Nutrients are an essential part of healthy watersheds and aquatic ecosystems. However, excessive amounts, especially in the form of phosphorus, can reduce water clarity and quality for drinking and recreation, result in unpleasant odours, and - in a worst-case scenario - lead to harmful algae blooms that are toxic to people, pets and livestock. The Salmon-Safe Farm program, hosted by the Fraser...

For questions that were not addressed in the webinar, please find answers from the speakers below. Q: What are the primary algal groups driving the recent blooms? A: A taxonomy report was done by Larratt Aquatic Consulting on August 22nd, for BC Ministry of Environment & Climate Change Strategy and First Nations Health Authority. Anabaena sp. (recently re-classified as Dolichospermum) dominated the sample as the leading bloom organism. Several other species were noted. Q: Is there a technical document that accompanies the "Understanding Nutrients and Water Quality in the Shuswap River and Salmon River"? A: Yes. The research team at UBC-Okanagan produced technical reports. They are available at www.fraserbasin.bc.ca/Water_Quality_Reports.html#nutrient Q: Who provides the funds for the grant program? A: There are four funders for the Shuswap Watershed Council’s work. They are the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (including the District of Sicamous), Thompson-Nicola Regional District, City of Salmon Arm, and Adams Lake Indian Band. Q: Have you noticed a correlation between the catastrophic fires we have had in the last few years and the algal blooms happening? increased runoff in spring from the burned-off areas? A: That is a great question. As a Council, we do not have a field program but we have asked the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change to consider adjusting their monitoring programs to capture the effects of the White Rock Lake fire (2021) on the Salmon River and downstream to Shuswap Lake.
any where i can get a peavey or cant logging pole? lower mainland....used is fine..thanks
Oh, the irony.

I was in the 2021 Flood and it had more to do with the Nooksack River but it was also affected by high levels of the Fraser River stopping the Flood gates from the Sumas Prairie side
Preparing for a big flood? Really? According to Mayor of Abbotsford nobody expected such catastrophic events in Nov 2021. This is pathetic. Still preparing? czcams.com/video/o6ktS3Ex4TU/video.html

wow just came across this n I live in mission. when we had the snowfall n then floods n highways falling apart n Abbotsford n so many places. Once that rain came the floods were many n much damage to lots everywhere. I see this video now n going to watch part 2 now
This is not climate change it's the wrath of God you people killed and murdered to possess the land and now you're descendants can't rest until they recognize the people that killed his murder and pay back what is owed to their descendants
what are the odds?? wow...in this video these individual's were talking about a coming flood to lower mainland...and wow...guess what happened?? Folks, time time again we are seeing these warnings whether drills about a virus in 2020 Oct, then covi d hits, or a chance drill including the US air force literally practicing for a "plane and tower" attack on the day of the attack 20 01 we need to give each other some slaps across faces, and WAKE THE F up to whats going on.... sorry to burst ur bubbles, but reality is the reality and you can ignore it all you want until it wipes you out. How stupid have we become?
It is time to repent.
Flood plain, below sea level
Last major flood was 35 years ago, they are still working on the report for that. If this is NOT a failure of the gov, I don't know what is
Well , they have been trying to bring down the real estate prices. This should do it.
Nope, it won't. What it will take is Vancouver being hit with an earthquake of 8 or higher on the ole Richter scale. Something that would flatten 3/4 of the city. The other thing that would work is for Canada's economy to totally implode to the point where five million dollars won't buy a loaf of bread. People starving, due to money being worthless. Massive hyper-inflation. I doubt this flood will lower real estate prices at all.
Amazing! Floods happening since 1894-but all of a sudden it’s climate change, what was the excuse in the previous century? Populating a lake bed or along a river bank at some point will result in flooding.
Greetings Kelly how do I get a hold of you I have some questions for you I remember you I wanted to know if you still remember me
I want to know what these stupid flood management program did to stop the flooding in BC in 2021.?
Ok people why din't the Flood management hold the WATER in DEC 2021? What ever you politicians do is against nature. STOP the logging that causes mud slide and floods.
Well.......what would you know.....? Too bad people didn't pay attention?
when I grow up I want to live on a Flood Plain ....
Don't try to controll nature!!!
Climate change…… what a handy lie. The ocean has not risen. We would certainly have been told. 1894 ? Was it climate change then ? That was the worst flood. 1894 How stupid do these no nothings think we are ?
meanwhile we just approved logging more old growth in watershed areas on the Vancouver Island. Now that's what I call taking action!
btw, CO2 from life on earth does NOT heat it.. the sun does.. the sun is getting hotter
ssea level rise is not happening.. all the richest ppl in the world are buying new waterfront properties and islands.. they would not do this if they would lose them.. hawaii provees this.. maui has roads feet from the beach that never flood
Hearing all the BS about climate change
history ALWAYS repeats itself...why? because a singularity rarely ever exists, and not to mention the most corrupt passion of man..greed
Quit blaming it on climate change, and stop the greedy logging companys that are raping the forests. Take a look at the clear cutting. Its grown by leaps and bounds.
Why do people continue to build in Lake beds and Deltas. Let mother nature do what mother nature does best. People move to high ground, use some commonsense.
This isn't a flood plain, this is a lake bed trying to restore itself. Mother Nature will always win. Restore the lake and move on, learn from the mistakes.
its a flood plain from hope b.c. west, because there is a small shallow lake 50 k from hope does not change the fact.
Time to consult Dutch experts !!
While some people are busy making sure we say the correct gender pronunciation. They don't know what real problems are. SMH
I guess nows the time to find a woman that can hunt fish and split some wood and head up country. The entire lower mainland is gonna see this yearly now. Imagine being cut off with all these people who denied this and did nothing about it. Its not as though theres no money around these parts. Get what we deserve I reckon. Reminds me of Noah and the arc as all the peeps stood by laughing. Hang on to your panties folks. Somewhere between mandates and mother nature this show is only gonna get better.. Earthquake kit she said.. LMFAO I said.
As usual the did not walk their talk soon enough.
Turn farm land into fish farms, simple.
you're all full of shit, when you build your cities and towns in a river bed this is what is expected, stop building in river beds, and climate change started 60 billion years ago, the earth is going back to its normal temperature, remember we're not suppose to be here, we were created because of an accident
Good thing they acted swiftly after this video came out last year. 👀
all the people in this video should be fired for not doing anything..
I love how this report ignores that major floods occurred fifty years apart with minor floods in between when they talk about the risk by 2100. Bureaucracy created by those not affected paid for by those most affected.
Don't buy land on a steep hill or a flood plain. Floods, earthquakes and landslides hate this one simple trick. Maybe we should allow our floodplain farmlands to flood. We could get some of that natural fertalizer while also taking pressure off cities built on floodplain
We build cities on floodplain then we're surprised when the inevitable happens. I'm not even upset. Let mother nature do her worst so we learn our lessons.
The area where sumas lake sat in the 20's has sunk 20' due to subsidence. That means less water needed to flood just as bad now. Just like in California, Corcoran valley used to be a giant lake that they drained and the land has sunk 26' in the years since. Land will continue to sink and thus making flooding more prominent unfortunately.
dont blame the natures climate better changes the planning the old plan doesnot work at all improve the dike x2 or x3 dike and higher fraser valley is a low land its a sea level improve the construction plan every thing should be marine cement or pozzoland for water dike
Solution: Send in the Dutch!
Or 2021!!!
And now it has happened. Not action, but BC's reaction. Sad!!!!
