Worked .... on a late 2011 desktop iMAC. Many other videos do NOT mention the "option" button. But once the "recovery mode" / internet process is done, the APPLE logo / boot sequence begins but it does NOT start the computer ....

This just happened to me. And it is probably just the update that did it, since the laptop screen came back as I was doing the steps. I didn't even get to finish the whole process.
