When Yanks gob off about the USA is 'The greatest Country in the World' I just say "Not with your dumb health care system it ain't" I am 77 and I am on 6 medications a day to keep me alive. And I don't pay a penny. Why? Because here in the UK we look after each other and by everyone paying a little we care for those when they need it. Oh and no its not 'Socialism' Yanks it 'socialised health care' like your socialised civil service, military, police and coastguard but your lawmakers in Congress make sure THEY get free healthc are. Go figure.

I've said this elsewhere, but it bears repeating; when it comes to the healthcare industry in America, your choices are bankruptcy or death. The same politicians who say we can't have taxpayer-funded healthcare have taxpayer-funded healthcare. It is pure, inexcusable greed, and I don't know how the people who perpetuate this insanity can look at themselves. It's disgusting.

These stories are legion. Awful pain for so many and the reason always trotted out is that America can't afford it. There's just no money. A new additional stealth bomber for ten billion? No problem. Another 20 year long war to sell weapons for trillions? No problem. If you turn the military into something that can never be questioned, never be subject to criticism or qualification then it will never be costed, just funded. Americas tax goes into that machine and the citizens miss out on services considered normal everywhere else....and please don't wave the "we're protecting everyone else" flag. Protecting them from what? free medical care? - even the perennial baddies like Russia and China have it. It must be possible to support the troops and the public in a place where single individuals can accumulate billions - if not, something is deeply broken.

My husband became deathly ill last year, with what, we didn't know. After a week of fever and eventually becoming barely able to walk straight, I rushed him to the ER. We can't afford insurance and thankfully are never sick... but this was serious. The doctors didn't know what was wrong, ran every test... his liver and kidneys started to shut down, his platelets were so low his lungs and esophagus began to bleed and his o2 dropped. He was put on a ventilator because he was so delirious that he kept pulling his oxygen out of his nose. The only test that came back positive was for mono. After about 5 days he miraculously started to improve, numbers normalized, baffling the doctors. They said, "People who are that sick don't just "get better" within days,". After 7 days he was released... and then the bills started to roll in... over $200,000. Are we supposed to pay that off over 30 years like a mortgage? Staying alive shouldn't bankrupt you. Say what you will about how "advanced" our hospitals are or the medical facilities...but the fact is, unless you're wealthy... you'll pay for it for the rest of your life.

Now that we have a good president in power right now, who could care less about you scm, we can finally get rid of that wretched lower middle class. Another 4 years and bye-bye
