Dryer Vent Cleaning from The Rogers Group SC
The drywall of the wall on the opposite side from our dryer started bowing out. My husband researched how to fix it. He just happened to start the process when the dryer was in use and noticed that the wall was warm. He pulled the dryer out to investigate. The vent was completely blocked, of course, but was also loose. While he was trying to figure out how to reattach it, the entire 6 inch section came out of the wall. Long story short, he ended up taking out a panel of the Sheetrock to find that the builder hadn’t connected the dryer duct to the outside at all. They had just vented it into the space between the studs. The lint filled the space for about two feet up the wall with more bunches in various places up to where it “joined” the duct that ran through the attic to the outside vent. An inspection of the attic proved that there was lint there as well. Needless to say he cleaned out all the lint, added a proper duct and actually connected it all together. No surprise that our dryer miraculously began working more efficiently and the wall was no longer warm. This could have been a tragedy. A house in the neighborhood DID have a dryer fire that ended up burning the it down. The family had started the dryer and left. By the time neighbors were aware there was a fire, it was through the roof and blowing out windows. (I no longer put clothes in to dry and leave the house.)
@MamaJLW that's a scary situation. Glad yall figured it out.
Rav4 2011 4wd, keyless button starter with backup camera and GPS built in. Moms hits a pothole on front driver side says it was about a 6/7-10 scale of scary. OBII says it is a code P0705 Not a car guy. Symptom: When starting car, the digital dash shows in in park (P) with back cam showing and reverse highlighted as well , even though it is in (P). Even when driving it sometimes shows on reverse with back cam active. Auto-LSD is blinking nonestop with the Check Engine light. Sometimes - the push button is lighting green when the car is off but when pressed to start car it is no longer green. It is suppose to be the other way around I think. I checked the Neutral Switch it seems fine. I haven't taken it off yet it was a pain for me to locate. It was below the battery and I had to access it from under the car. I replugged all of the connectors. The car drives normally, nothings is amiss besides the gear and the dashboard+back cam not aligning properly. No leak, all the gears are smooth changing from PRNDL. I hope to have individuals with similar or knowledge of this problem to connect with me. My mom is the only one working and supporting the house and I want to do my part to help her to be able to do it. Thanks

Similar on a 2010, but NSS is rotated 90 degrees... Looking tricky. I'm trying from the wheel well, not sure yet if it will work
It should
@@ChristopherWRogers got it! However it turns out the switch was fine. I had a wiring problem with the tail lights and backuplights being connected of all things 😂
I have question my issue was with bleeding brakes on 2005 toyota Sienna so i did that nd go to start it nd starts right up but. Then when i go to put it in reverse i cant take it outta park to reverse wat can be problem?
Could be something with your shift cable or gear shift. Not sure honestly
Any tips on LLC names?
Really just depends. I didn't put appliances in mine because I knew I would branch out. In South Carolina there is a website that you can check to see what names are available
I appreciate you choose to lay something on the ground, Good luck with your endeavor.
Thank you.
How you advertise your business?
I signed up with home warranty companies. They send work orders to me. Also I reached out to property management companies as well. Facebook is a great free option
Hi Christopher, where do you buy your replacement parts?
I go to a local shop in South carolina, but Marcone and encompass are some good ones from what I've heard.
Love this! So very satisfying
I appreciate you watching.
Where do you go for tech support ?
Just depends on what's needed. Each manufacturer has it and the instructor is good about answering the phone
I went to ABC as well in Feb 2020. I was in the 1st class in the new facility.
I was at the same class.
@@ChristopherWRogers that's what's up. I knew you looked familiar. How is everything going?
@@appliancedude63 blessed no complaints. How are things on your side.
@@ChristopherWRogers pretty good. I'm just starting to do sealed system work.

I appreciate that. ABC helped change my life.
did you feel like you were prepared coming out of boot camp? I am very handy but apprehensive about jumping out there because i have never done appliances. I've beed doing handyman work for many years but never appliances and want to go full time. any thoughts?
The boot camp teaches alot of the basics but as with everything you have to prepare depending on the Job. He does teach you how to start the business and get that part right. I would recommend when you start to sign up with warranty companies. You won't have to market your company they send you the work.
It's a good dive Into the business. It would be impossible to learn everything needed in that short of a time but I would recommend attending. The help afterwards from everyone associated with The boot camp is phenomenal
What warranty companies do you recommend? I’m in the Phoenix metro area.
@@jayjones7341 I've only worked with a couple here in South Carolina. I've heard good things about old Republic home warranty and also American home shield. The one I work with the most in South Carolina is choice home warranty but a lot of people don't like doing business with them.
It might be wise to be a bit more gentle with this type of rod. They can break off inside the tube. You sure don't want that to happen.
Unfortunately I've had get stuck before but with these they are fiberglass type material and pretty durable
I have a 2001 sienna, this looks to be the same engine,,Im having problems ,back up lights not working, bulbs new and fuse is good , Ive heard the neutral safety switch takes the place of a back up light switch and could be my problem, but no check engine light,,please tell your view on this, on the other hand it does start in park and neutral so thats all working
This could be your problem. My symptoms were different but I've heard those same ones you're having and this fixed it.
Haci no se hace ese trabajo
Thanks for the video! I’m looking to find an online course to take currently. Does appliance bootcamp offer an online course? I couldn’t find it on their site.
They did at one point. I'm not sure. I'll check to see if there is an online course. I'll get you the info
Thanx man! I took the ABC BOOTCAMP ONLINE AND IM IN THE PROCESS ID SEEKING OUT 3P warranty companies! I have very little experience Repairing appliances but I’m about to go all in while I work this full time job! I’ll do some Appliances on weekend and nights cuz I want to quit this job and go full time! Your story was inspiring and I will continue to follow
I really appreciate your kind words. The appliance repair industry is truly life changing. Let me know if you need any help.
Is it true that this part also serves to light up the reverse lights? My bulbs are good and no blown fuses.
It may be one of the issues. If tye vehicle doesn't think it's in reverse they probably won't light up
Bro. I got one for my Camry on Amazon for $40. I said hell no to $260 for that small ass part.
I found a few for cheaper but I needed it that day. That vehicle was my work vehicle at the time.
Just wondering would it be about as easy to take the vent out and clean it ?
With these it would not. This particular one is pvc and I'm not bale to remove it. You can remove just the vent from the dryer but you would still need to clean the pipe exiting the home
@@ChristopherWRogers thank you for posting that tool ..and its reminds me of about that time..
My arm (2:20 the part you took off the shaft) that goes on the control shaft seems to be stuck on with rust and gunk, any idea on how to get it off without breaking the shaft?
You can use some type of lubricant but on mine I had to pry it off carefully
@@ChristopherWRogers Thanks for the quick reply man.
PB spray and HEAT from a blow dryer is what got mine off.
@@Akx2515 Alright cool, that's actually what I was planning this weekend when it stops raining, PB blaster and a heat gun. It's good to know that's not a dumb idea lol.
What is that thing called love to get 1 so I can clean mine Love the videos thank you for the information
I appreciate your kind words. It's called lint eater. You can get it from lowes or online as well.
@@ChristopherWRogers Thank you so much
@@pamelac2863 my pleasure
Gross but oddly satisfying to watch it get cleaned. 🙈
Yes sir.
Bet the dryer works better
Like brand new
Homeowner is lucky their home didn't burn down due to this
Agreed. They actually bought a new dryer because they thought it was bad.
I really like using the sight sticks here. But I prefer to use the air hose with the ball of holes at the end.by god man that was a fire waiting to happen. U saved a life. Maybe I'll do both methods.
I've been looking at buying that style. I'll probably invest in that 2023
I purchased one of these kits and used it to clean my dryer vent for the first time in 15 years. I didn’t hardly get any lint. Used a flashlight to look in and it’s clean. I always clean the dryer lint trap in the dryer after every load.
Some people get lucky that way. I've had a few that were clean
This is why you as a homeowner should take the bit of extra time to install rigid pvc. Don't be the lazy ass who installs the weak flexible duct. You can actually clean the pvc without tearing it apart.
Agree
I use that link to make firestarters
I cleaned out the dryer vents when we moved into this house about three years ago because the dryer was taking forever to dry. The brush kept catching on something, so I changed to the metal reamer attachment, then found a squirrel nest and another dryer vent brush stuck way up in there. No wonder it was getting clogged and not drying!
I've had a few of them as well
This is what is wrong with my dryer right now I asked To Rooter to do that I was told they can't I live by myself an I'm disabled I have lived in my house for 25 years my dryer I had to get a apartment dryer box you add water to so my dryer will work
Usually if you look online or Facebook you can find someone local that can assist.
Would suggest having a blower or the dryer on so that it pushes the loose debris out while the brush is running.
That is the way I do it if at all possible. It does help push everything out.
As a gas technician if that’s a gas dryer you’re lucky to be alive clean the lint shield every load that wasn’t happening hear
It's electric. Fortunately in South Carolina most are electric
Fire the camera person.
That was the home owners son.
Wow, dryer vent, really. Good job!
Thank you
What tool and where do we get it, please. I cleaned my bubby's dryer vent out with a leaf blower and it helped tremendously. Blew it out from inside to put, but I don't think it was this long of a run I searched for this kind of tool, but HF & HD were out of stock of anything similar..
It's called lint eater. Got mine from lowes. Amazon has it as well
@@ChristopherWRogers Thanks for the quick response. That looked like 6 sections at 5 or 6 ft long... Nice rig. I'll look for one tomorrow at the dreaded Blue store...
@@frankrosemeck9898 the kit I have each rod is 3 feet long. You may need to buy extra rods depending upon your vent length
How many years of lint is that?
They lived there around 20 years and never had it done
Not very good camera work
I had the customers son recording
Why would you have that dryer vent so low to the ground?
Unfortunately when the house was built that's where they put it. I've had quite a few like that.
@@ChristopherWRogers I’m just saying living in a cold climate with snow that’s dangerous, but if your used to that then it’s all good.
@@chosenwon5618 here in the south I've had snakes birds and rodents in especially when they are that low. Unfortunately of the customer has a slab foundation there's nothing I can do to change it.
You would be Amazed at how many homes have the dryer vent right next to the A/C unit. I have Never seen so much lint trapped in a pipe before. A Lot of homes have them vent Under the house. That pile at the end of the video is what it looks like underneath the house in those cases.
Agreed. I see that alot as well.
@@ChristopherWRogers When they vent under the house they are BUILDING a fire hazard. Not to mention that it is really CREEPY to crawl around in dryer lint. But HOW do I keep finding earrings under there ? HOW do they make it through the dryer ?
@@c.blakerockhart1128 I've had small tools and other crazy objects make it through.
@@ChristopherWRogers yeah. I've found small screws, screwdriver, and coins. But mostly earrings. I found a 1karat pendant earring that the homeowner had lost nearly 5 years earlier. She said that set cost her husband $2000 . She was really happy to get it back. He had died the year before I found it. But it IS weird that something that size can make it all the way through a dryer.
Just use a leaf blower, and quit playing around.
That's a good idea but it doesn't always work.
So that's where all my clothes went!
Mostly socks
Are they just feeding the vent this crap from the other side ?
They never thought about having it cleaned. This is my friend's parents house. It was so bad that they bought a new dryer thinking it was not working.
Nice quality drill
I've upgraded since. Actually bought that in a storage unit
@@ChristopherWRogers just busting balls, great work! Merry Christmas!
@@magablocks687 merry Christmas to you as well.
I was waiting for him to drag a Chinaman out of there ! 😑 🙏
This was one of the worst I've had. Posting one today. Be on the lookout for it.
Not real because that would have been caught on fire by now
Most cases that is true. This dryer was changed out with a new one. The dryer itself didn't have the lint built up the vent did.
PSG
There wasn’t anything wrong with the old dryer, it was just a clogged duct. I use the same dryer cleaning kit for mine.
People usually think when it takes longer to dry the dryer has an issue but in actuality it's usually the vent
