Sailing Our CS20
zhlédnutí 12KPřed 10 lety
Come aboard our CS20 as we sail around Clarks Hill / Thurmond Lake on the Savannah River. It's a little tricky sailing single-handed and trying to direct a video at the same time, but it came out pretty well.
Rigging to Sail: Core Sound 20
zhlédnutí 14KPřed 10 lety
The Core Sound 20 is a 20' cat ketch rigged sailboat. Ours takes 13 minutes to rig for sailing. People sometimes ask me if it's difficult to rig, so here I am doing it at 4X speed. Stepping the masts alone requires concentration and balance, but the rest is easy.
DIY multipurpose deck panels for our sailboat

It's a sleeping berth, a sunbathing platform, a kid's play area, a lunch table, a bilge seat, a bench seat, and a portable chart table all in one! (well okay, all in four). An overview of the four multipurpose deck panels I built for our Core Sound 20. They really enhance the convenience and versatility of our sailboat.
Improved DIY gimbal stove for our sailboat
zhlédnutí 42KPřed 10 lety
This video shows the refinements I made to the DIY single-burner gimbal stove I built for our 20' sailboat. The new mount provides much better stability, looks much nicer, and is very easy to install/remove/relocate. I also added a heat/wind shield for added safety and efficiency. I like it better than anything sold commercially and it suits our needs perfectly, so this is probably the final ve...

DIY Stainless Tubing Bender

Our homemade stainless tubing bender, which we built for bending 7/8" diameter 304 stainless steel tubing (3/64" wall thickness). We needed a tubing bender to make a custom spray dodger (and possibly also a bimini top) for our 20' cat ketch sailboat. Cost was about $50 in materials and 6 hours of labor. About half of the $50 was spent on plywood and bolts, and the other half was for the 7/8" ro...
The link to the plans says it’s not secure and may be trying to get financial info. Can you update the plans link?
I just binge watched your videos. This was truly amazing. I’ve thought it would be cool to do a build like this, but after seeing all that’s involved I’ll stick to my sailboat.
Nice work guys!!! AllthebestRoy
Thank you for the video's, I have finally decided to get started thanks to these. I was following your posts on bbc, but I was still unsure if I could actually build it, but this has inspired me.
Randall, unless you definitely need this much space, you might consider the smaller GT23 version. It's shocking how large and how much labor the GT27 requires. Ours is coming out well, but WOW has it been exponentially more work than any of the previous boats I built before.
Yay! Checked in and happy to see a new upload - Thank You!
Like most of us watching your build, we’re waiting for the next installment.
Hope you're getting settled in at your new home and there will be time to finish the boat. Just finished watching all 9 videos. Very impressive work. Can't wait to see Not Too Shanty in the water.
Very interested in this boat please tell me how I can get the plans
When using the expanding do you have to plan for condensation or. Is that not an issue?
There are debates about this among many builders but generally I was convinced by a few that if the space is thoroughly filled with foam and well sealed, the risk of condensation is low. In open boats where rain and spray often collect in the bilge, that may not hold true, but especially in a dry insulated cabin interior, I suspect condensation will not really be an issue. Hard to say for certain. Only time will tell.
You built something incredibly beautiful here. Oh yes, and you built a great boat too.
I'd really like to see more, thanks for posting!
Amazing craftsmanship and so great to see this as a family project, God bless🙏
The boat is looking so good! You might have to add a heater to it now that you live up north.
elegance in its simplicity. A brilliant job
after a long time ,a new video . i was waiting so long for it thanks .
From trailer at the ramp to water, and sailing sailing, I would estimate 45 minutes.
45 minutes for what?
Could you please let me know the model of the Anhui Maygood windows you ordered?
It's very difficult to say for sure. I ordered them three or more years ago and it took over a year to get them to close the deal. I don't know the exact model number but they're a gray tinted acrylic insulated model, about 19" h x 32" l or so.
Bought the same plans several years ago and then stumbled across a Yukon Delta at a good price. I told the wife I couldn’t build as much boat for the price. Still looking to build one though. Looking forward to seeing you float this one.
Great to see all of you back at it … What software do you use for you video editing and where do you get your background music. … keep up the great work.
I edit in Adobe Premiere Pro and I use the royalty free music library on CZcams.
Nice work ❤
Glad to see y’all are back was wondering if you would be back
From eastern Minnesota, welcome to the neighborhood!!!
Absolutely amazing effort! Inspiring to see such great care and craftsmanship! I'm looking forward to the finished product.
I've been wondering what happened, it makes sense now. Fantastic work on the project. Hope all is well,God bless
do you have a video showing the construction of the outboard bracket?
That's a commercially ordered/welded aluminum outboard bracket but the installation is shown in an earlier video.
Good luck in WI! Happy winter. But western Wisc can put you on a few bodies of water, not the least of which, the Mississippi! I’ll be watching the finish.
Yes I grew up on the Mississippi in Dubuque, IA. Now we're just a short distance away from it again living in River Falls, WI. This boat will be perfect for that river.
@@LiveDontWatch I grew up north of St Louis, where the Missouri and Illinois converge. Spent many hours on the river above lock 27, the last on the river. It’ll be a great River boat. Beware of the rolling tug wakes!!
Awesome. Looks great
Nice boat! Very spacious 👍🏻
The boat is looking good. Great name. Good luck in Wisconsin, plenty of boating opportunities up there. I used to go fishing in northwest Wi. In the Danbury area.
It’s good to see y’all are still at it. Been enjoying your videos and love the boats name!
Great to get s bit more news. At the last episode, your were thinking of selling and getting something more roomy. I am looking forward to the usage side of the project, and seeing it in operation. Keep up the good work.
Loving your build for years, involving all of your family and it’s looking fantastic. Was wondering how heavy it will be at least 7000 lbs with tanks filled , loaded with your motor. Enjoy your adventures together.
Yes, I wondered about the towing logistics. Having had a similar size boat in the past, it was very easy to get to the towing limits, and not getting away from standard braking systems and into the expensive breakaway load area.
The boat should come out at or under 6000 I think. It's around 4000 now plus 2000 for the trailer.
Well done, great effort. Good luck on the new venture.
Thank you for the update. That looked like some terribly hot and humid working conditions for awhile there. That houseboat is looking fantastic. What a great family project. Best wishes for continued success.
Looking forward to part 10.
Love this boat build. Great family ❤. Let me know if you ever decide to sell the boat.
Checking in for episode 9… very much looking forward to next installment - thank you!!!

Could you please let me know where you bought your scuppers for the front and back decks?
Hi Mark. The rear scuppers are from Seaworty Innovations and were labeled as "316 SS EZ Scupper 3M VHB Mount - 12 deg angle" at the time I purchased them. If they still sell them, that should be enough to track them down by Google Search. Expensive, but very well made and attractive. The forward scuppers are actually hawse pipe covers with these specs: "316 SS hawse pipe - 1.5" x 3.75" hole, 5.5" x 2.5" flange" purchased on Amazon from a vendor called "MarineNow." Then I asked my dad (a steel fabricator) to mill down the flange to only about 1/4" deep (instead of 2.5") to make it shallower than the thickness of the forward hull. It's really just a cosmetic way to make the side scuppers look more nicely trimmed, but is probably totally unnecessary.
Come on Livedontwatch I am eagerly awaiting your ep9 it's been two years!!

I loved your episode nine, and a move in not bad, so you know what I am going to say now, roll on ep10
Could you please let me know where you ordered your windows from and what the material is?
Hi Mark, They're acrylic double pane molded windows on the sides, ordered from Anhui Maygood in China. They manufacture them for Dometic. In the front and back, they're self built frames around fixed, single panes of acrylic plexiglass. About 5/8" thick, I believe, which is probably overkill but I was worried about wind pressure when trailering on the interstate. After a 1700 mile trip to move to Wisconsin from Georgia, they held up great. They probably could've been 1/4" or 5/16" thick instead to save a little weight and cost.
Thank you. Fingers are crossed for another video! Be safe and Happy Holidays!@@LiveDontWatch
I want that
Nice build, how wide is the boat?
It's right at 8'6" wide. The original design had it at 8'10", but I shrank the width 4" to keep it within the normal max trailerable width and avoid the need for a special towing permit in some states.
I just found the 8 videos of this build yesterday. Hopefully you and the family can get settled into the new home and job and be able to get back on the build again soon. Great work so far!
