This would make it less complicated to make an additive synth, you could just ignite the phase of each wave. But I realise this trick only works for sine waves. While you can construct a pure sine wave out of a sum of square waves (or triangle waves or whatever else), this only works because the harmonics cancel out. Having different phase offsets will cause the higher frequencies not to cancel, and hence the sound will be a lot harsher. Maybe it would be fine if you created square waves with their phases set to cancel out frequencies by default, I’m not sure. It might be easier to use sawtooth or triangle waves, depends on how the oscillator works. Hope it’s easy with squares, I want to use 4046s to make an additive synth.

When I was a kid, the book that described the previous Castles of Merridel and the lost Treasure Vault really captivated me, and the fact we had to physically descend through both layers of rock and also time, it called to me! If this map hadn't been cut it would have been my favorite by FAR.

Have you ever been able to find the “werelupe king boss battle” music? During the pre-rendered scene after the boss fight there’s a battle theme that’s briefly played, but I don’t believe it was composed just for the cutscene… especially considering the boss battle just plays the standard werelupe battle theme which always struck me as odd. That, and the fact that there’s no distinct battle theme for the Ixi Chieftain always struck me as odd…

Hi, thank you for this video, it was very interesting. But I still don’t fully understand it. Could you explain how to reproduce this effect on a DAW ? I tried to play with the phase of different oscillators but I couldn’t manage to change the waveform shape without changing the harmonic content.

Phase does have an influence, though it is very strange as you described. Try opening up a saw wave and editing the phase of one of the higher harmonics, in the 800-1200x frequency of the fundamental tone, and you can hear a difference. It's freaky!
