Scots College Haka to farewell Miss Lewis
zhlédnutí 221KPřed 10 lety
Some of the boys from Scots College do the School Haka, followed by the 1st XV Haka to farewell their teacher Miss Lewis.
Must of been one heck of a lady. God bless her and all of you.
Obviously...Miss Lewis is loved, respected and honored and she will be terribly missed. This HAKA is a beautiful 'send off'.
Respect!
R E S P E C T! GIVEN, THANKYOU MISS LEWIS, AND THANKYOU HER BOYS!
R.I.P Miss Lewis, 1946-2013.
What is so sad is that nothing is left but a conquered ppl wearing their masters uniform on their backs and performing a once mighty war ritual on the tarmac... Christ it’s dire.
🤔🤔🤔
Does the HAKA scare the opponent? Is this the meaning of the ceremony? I don't know, that's why I'm asking!
I’m also super curious! So I am about to research everything Haka
I HOPE THAT I HAVE A HAKA PERFORMED FOR ME WHEN i DIE!
SEE THIS IS WHAT IS FUNDAMENTALLY WRONG IN THE USA. NO TRADITIONS, ANYMORE. NO HONOR. NO LOYALTY. NO FAMILY TIES. NOTHING BUT $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. GUNS AND CHILD ABUSE, DRUGS. NOTHING ELSE. OH, AND US GOVT. WELFARE!
Toxic Masculinity?
Females also perform the Aka. is that all you got from watching and listening to that? Shame.
Wish students in us had this much consideration for tradition and love of tradition..... so sad to see what has been done to our youth!!!!! Will be the ruination of America, if not stopped.
Beautiful
Beautiful
This sends shiveres up my spine every time
Those young men with so much respect, too much young fellas
That hearse has carried so many good people.
She has touched many lives, rest in peace!
📓✍️🙋🙋
fvck you gooooood
Amazing how they combine cultures...
The white Paheka people seem to get involved in most of the Hakas I've seen, as much as the Maori people.
RESPECT TOO THE MAORIS FROM HELLAS
I held it together till they started singing and clapping, lost it.
Amazing! Came on this by accident have tears in my eyes and a shiver down my spine when they sing Jerusalem!!
Wish students in US schools did something like this on special occasions or at their sports events!! Shows such spirit and respect not only for the occasion but also for each other and their community!!!! Very inspiring!!!
This a very Pacific tradition, particular to Maori who are tangagta whenua [people of the land] in New Zealand.
A high school near me in North Central Texas has a large number on Tongan boys on the football team. A few years ago, they did their first haka at another team's stadium. It scared the heck out of the opposing team. They still do it every week. Probably won't happen in 2020.
Rick Bivins I truly hope they continue the tradition! I wish this was done all over Texas, it would make pregame more exciting and inspiring for everyone and GOD knows kids need more inspiration these days with all the covid 19 and having to forgo so many activities both at home and school. 2020 has been very hard on all students.
That was a funeral, not a sporting event. That big black car is a hearse. The song at the end was "Jerusalem," a classic Anglican hymn.
@@karenmx6314 A beautiful coming together of respect for two cultures. So sad that this wasn't common in other colonisations.
This transmission isn't under your blanket anymore. I am spewing it on your face like 70's money shot.
Frank, I am being pushed by the knife in my back. It has been there since birth. They dont see a person just a product. So I crammed a few high dollar crystalline piezoelectric harmonic nanoexplosives down their peeholes and butts. At some point in this experiment is a dickripping explosion of testicles or Butthole depending on variables Science can be fun.
hope you've gone to meet ya maker...
Crying out loud
#respect
Why did you speed this up?
Amazing show of respect ..rip
That was beautiful guys, i'm sure Miss Lewis Family would of been proud that her students thought so much of her. R.I.P Miss Lewis G.B.N.F
this is wonderful, well done to all of you. and well done Miss Lewis, whoever you are, you must have been a well loved person.
The only response i know WOW bloody hell what a send off nice one boys job well done big big respect to you all
damn ninja onions !
is any NZ people here who can explain what the haka means to his culture his country and at least for himself ?
DarkStarDKH I am not from there but as far as I know it is a battle cry and they also seem to do it on different occasions (like this or wedding) to show respect to someone
All haka are to show respect, be it for battle or otherwise. There are many, many different haka. As such a haka has a different meaning to someone depending on the situation and where it is in New Zealand that they come from.
Kia Ora, hello, irrespective of your ethnic origin in Aotearoa New Zealand, we grow up with Haka, learning or experiencing it, from our early childhood all the way through to adulthood. It is what unites us and other Polynesian countries as who we are. While we are not perfect with our with our performances, it is always appreciated and acknowledged for the effort. So wherever we are in the world a Maori waiata (song) or a haka pulls us together this is why it is so powerful. It is used in a multitude of differing situations, political events, social situations, welcoming or farewelling people to or from a place, in competitions such as inter-school events or performances and definitely at sports events. While our indigenous nation gave us the privilege of this gift we are not always mindful of the honour they have given us. Today one can no longer assume they know who is or isn’t a Maori as we have become so integrated the very fair skinned person standing next to you may be fiercely proud of who they are and whose shoulders they stand on. This is not peculiar to us their are many nations around the world that have similar customs or songs that unite them as one. Scotland, Ireland, Asians, the varying indigenous people of the America’s through to Europeans. However the difference has been our size, isolation and that colonisation was not successful in totally suppressing the Maori nation. We are grateful for that.
Haka. The maori ceremonial dance
Thank you so much for enlighten me!
very moving
XDDDDDDDDDDDDd
Miss Lewis must have been a very special lady RIP
You guys should watch the PNBHS one its way better
I wouldn't judge it in this sense. they're sending off a teacher obviously dear to the school. only voice opinions where opinions are due and/or appropriate
John Phillips I love that you intelligently and politely told the person with the thoughtless comment that what she or he said was rude and inappropriate.
MK Bacca Disrespectful
Both are good, but it doesnt change the meaning
My Bacca you must not know pal but each school has it's own haka. No one is better then the other. Your just a fucking clown you DISRESPECTFUL git
This is beyond beautiful.. I tried holding back the tears but I couldn't.. I hope to one day leave an impression as a teacher just like Mrs. Lewis
I hope you reach your ambition to be a school teacher..
What I love is that I saw teachers even doing it, so glad even they paid their respects with the students.
You certainly know how to send some one off!! You cant get more respectful than that! RIP
Very moving!
This is amazing James! Hope you'l do lots more covers haha :)
