    Excellent. However, the next question is, 'What can we do to be totally happy and content with ourselves?' Now that's a thing to contemplate and talk about!

    • @benhenriques8116
      @benhenriques8116 Před 4 lety

      zephyrquartz very good question! And the simple answer is - practice meditation and compassion! It’s not easy of course, but even a bit of meditation and compassion can increase our happiness a lot!

  • @zephyrquartz
    @zephyrquartz Před 4 lety

    Things may ultimately have no substance, as we may not (presuming this theory is true), and therefore there is no reason to fear anything at all, but on the relative level we do exist and things we fear do also. The question remains: how do we deal with the things we fear here on this relative level where we appear to exist? Each fear is unique to the individual and must be addressed as such. The question is, how do we find the answer for the fear that will best address and resolve/dispel it? If, for instance, a group rises in power that threatens to take our homes, our land, our legal system and livelihoods (as happened for Tibetans when Tibet was taken over by China), do we simply allow them to take it (and our lives and those of our loved ones), or do we fight back? If we fight back, what method do we use that will save us and those we love and stop that group before it gains that sort of power over us? Those are some real questions to contemplate.

    • @benhenriques8116
      @benhenriques8116 Před 4 lety

      Thank you for your thoughts - all good points! You are quite right that, Ona relative level our fears are real and we have to deal with them. I would say that realising The insubstantial nature of the fear IS dealing with it on a relative level. If I meditate and reduce or negate my fear through realising it is insubstantial, that is effective on an every day relative level. Of course I can still respond to the situation - for example I might meditate to overcome the fear that the symptoms I’m experiencing are a really serious disease. But if my meditation does reduce my fear I can still choose to go to the doctor and have my symptoms assessed. In other words realising the fear is insubstantial doesn’t prevent or frustrate action. In your example about Tibet, how Tibetans respond is a separate question to how we deal with fear - you can be frightened and pacifist or frightened and militaristic - fear or lack of fear need not determine your physical response. Of course just telling yourself the fear is insubstantial won’t work because it’s just another thought in the mind - the point is to truly see that the fear is insubstantial.

    Thanks Ben for enlightening us. A few questions if you don't mind: 1. Where does the name Chenrezig come from? 2. Is Chenrezig the same as Avalokitesvara or Guan Yin Bodhissatva? 3. Is Chenrezig manifest into thousand eyes, thousand arms? 4. Is Chenrezig a male or female? 5. Did Chenrezig born out of lotus flower like Guru Rinpoche? Because mantra is like Mani Padme ( like Padmasambhava? ) Thank you, with Metta ( btw, like your English accent and you are very young, indeed. )

    • @benhenriques8116
      @benhenriques8116 Před 4 lety

      Hi there! Good questions! 1. There have been various translations but “Chenrezig” means something like “one who sees with an unwavering eye” or one who hears the cries of the world” - the point is that Chenrezig sees and hears the suffering of all sentient beings. Yes, Chenrezig is the same as Guan Yin and Avalokiteshvara. Yes, Chenrezig manifests with a thousand arms to help beings. But Chenrezig will manifest in ANY form that helps beings. Chenrezig is depicted as male but ultimately, Chenrezig is beyond male and female. I’m not an expert but I understand Guan Yin is sometimes male and sometimes female. Yes, Chenrezig manifested on a lotus in the land of bliss and was adopted by a king.
