the opening notes and the scene where riggs and murtaugh look into each others eyes and the silence speaks volumes. both glad to have had one another in their lives. brothers to the end. the look he gets from murtaugh followed by riggs simply saying "i know". such a great scene.

I love that it sounds like the first theme from the first film but with a more upbeat tone, Riggs wasnt a suicidal burn out on the edge, Roger Murtaugh gave him the family he needed and his family adopted him, and it reflects in the theme so well.

Even though Rika had less screen time, I always felt she was the better love interest for Riggs. Rene Russo and their romance always felt forced to me. They really should have used Shane's original script and killed off Riggs at the end.
Killing Riggs wouldn't feel right. It'd feel right if he died in the first film it'd be a poetic ending since he had a death wish but not in this movie it'd ruin everything, these movies aren't full on serious, dark and depressing they're also meant to be uplifting and feel good hence the comedy in them, killing the protagonist would feel so weird. Riggs overcomes wanting to kill himself by being taken in by Murtaugh and his family at the end of the first only to die by being shot by a villain in the second movie? That'd piss audiences off. No idea why Shane Black wanted to do that. Also the 3rd and 4th films would never happen, ok they aren't as good as the first 2 but they were decent especially the 4th.
@@patrickbatman141 I think he wanted to do that because it was never meant to be a "funny" movie. Especially part 2 was heavily re-written, leading to Shane to not be participating anymore after that. So it would have been a fitting end for the original script. And isn't it more realistic that we don't get happy ends each time? I wish more movies would dare to go for that, like Arlington Road or The Mist :). Maybe that's why they also cut parts of the 1st and 2nd movie? In the first, they mainly cut the sniper scene at the school where Riggs basically begs for a bullet. Then they cut the scene where he picks up a hooker just to watch tv because he is so lonely. And that scene in the bar. Especially the hooker scene is actually sweet, I think, it shows how lonely he is, but that he isn't a bad guy.

+Pete Privitere David Sanborn on alto sax ... but i´m not sure if it´s not his David Sanborn band from late 80´s (Hiram Bullock on guitar, Marcus Miller on bass and .... i don´t know who is the drummer .... i´m jazz drummer and listener for many years and i love this soundtrack for more than 15 years but never got to my mind to ask who is actually drumming on this track ) .... it´s not omar hakim, it´s not alex acuna (i´m hesitating), it´s not weckl, it´s not colaiuta .... it´s not gary novak ... i don´t know who the star can be ... but his drum skill is pretty damn pregressive and contemporary
