I guess you could say 96 was the last great year of music. I used to say 95 but performances like these were still happening in 96. Except that the punk scene was pretty cool with the Warped Tour & Tony Hawk games in the late 90's/early 00's but mainstream rock was already dead.

I was at this show! I had just turned 14 and I loved Dave Grohl. I met him when he was walking around before Sky Cries Mary and he was so incredibly nice. Stood with me for the whole set and joked about trying to find me a paper bag because I was practically hyperventilating the excitement.

Absolutely brilliant Dave Grohl is a rock god.

I was there. I was standing next to Eddie Vedder's wife for awhile by the bar, had no idea who she was until she got on stage with Hovercraft. And everyone trying to figure out if it was Eddie on stage wearing a wig. I remember how nervous Grohl seemed! The whole show was great. Somehow I managed to see Foo Fighters multiple times for the first couple releases, including a show at Best Buy in Phoenix where they played in front of a wall of washing machines. Only got to see Nirvana once at Aragon Ballroom.

Your songs aren't that easy because you're not a genius.

I was there, what a night. Foos opened for Mike Watt, seen pictured above. Eddie Vedder played rhythm guitar and Growl played drums for Watt. Beasties came on for a tune and Evan Dando from the Lemonheads did as well. Crazy night.

This was an all ages show so I got to attend as a 14 year old. Hovercraft was an experimental side project of Eddie Vedder but he wore a disguise on stage so no one was sure if it was really him. Foo Fighters were the opening act because the first album was two months away from release. If there were songs were on the radio we hadn't caught them yet. We bought tickets just to see the drummer of Nirvana in person and before this Foo Fighter project fizzled out 🤣. For the headliner every musician there that night got on stage to back the legendary Mike Watt. There's an album of that set released a few years ago. Eddie Vedder took off the costume, sung only one song, then played rhythm guitar for the rest of the show. Dave on drums. Pretty sure the ticket cost $15 or $20 ($30 or $40 in 2024 dollars). 🤘
