    DJ LeMahieu wanted to play four more seasons, but Cashman insisted on six seasons. 2024 is his fourth season after signing his contract extension. DJ will have been paid 4 x $15 M = $60 M with $30 M still owed to him. DJ had wanted 4 x $25 M = $100 M so initially, Cashman saved $10 M. If DJ is unable to play effectively ever again, DFA him just like the Astros did with Jose Abreu with some $33 M still owed to him. Aaron Hicks was also DFAed with $33 M owed to him.

    Not a single productive bat off the bench this entire season, when everyone was healthy, now that Stanton and Rizzo are on the IL, the lineup has only 3 professional hitters on the team, so why would you pitch to team. The Yankees have been trying to make Vertigo into something he is not, He has never been a productive RBI man, he is a 40 RBI per season guy, and having him bat 4th or 5th in the lineup is ridiculous.

They must figure out which key players they need, on a trade, to stop the bleeding. Here is what they need: SP, a closer, 2-bats (help generate run after Judge&Soto), and a catcher. Judge has been surrounded by guys like Joey Gallo, Luke Voigt, Glyber Torres, Gary Sanchez, Clint Frazier, The bench players are guys nobody has ever heard of. It took the Yankees 8 years into Judges career before they finally got another great player to pair with him.

    Jeter has the better career and it isn't up for legit debate. But then again, Judge has him on pure talent on a baseball field, and that isn't up for legit debate either. Judge is the most talented lifetime Yankee position player since Mantle. And I'm speaking solely of talent, nothing else. Jeter was a talented ballplayer, but he was never considered the best player, or even shortstop in the league. There were always guys who hit better. That's not true with Judge. He literally has no peers right now when it comes to hitting. He's just on a different level from everyone else. Now if the question is best Yankee, no debate, it is Jeter. He's a top 7 Yankee all time at worst. Only ones I definitively put over him are Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio and Mantle, with Berra at number 5 for me.

    Also to answer Don's question - Jeter's 162 game average for WAR was 4.2 - Judge's is 8.4. Obviously this is including Jeter's later years which Judge hasn't had yet. Jeter's best WAR season was 8.0 - Judge's so far was 10.5, with a chance to have an even higher one this year as he is already at 6.0 on July 1st. In my opinion Judge is a much better player than Jeter, but at the very least one has to acknowledge that it is at least close.

  • @danielk9067
    @danielk9067 Před 4 dny

    I was born in very early 1994 - by the time I was aware of baseball and the Yankees, the Yankees dynasty of the late 90's was underway as were the hall of fame careers of Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, as well as A-Rod and other key Yankees of the past 30 years. I missed Mattingly almost entirely and I obviously never saw Reggie, Mantle, or any other all timers like that play. That being said, Aaron Judge is easily the best Yankees player I have ever seen in my lifetime (talking about pure baseball ability, rings and opportunities aside). I absolutely adore Derek Jeter, he is my hero. But Judge is a better fielder, as good of a hitter, and by far without any comparison more powerful. He will certainly eclipse Jeter's home run and RBI totals by the time his career is over, whether he plays nearly as many games as Jeter did or not. He has hit 62 home runs in a single season and is on track for his 3rd 50 home run season. We are talking more home runs in a season than Babe Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, Mantle, Maris, Jackson, or A-Rod ever hit. He is as good as some of the all-time great players in terms of baseball ability. The only question marks, as said in the video, are the postseason successes and longevity. If Judge wins a ring or more he will certainly join the conversation of all-time greatest Yankees. However, even if his career were to end right now I would still consider him the best baseball player the Yankees have had since I was born.

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson Před 4 dny

      Judge is the most talented lifetime Yankee position player since Mantle. I saw almost all of Mattinglys career, and but for injury he may very well have gone down as a top 50 player. Judge however, my lord. I don't know how many people understand how historically great he is. He's 12th all time in OPS, 10th in Slugging, 2nd in AB/HR. The black ink test for HOF has the average HOF player at 25 points. Judge has 38, and that doesn't include the dozen or so points he gains if everything stays like it is at the end of the year. (Black Ink Test gives points, scaled according to level of stat, for every time a player leads the league in a statistical category, ie: 4 points for HR title, 3 points for Runs Scored title, etc.) He has the 27th highest JAWS for right fielders in history in like 915 or so games. His 7 year peak already exceeds the HOF average for right fielders and it is going to get even better once this season replaces his 2017 season... That's how great he's been, removing perhaps the greatest rookie season anyone ever had, actually makes Judges peak look better.

      @@snerdterguson Right on brother! I saw your reply to another comment of mine too. You get it. This guy is at least generationally great and is doing things that only a few players on any team have ever done before. The love and nostalgia for Jeter is real, and understandable, and I feel it too, but objectively our current captain is so mind-boggingly talented it should be plain and obvious to see that he will go down as an all-time great baseball player. The only reason we even have to qualify his accomplishments as being a great "Yankee" is because the all-time greatest players we are comparing him to were also Yankees. But he is among the greatest at what he does from any team in the league. If he continues to play like this through the end of his contract he will be a first ballot hall of famer for sure.

Jeter and Judge are complimentary players ~ they would have been great on the same team.... If the Yanks get Soto Judge's last 7 years in stripes could be his best numbers wise....and of course he has stay on the field. Judge's offensive impact is far more robust than Derek's but character wise they are twins from different parents...

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson Před 4 dny

      I disagree, the question isn't who had the better career, it is who is the better ballplayer. And Judge is blatantly the better of the two at playing baseball. Jeters greatness came from playing way beyond his actual talent. He was really something to watch, because he didn't have great range... And yet, time after time I would see him make plays that no other shortstop was making. Jeter is my second favorite Yankee, after Bernie Williams, but Judge is a much better player, and the stats all bear that out. Better hitter, at least equal as a fielder. Jeters got him on the bases, not the fastest, but he was one of the best base runners I ever saw. Judge is just on a historic level, a level shared by Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams.

      Jeter and his defense will probably be the most controversial subject on his career forever. Yes, he has five gold glove awards but very few of the statistical analysis. I have read believe he deserved any of them. Aaron Judge is definitely a plus outfielder. There’s no question about that.

    • @dbreiden83080
      @dbreiden83080 Před 4 dny

      Well, it’s true. Aaron Judge won’t have some of those longevity stats his individual seasons absolute dwarf anything Derek ever did and that’s not even close. 62. Home runs while hitting 311 damn near winning a triple crown. He might win the triple crown this season. If he stays healthy

    • @danielk9067
      @danielk9067 Před 4 dny

      And Jeter will never hit 30 home runs in a season, let alone 40, 50, or 60. He never had an OPS even close to Judge's best season OPS. In fact - Jeter had only 2 seasons in which his OPS was .900 or higher. Judge so far has only had 1 full season with an OPS lower than .900. It's usually at or above 1.000 which is elite MVP level. I love both of them - I love Jeter the most for obvious reasons, but this is a closer argument than people are making it out to be.

      Only nuff said if you think baseball is just total hits, average and how many subjective awards you've won. Of course he won't have the hits. He started 4 years older than Jeter. Even if he had no injuries and played to the same age Jeter did, he wouldn't be able to catch up without batting like .360 or something for his career. Judge also gets walked far more, so he has fewer ABs every year than Jeter did. On gold gloves, Judge absolutely should have won one in 2022. He was incredible that year. And Jeter probably shouldn't have won 4. On batting .300, it is a different game. Jeters era was easier by far to hit in. That's why there would be a whole slew of .300 hitters. In this era, there's like 10 or 12. But Judge has been one of the few hitting to that level. He will end up with a .280-.290 average, which would be the equivalent of batting .300-.310 a couple decades ago. Some things you might want to consider are Judge being 10th all time in slugging, 12th in OPS and averaging twice the WAR/162 Jeter did.

    Judge can carry a team offensively, that is something Jeter could never do, but Judge has major flaws in his swing and plate coverage, both of which are readily exposed and taken advantage of by quality pitchers in the post-season. Jeter put the bat on ball, was more of a contact hitter than is Judge, so if there is a close game, Yankees down one run, with a man is scoring position, I would prefer Jeter over Judge to come to the plate in that situation every day. Judge is on pace to hit close to 60 HR, have 130+ rbi's, and strike-out 185-200 times this season. The majority of Judges rbi's come via the home-run, wherein Jeter's while not an big RBI man, produced his with singles and doubles,

      @@snerdterguson While Judge is having an excellent season to date, absent March and April, during which he was God awful, he still has not made the necessary adjustment to hit anything below his waist, and that is what pitchers in the postseason will give him a steady diet of. He is on pace to strike-out 185-200 times, unless an injury prevents him from getting 600 at bats. Of course injuries to guys like Judge, Stanton, DJ are the probability, not the exception, almost a guarantee to manifest at some point during a long season. The problem with the Yankees, being their offense is almost totally predicated on a productive Judge, if he doesn't hit, the team doesn't score on most evenings. Soto has been a huge plus. Soto is the better hitter, because he makes contact more than Judge, has fewer dead zones and cold spots within the strike zone compared to Judge, while still hitting for power. If I could have only one of the two, I would take Soto as the hitter. Judge is the better defensive player. In reality, 1/3 of Judges at bats are completely non-productive. He compensates for that glaring deficiency by being very productive in his remaining 66% at bats.

    Jeter is the most iconic player of my lifetime. He’s the man. No one comes close

    Jeter wasn’t even the best offensive shortstop as A Rod and Nomar was always loved more. Jeter post season was out of this world. Too many clutch and iconic moment.

      Nomar when you take a deep dive into his career, didn’t really have that many great seasons. He was basically 30 years old and washed up. Alex Rodriguez it’s tough to gauge his career because we know he was likely abusing steroids for damn near all of it.

    Haven't watched Judge hit in the playoffs huh Don. He's atrocious in the playoffs.

      Being a leadoff man helped jeter. Jeter had a lot more talent surrounding him. In the playoffs all you gotta do is not pitch to judge and everyone else won’t hurt ya

      @@clemersmonroe5183 BS logic cause Judge would get more walks in that case not more strikeouts. He hit .139 in the postseason of his MVP season bro. He was like the worst player on the team. Lol.

      Jeter was also on stacked teams for most of his career, judge has had to put the Yankees on his back.

      This is absolutely true especially in recent years. Those Yankee teams from 1996 until 2001 are some of the greatest baseball teams of all time. After that, Jeter reached the World Series in 2003 and 2009 but only won it in 2009. So after that initial huge run in his youth the Yankees only managed to win one championship. Everybody thought with Alex, Rodriguez, and Jeter playing together in their primes They would win multiple titles. It didn’t happen.

    As a Red Sox fan, Verdugo is giving the Yankees exactly what they signed. He's an average player overall, in fact he is playing below average at the moment. He's OK in the field, but he has never lived up to expectations at the plate. He's been steadily declining for the past 4 years and the Red Sox saw this. He is a better option than what the Yankees had last year, but to have a .704 OPS when half your games are played at a park taylor made for lefties, is underachieving.
