Thank you so much for your video. I'm in a relationship with a dyslexic person, and all that you have said makes sense... now. I have been struggling to understand why we are arguing every week and to be told I don't have empathy. I find that I am always accused of doing something wrong, and there is no accountability acknowledged from them to our issues or heated arguments, which go from zero to 100 over trivial things or a misunderstanding. Also, I'm always being accused of looking elsewhere for someone else in our relationship, which is not true. So, your video did help me to understand the mindset, but it's very difficult as I have feelings too.

I think dyslexia is one of those things that presents itself differently in everyone. I have it mildly in terms of reading, but my spelling has always been terrible. I don't recoughnise that its hard to realise your imagination. Im actually really good at doing things with my hands and making stuff. Vocalising toughts or writing them down is tough dough. And listening to people, especially game explanations is tough. Im also really good with higher education math or calculus but I was bad at everything they teach you in primary school. The worst thing is that I feel like a weirdo because people often don't understand my way of explaining things, and my terrible attention span. The best thing is the creativity I got back for it :) I also don't recognise the automating thing, I will do everything slower and with more chaos😂

She helps me which a lot of stuff but I also have to be on top of my game having two kids which quite a challenge. Also in the process of getting diagnose of ADHD is another string to my bow. Can’t lie it has been a strain on both of us and the kids. I think she got a lot of patients being with me which I am somewhat difficult at times.

That is spot on, I could never understand in school why they didn't tell you what the purpose of maths sum was! Not until I see the whole picture can I get motivated. In work I need to understand the end game before I start a task. I am surprised that seemingly intelligent people flip-flop on an idea to move forward, I've come to the conclusion that they can't see the big picture, so didn't really have a plan before they started or were not convinced by their own vision. Although I would not consider myself to have ADHD, I often find it difficult to not be over thinking and I have to tell myself to shut-up😂

  • @strutstipher

I'm Dyslexic but have no issue what so ever making a decision. I do find it difficult to argue a point with someone when they put up a counter argument, as I have three or four alternatives retorts come in to my head at the same time, and by the time I chose one I've missed the continuity and have not been able to flush the idea out while still being attacked, but being able to bag down on the a right path to move forward whether in business or personal life no problem.

We are both dyslexic. I also have ADD which drives my wife crazy sometimes. Right now we are most concerned with helping our 8 year old who is also dyslexic and really struggling with learning to read and write. I will add about our relationship that we have different dyslexic personalities. My wife is the over achieving dyslexic who will work extra to get where she wants to be in life. I am the kind that held himself back, making sure jobs were safe and reading and writing were not a big part of my duties.

I've learned to stop what I am doing to listen if someone is talking to me. Most of the time I can't focus on two things at once. I hated this in school when my mind would wonder off. I would tell myself at night, having trouble sleeping from all the thoughts in my head of what I should or shouldn't have done, that tomorrow I would pay attention in class. Same thing again. couldn't stay focused. Now I realized that it was something they said that triggered a thought. Once thinking about it there was nothing to get me back focused on the lecture. Notes? forget it. I couldn't write and listen simultaneous. so why bother.

This is something I’m learning about for myself. Last year was my first year going back to college from a seven year break. I got re-diagnosed for dyslexia F81.2 and dyslexia F81.0, I also got diagnosed with Irlen syndrome. Now, being in my 30s, having this knowledge, I wish I would’ve learned how dyslexia would affected me as an adult in my daily life and in the workplace. I never realize that my anxiety plays a huge role with my mental health and overall health from my dyslexia. This was the reason why I dropped out of college the first go around. I got very overwhelmed with school and working full-time at one job and part-time at their job that I had a shingles outbreak when I was 23. Now, having this knowledge, I’m more aware of recognizing that I can only do one thing at a time which is why now I am taking it sabbatical from my business and only being a full-time student. ❤ I wish I would have learned this to know more about myself, but also how to integrated in life. Even how to use it in owning a solo business or working with clients and time blindness. Just how are you both mentioned. It’s always about your academics, but it’s never about lifestyle and livelihood and even adult hood. There’s not much support unless you’re in college. I’ve also learned about myself is: • pronouncing words • short term memory • not able to describe or explain things • my vocabulary isn’t well and broad • can only work on one task at a time • get bored easy and always need change or need to learn something • get to places 1 hr or 30 minutes early but working with clients I always run behind, sometimes 30minutes - 3 hours. If they are my only client. They like to talk and time gets head of us. • now starting to tell people I have dyslexia if it happens to come up, instead of hiding it and pretending I don’t. Because I don’t wanted to seem stupid. I’ve noticed when I tell people that I discovered this about myself and dyslexia they discredit it and say everyone feels that way. Which yes I understand, but it almost feel likes when you tell people you have dyslexia and they said “oh I think I’m a little dyslexic too”. Thank you so so much for this video ❤
