K příběhu filmu Tobruk jsem si tak říkal, když jsem to viděl, proč tam Marhoul dával, podle mě tehdy, nesmyslný případ šikanovaného Žida. Proč ukazuje takové nesmysly. Klapálek si Baťováky (aneb vesměs čs. Židy protože ti tam byli nejvíce zastoupeni u Baťováků, kteří šli dobrovolně k čs. zahraničním jednotkám a Jan Anotnín Baťa jim v tom nijak nebránil) velmi chváli a ještě více si chválil českém Němce. Stejně jako bolševický pohunek Svoboda. Říkal jsem si, že naši Židé mluvili jistě Jidiš, což je skoro Němčina a naši vojáci měli všeho německého po krk. To jsem si říkal správně, jak se ukázalo, ale netušil jsem, co se tam dělo. Pak se mi dostala při psaní vzpomínek na našeho rodáka u 311. peruti do rukou knížka Z denníku radiotelegrafisty. Z deníku jistého Pavla Tofla. Najednou jsem četl slova naprostého primitiva, totálního antisemitu, netáhla a lempla. Pasovaného do role hrdiny, když už proti Němcům padl, který se ovšem hnusně vůči i židovským i nežidovským spolubojovníkům vymezoval a jak to tak psal, nebyl zdaleka sám. No a nakonec, jako poslední díl skládačky, při psaní toho příběhu, vzpoura našich vojáků z Cholmondeley. Měl jsem zato, že se tam proti boji s Německem postavili komunisté, dostat se k těm info nebylo snadné, Češi ve svém dějepisu strašně lžou. To se komanči sice na rozkaz Stalina postavili proti boji s Němci, ale Češi už nepřiznávají, kdo se tam vzbouřil ještě s nimi. Tam na mě vypadly prasečiny předmnichovské první "demokratické" republiky. Příklad: když jsem s příběhem toho našeho rodáka začínal, hlásal jsem přesně toto: Sudeťáci měli všichni viset za vlastizradu. Během tří dní jsem zjistil ověřováním, že všechny mé info k tomu, co jsem měl obecně odevšad možně, jsou jen české lži. Nebudu zdržovat, zkrátka, podle ověřování snad dva měsíce, protože jsem tomu nechtěl věřit: v Cholmondeley se vzbouřili všichni baťováci proti čs. důstojníkům aneb sprostým čecháčkovským náckům, kteří si říkali legionáři. Nejhorší chamradi mimo bolševika, co jsme ve dvacátém století měli. Důvod: odporné zacházení těchto "ynteligentů" s vlastenci, kteří se dopustili jedině toho, že jejich mateřština nebyla čeština, i když česky i díky Baťovi uměli tak, že je nikdo od Čechů nepoznal. Do detailů nepůjdu, můžete si hledat jako jsem musel hledat já. Výsledek? Z naprosto podřadných postavení vysoce kvalikovaných chlapů ovládajících tři až pět jazyků a další specializace samozřejmě, v čs. jednotkách, byli tito chlapi přeřazení k Britům na vysoce zodpovědné posty a nikdy návrat do ČSR. Marhoul se k tomuto, co já vím, nikdy oficiálně nijako nevyjádřil.

Looks like the filmmaker was right in shooting this scene. There is a sequence like this in The Painted Bird in which an Einsatzgruppen soldier takes the boy to a railroad track in order to shoot him. The SS officer sequence is another thing entirely.

Very glad that Stellan is in this movie. I love his morally ambiguous tone and intelligence. But I seem to remember from the novel that the scene he is in actually features an SS officer whom the boy looks up to like a blonde angel in a stained glass window. Now that is a morally ambiguous sequence, but, I think in the movie the screenwriter/director has changed things a bit but not too much. I am looking forward to seeing this when I get the chance.

One of the world’s greatest actors. The character he portrays is a loathsome piece of shit, that you just wanna kill. The fact that he arouses this detest in a viewer attests to Julians brilliant portrayal. The dialogue in this film is limited. The character is revealed by action, body movements and facial expressions, some of them very subtle.

Unfortunately - this is a duplication of Kosiński. What's worse, Kosiński turned out to be a liar who used the Nazi Exploitation fashion in Europe and USA and created a lie...his book. He was in a dire financial situation and it was a great step for the writer into pure business 💰. The writer combined fiction (Nazi explo. - fashion) with reality (the fact that he lived in Poland occupied by the Germans). Kosiński is a liar who survived the 2war thanks to the Poles who gave him shelter. He lived in very good standard opposite to atrocities of war. Interestingly, young Kosiński even had a maid ...🤣 The naive West accepted Kosiński fantasy as a science history. To this day, the awareness of the historical facts from the times of WW 2 in the minds of the West is poor knowledge. Today's typical German does not know what his grandfather was doing in 1939 in Poland. This is the paradox and the tragedy.
