The Swan (1956) | Costume Design
The Swan was the second to last film Grace Kelly made before she married into royalty, so it was fittingly a princess story. Grace’s gowns were designed by MGM costume designer Helen Rose, and they are the quintessential Edwardian dresses in white and lace.
The film’s exterior scenes were shot on location in North Carolina, at the 1895 Biltmore Estate of George W. Vanderbilt in Asheville.

The Divorcee (1930) | The Sophisticated Modern Wife

1930’s The Divorcee, was a pre-code film that exposed the hypocrisy of modern marriage. The film stars Norma Shearer, Chester Morris, Conrad Nagel, and Robert Montgomery as New York socialites. It was also the film that started “Gowns by Adrian,” showcasing glamorous 30s fashion. Norma Shearer’s portrayal of the sophisticated modern wife won the 1930s Oscar for best actress.
Classic Styles .. always look good in photographs 30 and 40 years later! Don't go trendy. Even the way she dressed everyday still look fresh in photographs. Good lesson for all young women to learn ..
The narrator's voice is irritating!
Couldn't finish the video because of the voice! It's so annoying.
Better to show the movie than the narrative.
Lui era bellissimo lei non mi piaceva
I love that dress. Minimal yet elegant.
Best dress ever for a young bride
❤
She wasn’t wearing a bra I just noticed. Fine for her tiny boobs. Had I done that at my wedding it would have been called porn! She was a rare beauty.
"Algeria" is an odd first name for a woman.
My favorite wedding dress of all time.
The chappel was so romantic🌷
I loved her wedding look. But it’s too plain for me. And I am a minimalist!😂😂😂
What’s with the voice 🙄
they were such an attractive couple
I would rather hear Kirk Douglas, etc. Whats with the narration ?! Ruined the enjoyment. I'm outa here.
This is exactly the style that Jackie was reported as saying she would have chosen for herself, but her father-in-law micro-managed practically every aspect of that wedding, down to the dress, which she always said made her feel like she was wearing a lampshade. So glad that JFK Jr. & Caroline were able to pull this off & have the PRIVATE wedding they deserved.
💗
This wedding dress was simple and yet elegant.
Commenter's voice assaulted my misophonia; sorry, couldn't watch.
Her dress was beautiful. And also they were very pretty and elegant couple. The deserved for a happy life❤
I never cared for her dress or her hairdo. Cheryl Wagner
How long has she been dead?
Didn't really like very much!
Wow for very first time, I can see finally more photos of her wedding dress.
Who?
Parece un camisón.
I never liked this dress. It looked like they got out of bed and decided to go get married and she just left her ninightgo on. People only raved about it because of who she was marrying.
Elegant ladies back then, so beautiful dresses Women and men outfit are crazy nowadays. Terrible look
True. Less is more 🪽.
Carolyn was two hours late for her own wedding. Her future sister in law, Caroline, and other guests were highly irritated. She was late because could not get that ridiculous dress slipped on over her head. Seamstresses had to take it apart, get it on her, and then stitch it back up. Ridiculous. No sleek dress makes up for the rudeness of making your guests wait for you in a hot, sweaty little chapel, with no air conditioning, and no electricity. They were supposed to be married during daylight. By the time Carolyn got there, it was dark, and they had to light candles, making it even hotter. I'm sorry that she died, but she showed how classless she was on her wedding day. She was a rude person, with a huge sense of self-importance, at the expense of others.
Wow. That’s a brutal comment. 😮
@@cw5451but is tru
Seems odd that she didn't try it on before the day and learn how impossible it was to get on.
@@maryok4099 great point
Classless, would be this comment. Unnecessary. Rude.
I can't listen to this simpy voice------awful.
Now this was in good taste. ❤
What an awful voice this is, was a baby speaking ?
This wedding dress was directly influenced by 1930's silk satin evening dresses. They are quite revealing & only for the best figures.
Still feel so very sad about this couple ! How beautiful they were 🙏🏻 RIP
That slip wedding dress was everything!!!
Great video!
The narrator needs to work much harder. The delivery is awful!
To the narrator, the word 'recognized' has a 'g' in it, which is pronounced. So it's re-coG-nized, NOT re-co-nized.😊
Excellent, will have to watch this.
I saw "My Man Godfrey" for the first time last night (on Tubi) and was really wowed by the stunning fashions. New Hollywood could learn a lot about tasteful and glamorous fashion from old Hollywood.
It's still a "gender neutral" colour, my husband has several pink shirts. He's not magically any less of a man when he wears them.
That Can't be your real voice
Haha, I’m putting on my narrator voice, but that’s me.
The voice is annoying.
F.Scott Fitzgerald¡¡
I see Cedric Gibbons did the art direction so he would have designed the sets with those fabulous art deco rooms.
Thanks for covering this film. The beauty of the internet is it opens films of the past to younger people who can learn about the past.
Pre code films were way before their time. Absolutely brilliant films.
