Vancouver Island Mountain Biking - Cumberland Trails - Thirsty Beaver, Old Vanilla, Crafty Butcher
Day 1-2 of a 5-day MTB trip to Vancouver Island in our new Sprinter! The Cumberland trails are full of cool woodwork and nice rock features and make great use of elevation. They sure are dry and loose in July, though.
Route followed: www.trailforks.com/route/classic-cumberland/ (But climbed Sobo No Michi all the way rather than switching climbing trails.)

Mountain bike ride with my parents on a family trip to the Quebec City area. My parents, Jim and Jill, are 73 and 72, respectively! Shaman is a blue flow trail at the Empire 47 riding area. Great for people who love wide, smooth trails where everything is rollable.

An unexpected surprise: two humpback whales just off the beach in Pacifica today. We saw fins, tails, and lots of plumes from blowholes. They stayed in the area for about ten minutes. This was the only decent video I got.

Where can I find these drops?
Most of these drops are either in: - The Gem Lake lift line; stay just skier's left of Gem Lake Express and you'll find a bunch of small cliffs to play around on; or - The Narnia glades; these aren't marked on the map but I believe they're in the "Black Out Glades" or "Sapphire Glades" section. You'll know you've found them because there is a "Welcome to Narnia" sign posted on a tree. Probably best to ask a local for exact directions. Two specific drops are in other zones: - The drop at 4:45 is skier's right of the Falcon Chair. You'll be able to spot it from the lift. - The drop(s) around 5:15 are just above a cat track somewhere in the Gem Lake area; I wish I could give better directions for this one but there isn't a good reference point on the map.
