Gracie's Back '23 part 2
Lot's going on since I splashed Gracie in the summer of '23. Her engine is running well and her sails are doing their jobs. Friends and family surround me and I am so blessed!

Friendship Sloop Regatta Southwest Harbor 2024

This group of eager sailors and casual racers of Friendship Sloops had a quirky but elegant day in the Great Harbor. A delayed start, unexpected cannon salute and very light winds had us all guessing. But as good friendships do, they moved on and dubbed around in boats. THANK YOU SO MUCH, Shane, for lending your boat, Steve for runnin' the race, and Caroline for puttin' it all together!

Pauline's Senior Exhibition 2015

In 2015 Pauline focused her MDIHS Senior Exhibition on her experience working with children at a series of local daycare centers. While she worked toward her diploma at MDIHS she also studied early childhood development at Hancock County Technical Center in Ellsworth. Pauline has represented our school community well and we are so proud of her accomplishments!
Dylan Scuba Certification 2011

Dylan used her MDIHS Senior Exhibition grant to earn a SCUBA certification with Diver Ed and Edna. They rehearsed in a heated pool and begin the open water dives off Seal Harbor in December.. brrrrrrr! Dylan made her final open water dives in at Mount Desert Rock. Again, I was a very proud dad!
Bailey Scuba Certification 2013

My son's Senior Exhibition Project (required for graduation from MDIHS) was to work with local power-couple Diver Ed and Edna and earn his SCUBA certification. Bailey earned his stripes in the frigid waters of Somes Sound in mid February. I was a very proud dad.

In 2013 former MDIHS Wood Tech teacher Bruce Munger and a motivated group of novice carpenters constructed the walls and partitions of an entire home for a very deserving local family. I had the honor to witness the family's first reactions to seeing the mockup of their new home in the school parking lot.

Senior Flextime Bonfire class of 2023

This motley group of Seniors were wrapping up the most challenging four years of high school I've ever experienced. Their freshman year was disrupted in April and their school culture was compromised forever. We burned COVID in effigy as we enjoyed a surprise breakfast of doughnuts and juice. I love these people!

COVID 2020 The school was empty and creepy. I got permission to run around the building without a mask. I hoped to inspire my painting students remotely. It appeared to work for most of them and here was a lot of wicked good painting going on around the Island!

A fine boat, and a great voyage. I've done a similar route, from Oyster Bay to Portland, also through the Canal. You also illustrated the affection and respect that develops among the crew on such a voyage. To do it on a Hinkley must have been a wonderful experience. Thanks for sharing it.
