Passive j bass pots are what they are. All the taper is in the first bit of travel. So just turn the knobs a little bit. Like a car with a good accelerator, small movement = big difference. Active basses are different animals.

Probably you are using logaritmic pots, instead of linear ones, that’s why they are working that way. Also, you may consider using a single, master volume pot, and a blend/mix pot. You’ll find it more useful, and easier to go back and forth between pick mixes that you like.

Just getting into bass rigs and pedals. In a very basic set up, could an EQ pedal be used in place of a pre amp?
