    IMHO, it would be the best for everyone involved - and to keep RL healthy - to have RL start the several easy games we have and play the first 1-2 quarters. If we have a good lead by then, rotate in the other QBs and let each get some game experience when there is little threat of anything disastrous happening. That might preserve RL's ankle so he'd be fresh to handle the tougher games and to last longer into the season. That would also give the best QB prospect a head start on next season.

    • @Dimwitland
      @Dimwitland Před dnem

      This is a reasonable take for what we have seen of CJ so far, and I agree. Our problem is, practice sessions in artificial conditions like Spring Ball, are like plans for a battle and do not survive the first bullet or the first offensive snap in real conditions against someone like A&M and their scary-savvy HC Elko. Who would imagine that Book would be ND's winningest QB in the entire 132 years of the program?? Goolsby's "wait and see" is a good idea, and like you @michaelmorris6406, I think that might go double for some of the other QBs in the room, regardless of his chops as a linebacker. Go Irish!

  • @sbnative574
    @sbnative574 Před dnem

    I think QB RL is overrated and still needs development. RL was not good against ND and Clemson. RL had several good runs against ND and Clemson that was critical and changed the game. But his overall body of work in those games was average. We need above average play at the QB position. I think QB SA is a wild card. Not athletic and a structure QB like Sam Hartman. The offense line has to play perfectly for them to have success. However, SA plays hard and just needs more playing time for a true evaluation. I think QB KM can be the best QB in the room. Smart, athletic, and a strong arm with good accuracy. Plus, I think KM has that it factor in big games. This is what ND has been missing for years. I think QB CJC is a good practice player with a ton of hype. Kinda reminds me of Ron Powlus. All hype and QB ND fans continue to make excuses for. However, I hope he's the real deal. I would like to see the coaching staff hand the keys to KM. Start building chemistry now for future success.

    Manti IMHO single handily changed our trajectory as a program. Let's be real, his impact on this program is still being felt now and will forever be felt. Manti was good, but the Heisman crap was bullcrap. Let's keep it real he was only a Heisman candidate because of the team national title run and ND storied program. Manti should have never been a Heisman candidate. There are other LBs with better results and numbers that were never considered Heisman candidates. Alabama exposed Manti and the entire fraud defense. ND played a soft schedule and barely won games that year. BK and ND were not ready for big boy football when they met Alabama. I went to the game. For the record, Jaylon Smith was a better LB than MT. Manti point of contact was great, but his tackling was not good. Manti bounced off tackles against Alabama.

    Thanks for the cast Tyler. I did so enjoy it! Linebacker... As someone once said, the masses are a**es, and JD Bertrand was an exceptional player to have had the services of. He wouldn't be in the NFL if it weren't so, and say what you want about other past greats in that position of 'captain of the defense'. His savvy and diagnostic speed and accuracy often put him in position to blowup plays despite any shortcomings in physical assets - the opposite of a J Sneed who simply moves faster-than-light to appear his equal on some occasions. Kaiser may or may not be his equal this year, but even if he is a close second diagnostically, the physical capacities of the new wave of teammates at LB he can call upon for a defensive play incorporates abnormally high athletic and instinctive play from the list you named off. My comment here is grossly understated. Like Boubacar 'Time-Out' Traore, several of the LBs that will start this year have exhibited near super-human physical behavior. The Sky's the limit - - No pressure!! Fun cast, keep it up (god knows how, but... that's why you make the big bucks! LOL)! Go Irish!

      Why? There are 4 scholarship QBs on the roster better than him. Go Irish

      Let him play, running back/wide receiver as a walk on. He's a good teammate and could contribute even if he's not on the field. Special teams takes special players as well lol

      @@brendanboggs2883 The issue is of course, there is no scholarship for him there, the Lacrosse and FB seasons don't overlap, but their practice schedules do and it is a lot of commitment from Buchner for probably not much opportunity to play, unless he's really good at punting... until that Aussie is ready of course...

      You should reread my comment. I said walk on. I said good teammate. I said contribute even if not on the field. I even said special teams. People really just seeing what they want to lol.

      @@brendanboggs2883 Oh, sure, I did read that, and contrary to what you may think, I am not against it in any way -- I'm for it... but, realistically, for Buckner to have skin in the game it is a huge effort to add a second sport (like having two full time jobs plus school) without any sort of financial support (he almost certainly has no support from the Lacrosse team which IIRC D1's only get 12.6 total scholarships, which even if they are often split up - means even veteran benchsitters are unlikley to sniff even a shard of one). Hey, maybe its boring to sleep or have down time, and his social calendar is too open. I'm not saying he shouldn't be _allowed_ to do it, I am saying it doean't make much sense since ND is over the critical number even of backups in every offensive skill position, and its an awful grind to be Rudy - my positional exception in my comment above notwithstanding. I could be totally wrong and maybe he WILL do it and be a savior on a punt return because the other five guys who are better at it are all.... injured. I just don't see him doing it or being encouraged to do it by the institution.
