OMG i just had a lovely surprise Tricia’s voice is amazing to listen, love her to bits xx
I grew up on Bedford Road in the 80's just over the road from Lukes. Been searching for a photo of my old home for years and in every pic I find of Bedford Road, it's just out of shot! Great pics though and thanks for sharing.
Hello Paul, I was born in Railway road in 54 left the wirral in 75 but find my self back again nearly 50 years later, the admiral pub at the bottom of Bedford road is now a very successful restaurant reverted back to its original name, ( refreshment rooms ). As I remember opposite Luke’s were shops and martins bank on the corner, pet shop, tv repair shop, cafe / restaurant directly opposite, I will keep an eye out for any interesting photos that may come up, take care Fred
@@fredsalem4568 Hey Fred, thanks for getting in touch. I lived on the corner of Bedford & Railway above the shop, front door was in Railway Rd as I'm sure you know. I was there from 81 till early 90's. Live in Hampshire now and haven't been back for a long time but I do keep checking up on the place and seeing how it all is, plus I still have family there obviously, my Grandfather and Nan lived on Chatham Rd. I've always been fascinated by the local Victorian & Edwardian history of the place and would love to see what my old place looked like then. Be well!
Two great amateur boxers from Rock Ferry. Peter McCann and Robbie Davies. Both ABA Champions..
Another good boxer Timmy mc Hugh
@@fredsalem4568 Hi Fred, I think Tim beat Robbie Davies when they were both amateurs. He must have outboxed him , don’t think he had Robbie’s punching power. I remember having a drink with him when he lived near Woodside /Hamilton Square area. A nice bloke. It was very unusual to have two ABA champs from such a small area as Rock Ferry. It wasn’t easy to win those titles during that era.
@@lthompson7625 yes your right, I was there Robbie never laid a glove on him, which was unusual for Robbie as he didn’t mind taking 2 or 3 just to get one of his bombs in lol Tim was defo a top boxer.
My dad worked in the Lord Raglan, we had the New Inn, on the other corner.
Used to walk from New Ferry along the Mersey to Rock Ferry in the 50s as a kid...
We used to do this
These photos are wonderful. I was born in Romally Street in 52 takes me back to my childhood .i wish my mum was still here to see them
This is good thanks. My mom was from Rock Ferry. My dad worked at Crosville back in the 60s. Unfortunately I don’t recall to much of this area only been there a couple of times. my parents emigrated before I was born.
Great video I love the music. I never knew Thornton Hough had tennis courts and I drive through there a lot.
Looks different now

He was a big character and made everyone smile who met him,'which was most people in Birkenhead due to his job of being on buses everyday.. How times have changed!!. It's so sad really that it had to turn into a horrible place How the heroin changed this town. I hope that one day money is injected into the town and the people get to be happy once again.. That woman crossing the street on Grange road could even be my aunty Ada..she lived just round the corner. She had the head scarf and the coat and a trolley. She too lived on oxton road in claredon close. The pubs where always heaving and there was a much warmer vibe then to now. Ghosts of the past!!!!! I remember the orange 🍊🍊🍊 lodge walks every week and my granny would say "shut that door son to keep the proddydogs out lol.. RIp violet Sheldon.my gran. Tommy Sheldon Grandad. Love the 60 years on at the Bedford. Good work.
I have such lovely memories of Port Sunlight. I worked there from the time I left Rock Ferry High School 1979 for two months before Sheffield Uni Sadly the school no longer existis. Lovely time I had in RFHS with our wonderful. WONDERFUL Teachers. Great memories and thank you Soooo much However I worked in Sunlight as a guy that put the soap into the vats to be turned into Imperial Lather Omo or Persil ! In the time I worked there I was able to buy an old BSA Gold Star wh was very second hand and through life I always lusted after that bike again and eventually bought a 1953 BB500 about ten years ago wh brings back memories. Being the age it is I have had to deal with the problems of old age as I have I went to the Museum with a mate of mine who worked there for 10 y and didn’t know it existed. I showed him the 50 y between. Y first and last entries there on the register. Wonderful memories now that I’m entering my dotage Cheers to you all Carpe Diem Ralph Parsons
I like this and I live in rock ferry
Lived in the prefabs ( 29 Ludlow Road ) 50’s & 60’s . Happy days,we had nothing but neither did anybody else but great community spirit.
Great collection of photos. I live on wirral now (from Liverpool) work at stagecoach so great to see crossville depot and surrounding areas.
Well done. Very enjoyable.
Thank you Fred. I enjoyed walking the old paths.
Wonderful. My parents grew up in this area and they always talked about some of these things that i have never seen. Some of them i know from being a young boy visiting relatives there. I went back a number of years and so many of the rows of terraced houses by the train tracks had been knocked down including where my auntie lived who used to have a shop on Rochester Road. It made me sad xx but thank you for this collection
we lived in the pre fabs number 18 great crowd of people many happy times
Yeah my mum was in the prefabs too. They where built for after the war I was told. I spent first 4 years of life in brougham Street.
my first home was 36 Rockville street, grandad drank in rockville pub.1950's
Nice collection of photographs, the varied eras add to the mix. Thank you.
