THE SOUL EATER - THE NEW FILM FROM THE DIRECTORS OF FRENCH SHOCKER, INSIDE (VIDEO REVIEW)
Video review for The Soul Eater, the new film from the directors of French horror Inside. I can confirm that this is a true return to gruesome AF form. A multi-layered crime drama that ain't afraid to get dirty.

Good list! I’d add no tears for the dead and a company man
There is so much more to this film it's a Christ allegory and the most Catholic film ever made.
It's really not. It's a warning to organized religion. If you think that the main character is a martyr and not a boy who deserved to live a life u are part of the problem
Not strictly the same but the criminally underrated Red Riding Trilogy. Astonishing to think you can get three different directors together in collaboration for a trilogy. I never thought the David Peace quadrilogy of books could ever be turned into film but they perhaps got as close to it as anyone could hope for.
Yes, good shout. I should just do another video because there are loads that still need talked about
Great stuff, Moviehooker. Great stuff. Shoutout to the French movie Cruel and the German movie Antibodies, both deep and cerebral thrillers very unappreciated and unrecognized. They need to be seen!
Thank you! Yeah, sadly, a lot of these are criminally unheard of. I also forgot to add in Tattoo from Germany which was pretty damn good too
Oh I need to track down Cruel! Thanks for that!
@jcarson7574 oh, I hope you enjoy it. Very slow burn but just a dirty fkn flick and quite genius too. Let me know what you think
Totally agree with you. I loved the production, score and Nic Cages performance but the lead detective was so bland and lifeless, traumatized or not she just didn't do it for me. AND that final act! What a letdown! They should've had the metal sphere from Phantasm!😂The only disturbing thing was that mom's house! 😂 Anyway glad people are liking it and keeping horror alive and well! This just left me disappointed.
@@jcarson7574 the sphere made me have a Phantgasm straight away 🤣. I loved the atmosphere, just wished the viciousness matched the mood.
SNAP! I said the same about the 15 rating, but that's when my doubts started too. I'd hoped I was wrong, 'cause you know some of the movies that have scared me most have been 15s. Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity.... There will be others I have forgotten as well, so based on that I thought, "Nah, let's give this a chance". And look, I actually enjoyed it, it wasn't bad. I' just wondering what wound up on the proverbial cutting room floor though.
I watched it last week on Shudder. Terrific movie! A definite must see if you are into 1700's folk horror.
@zethraelofteldrassil3149 yes, it was superb. Heartbreaking stuff. That poor woman!
@@moviehooker That poor woman indeed. When the mother was getting the DIL ready for her son to take her back to her mother, she said "She's in the Devil's Bath now. There's nothing more we can do for her.", I almost cried. But, at least we finally found out what the "Devil's Bath" meant. I waited the whole movie for an explanation. I guess mental health was not a priority
@zethraelofteldrassil3149 SPOILERS* * * * * * * * * I thought the husband was impotent, but one of my followers noticed him coming on to men throughout the movie. So, it was such a cowardly, selfish act. She tried so hard and was constantly pushed away. Everyone was to blame...apart from her 😭
This is so exciting I do hope this is really happening
@@KATHLEENDOODY-d2z defo seems like it! Can't wait. Thanks for watching 🤟🎬
i watched Mayrters till the end. a bit much for me

When does it come out?
This year anyways. Not too sure of exact date but I'll let you know asap
It's released on Shudder today. Streaming now!
I say, let's go!!😀😀🤩🤩
The salesman is the devil, YOU CAN FEEL THE LOOK… at the opening scene.
Sorry, just seeing this now! That's a damn good theory 🤟🎬🔥
I was so mad when I found out Eli Roth was no longer directing The Meg. Haven't loved *all* of his movies, but for the most part, yep! I wouldn't watch a Hostel series unless he was involved.
Yes, 100% a red flag when Roth left The Meg. I still had hopes for Wheatley but it was still watered down bs. Roth and Giamatti seem like a great duo to bring a Hostel series to life. I just hope he is the bad guy because it is a side I would love to see.
@@moviehooker Indeed, me too.
Have you actually seen theese? I just tried finding this, and Nothing bad can happen on the seven seas. Nothing came up.
Yes, I have seen them all. Would be available for purchase on hard copy, not too sure about streaming services

There must be something wrong with me whenever I hear someone say this this is most Disturbing movie this that means I have to watch it 😂 I hope this lives up to the hype I heard it comes out on May 19th so I'll be looking for it with anticipation 😉
I hope you enjoy it! It's a very, very, darkly funny and cruel af film
I watched it tonight... I'll never be the same. And I didn't laugh much....😢

Watched this over the weekend!! Great recomendion!
So great to see something from another 'The Living and the Dead' fan! 😀I watched it for the first time when I was 14 and it definitely made an impression. I also highly recommend 'The Fall,' if you want to see Leo Bill in a (fairly) major role.
Hey, thanks for watching - TLATD is a very special film to me! I do know The Fall but I'll have to re-watch as I ignorantly didn't notice Leo Bill. Seen him in Taboo though and nearly lost my sh*t Thank you for watching.
Can't wait to see this!!!

Thanks for your job ! As uruguayan i grew with they story. I remember My mom crying beside the Christmas tree ando saying thanks You God. Greetings from Uruguay 🇺🇾🤗
FORGOTTEN is a must see for fans of psychological thrillers. NIGHT IN PARADISE is just a really great gangster noir thriller. BELIEVER and BELIEVER 2 are awesome flicks. THE CALL is a brain twisting horror gem. I'm a huge fan of the Joseon era zombie series Kingdom and KINGDOM: ASHIN OF THE NORTH. Great stuff. ALIVE is yet another example of South Korea doing zombies right. 😁
Happy new year to Moviehooker an chatters 😊
Happy new year!! Bro thanks for the support!
I've seen them all except for The Chase and Drug King. It's a shame about the stigma of drug use in South Korea and how the media and police can ruin a celebrity's career. Speaking of Lee Sun-kyun, he also stars in another Netflix movie called Jo Pil-ho: The Dawning Rage, which is a crime thriller where he plays a corrupt cop, and he is really great. One of his criminal associates gets killed, which sends him down a rabbit hole uncovering higher and deeper corruption. He plays the crooked cop, who is a cynical wiseguy with an attitude and gets into predicaments with a lot of twists and turns. Great flick. Lee Sun-kyun R.I.P.
Aw man, I never knew he was in that. I remember starting it but back on the list goes! Thanks for watching, man!
I'm actually gutted over Sun-kyun and even more gutted that weed was the "drug" mentioned in the article before any other drugs...shocking, man. I only hope his death will prevent others
Definitely checking this out man, 😜
This is going into Sundance 2024. Could be 2025 before we we it released Check out the others I mentioned, The Revenants, Glitch, The Returned and The Cured
I am from norway and they have made a norwigean movie - but this movie has no zombie flesh eater. It`s more about a drama, horror my guess. I think sounds great. Gonna watch it in norway this Friday on release day
@@thinking2much332 awesome! Let me know what you think! Other similar titles include GLITCH (AUSTRALIA) LES REVENANTS (FRANCE) THE RETURNED (UK - REMAKE OF REVENANTS) THE CURED (IRELAND)

Oh an switchblade romance is a great watch 😊 for those who aint seen it, get on it.
Am fecking laughing at you trying to control the language man 😂
I have to give my self 10 whips on the back tonight 🤣
The thing I'm most skeptical about is the translation of cultural norms. I enjoyed the original because it was a darkly hilarious commentary on Scandinavian stereotypes. I just don't see how that sense of cringe can adapt smoothly to a setting outside northern Europe.
It'll be interesting to see for sure. I get what you're saying, and I wish a lot of others had your view, too. Im up for a remake, but it's gotta be its own thing, too.
Look forward to seeing them, Baghead 😂
Fight, Flight or as the danes did: Freeze.
I loved that about the movie. Pissed so many ppl off, but it was refreshing
I'm very sceptical about the remake having the right feel. It could easily loose much of the impact it had watching it if it turn into a slasher. It's not the violence in the original that make it horrible, it's everything around it. I don't know the exact amount of time but I would be surprised if there's more than 1-2 minutes of violence in total in the original. Ffs, THE scene is like 10 seconds in total.
Agreed, it's pure psychological. I want the remake to stay true to the original but explore the killers way more. I felt there was so much unused potential in there. Enough to make it its own movie.
@@moviehookerdefinitely a good way of doing it. As long as it's a re-imagination in sted if a [shot for shot] remake I don't mind at all. I just suspect it's going to be the same as the original but slightly worse and much more obvious. Btw, have you seen the director's promotion video for the movie, he reads comments from the test audience. Its AMAZING
@uncommonman don't think I've seen it. I'll check it out. I've watched loads of interviews, though.
Oh man, Eden Lake, Haven't seen that in years. Tomorrow nights viewing 😊
Re-watched it last night, man. Still holds up. You really wanna slap Jack O'Connell's character lol. Plus, nit saying these two deserved what they got, but theu defo helped the kids by killing the dog etc.
Talk to me was made by CZcamsrs ? If a remember right. Great movie.
Yeah man, it sure was! Sorry, only seeing this now dude.
French films are awsome
They certainly are! Loads of great ones this year too!
Do you still remember Kingdom of the Spiders with William Shatner from 1977 😂😂??
Haha I do now that you mention it. I can't remember seeing it though
Sounds fucked, 😂 Hopefully get to see it.
Saw this recently & it was absolutely chilling . literally felt cold , bleak, & alien to me . I felt so bad for the kid & the way he was forced to live as Michael’s captive in that soundproof basement. We obviously don’t know for how long, but based on the number of letters, it had to of been a year..possibly more. I appreciate that the Director kept away any really gruesome some scenes involving him & everything was implied. The ending leaves you on such a point of tension after those final events, you hope & pray that at least the family were decent people.
No name
Kids v aliens hahaha am game
