    I had the same problem and it is most likely your windows. The sun is hitting your windows at some point of the day and it is reflecting that heat onto your cover and melting the foam inside. I live in Southern Utah and the sun is so intense where I had my tub that the cover is literally half as thick as it used to be.

    Greetings! We have an old gunite pool (almost 40 years!) in Southeastern PA. We are considering resurfacing the concrete OR having this Ramuc paint applied. You are now 4 years in! How is it holding up? I really want something that will hold for decades, since it's an expensive project either way. Thank you!

    • @JanAddams
      @JanAddams Před rokem

      Hi Dawn, We repainted again this year (we didn't have to but wanted to be ahead of it as we don't want to do it again). The short answer is - yes. We have a saltwater pool and it is wonderful! It has held up well if you ensure that all the chemicals (PH, Chlorine etc.) are balanced. If they aren't you will get chalky paint that gives you a bit of "milky-looking water" For example: if you slide your hand on the wall you will have a "chalky" substance on it. It's not a big deal but it is something to consider. If you are at all concerned, as it is a big job and once you paint you can't go back, I would recommend calling a professional pool resurfacing company in your area to get a quote and advice. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck! Here is the link to us doing a second painting in May of this year 2023 >> czcams.com/video/rbNCJuFGbpQ/video.html

    Why wouldnt you recommend this job to the average pool owner?? And what disc did you use to grind up your pool?

    • @JanAddams
      @JanAddams Před rokem

      Hi Red, I wouldn't recommend doing this for the average pool owner unless you have renovation experience, have good knowledge of how pools work (watch lots of CZcams video tutorials), and understand how to use a 2-part epoxy paint (you must follow the instructions as when you combine them and after set up you have a short window to use it as it dries really fast and the fumes are incredibly toxic. You also need a good-weather window and be able to commit to the time needed to drain, grind, clean, dry, and paint. Know that things can and do go wrong and you will need a calm head and attitude to fix them. If you can say yes to all of this, then you are good to go!

    If you’re in the suburbs, try contacting the fire department. We were able to get 5 lengths of 1 1/2” hose, a spanner wrench and nozzle. A volunteer fireman, flushed the hydrant, then hooked up the hose and nozzle. It took us about 2-3 hours ( I think?) for 20,000 gallons of water. It was cheaper for us than the hose. I think we paid $60. The volunteer wouldn’t take any money so we dropped a case of beer at his house. This was over ten years ago.

      @janaddamshomelifestyle5758 Před 2 lety

      Hi Cindy, Thanks for your kind comment <3 To answer your questions, we did a lot of research before we decided on the Ramuc Hi-Build Expoxy (we used White) and it has held up really well. This year we did notice a bit up 'chalking' when we 'opened' our pool in May and were trying to get our "Salt Water" chemicals / PH balance correct. We added too much salt and the Chlorine went up higher than we wanted or needed but it settled and when it balanced out it was fine. FYI - we keep our chlorine level at the lowest level and all is good. If you do decide to do this yourself - watch as many videos as you can and PLEASE be sure to use proper PPE as the fumes are really strong (thus the mask, gloves, goggles, and coveralls). In answer to the "Mermaid Costume", I love the ocean and am a 'secret mermaid' - yes, I swim with my Mahina Fin in Maui. Even my grandkids call me Merma. The Mermaid tail I was wearing was from www.FinFun.com a few years ago! Glad you enjoyed my video!

      @@johnnysouth4982 I live in Orlando, FL and our pool has this chalking problem. It's no fun! I "fixed" it for about three years by prepping and painting it with Zinsser Pool paint... 3 years later Zinsser is bubbling and peeling revealing the old paint...the old paint is turning the pool cloudy again.. sucks.

      @@TheLostBrain sounds like calcium level is too high or alkaline might be off what they don't tell ya is pool paint will blister the pool shell isn't watertight so to speak it always has moisture trapped in it when you paint it you trap that moisture behind the paint skin/layer and it causes bubbles / blisters even if you scrub the crap out of it before you paint also I would question a house paint company making pool paint need to stick with ramuc or use a marine grade paint I have even heard of people having a rino coat bed liner material installed in their pools have no idea how it would preform though

    Had ours painted last summer. The guy that did ours had it out of commission mid March to mid July. This summer I notice missed spots. Will do ourselves next time...especially after watching your vid!

      Hi B.W. ours was out of commission for 3 weeks from start to finish including filling the pool and waiting for the salt and chemicals to adjust and for it to warm up. We plan on doing a touch-up coat in another 3-4 years but that will be much easier than what we did originally! TIP: Make sure the weather is warm and dry for a 2-week window and you do the 'patch test' on your concrete after you drain your pool to ensure it is dry or the paint won't adhere. We are so grateful to have a pool during this COVID Quarantine summertime! Good luck with yours :)

    I'm repainting my pool right now. This is the second time. I did it about 3 years ago. The problem I had was some bubbles. I noticed one step you didn't do. I looked at several sites to make sure I had included all the steps. The one I'm talking about is the acid wash. They say to use a 50-50 mix of muriatic acid to water. Apply it using a Hudson sprayer, that's the easiest way. Do a little, scrub it with a brush on a pole, and then rinse. Several sites mentioned that. Your pool looks great. I wondered what part of the country you were in. I"m in Ca. and it gets pretty hot here so I have to paint in the early morning to avoid putting the paint on a super hot surface.

      Hi Jim, Thank you for your comment. In answer to your question, we didn't do a wash of muriatic acid because of all the grinding we did. Our understanding was that muriatic acid was to help etch the surface to make the paint adhere better. We did the "patch" test to ensure the concrete was dry and then we painted "thin layers" in the midmorning before it got too hot. We let the paint dry fully and then did another thin coat (4 in total). Between each coat, we constantly checked for bubbles & any problems. Living in Vancouver, BC we can get some pretty moist weather so we were lucky and hit the perfect 2 weeks to do our pool. The Ramuc Pool paint was excellent! However, even though they say it is good for up to 10 years, we plan on draining ours again in 4 years and do a touch-up coat. Cheers! Jan

      @@candidosantos9742 I was pleased with the final result. At this point I do see a few bubbles but not nearly as many as I had seen previously. I'm not sure if I'll do it again this year. It's been two years now. I could wait another year I guess. Funny thing. I called the company that does pebble tech to have them come out and give me a price. That has been over a year ago. I called several times to see where I was in the plan to come out. The girl kept telling me that I was definitely on the list and that they let me know when they could come by. Nothing. That's pretty strange. I could call the company in Sacramento but that's too far to come here. These companies are a franchise but the fellow here isn't exactly on top of things. Anyway I was thinking I would do that but I don't see that happening since they don't even call back.
