at all, and even when I bought the DVD she still couldn’t remember it!!!! I did though and thanks for making this video!

Left it's mark on me too.. I hope it's never brought back by the current BBC.. Last time I found a copy on Dvd, the seller was asking £40.00 for it.. Should have just bought it.
