There is an issue with 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐫 & 𝐅𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐫 of 3ds Max in which an hair instance node causes the object it is on to also get the same material of it so today I found out how to give a separate material both to the skin mesh and instance node hairs.

(TyFlow) Easier way to make Splines follow a path
zhlédnutí 726Před 3 lety
Today I learned a better way of making splines more easily follow a path with TyFlow, instead of using the Path Follow node (that can sometimes be more difficult to control) I used a Find Target node on a moving object that has a regular (3dsMax's) path constraint applied to it over the spline path, this way it follows the path instantly without issues.

Very nice animation. You’re actually the person who inspired me to start making underwater renders
Thanks :) really? that's a compliment to inpsire someone else, thank you, I never thought I would inspire anyone to also create underwater renders or animations, cool.
@@mrEC1987 question - are you using any kind of volume material (volume absorption, volume scatter, principled volume)? Because whenever I try that with real caustics the results are less than favorable
@@EvenEEvenII No, I actually don't use volume with the Blender shadow caustics since they don't work well together, it's because it is still not really supported so it causes weird artifacts and it looks wrong.
@@mrEC1987 I’ve developed a method to fix this. You have to move the volumetrics cube/object slightly *above* the sea floor. You could also slightly lift it above the creatures/other objects or you can just increase their brightness with a hue/sat/val node to make it look right.
@@EvenEEvenII It works? nice, I didn't know that trick.
Maybe you know how to morph objects based on distance between two helpers?
It was using this way that this video shows but only using scale mesh operation script line of code on the vertices of the loop of edges in the middle of the object, you can use MaxScript Listener to get the right command line code by scaling or doing something in the viewport to get what you need (but some commands are not showing up in the Listener so then you would have to look up into the MaxScript help files which mentiones all command lines.
@@mrEC1987 eh yes but completly dont understand how to change shape
@@edgarprotsko1558 Basically it wasn't really changing shape, it was simply scaling the middle verts and since it was a low poly + mesh smooth modifier on top of it, it looked as if it was changing most of its shape gradually..maybe you can show me exactly where you are stuck at or the full code you are trying to perform and I will look into this (or I could try to find the scene file of the muscle sim and send it to you since I can't open it up with no 3ds Max installed)
Very good! " using the script controller that according to the distance of the two helper objects that are located at both ends of the muscle that it scaled the middle set of loop vertices outwards using soft selection as well" - and and how this script works ? Its hard to real time morph muscle by distance of helper - whats the trick?
Thank you very much, as far as I remember the trick was mainly to use a script controller (as I mentioned before) which is able to perform things in real time in the viewport...in this case it scaled out the middle edges of the muscle in real time using some ratio calculations I did which I completely forgot. BTW I managed to do a similar muscles simulation in Blender (the free 3D program) using Geometry nodes and soft body/cloth simulations and it turned out really nice, even better than this one since in 3ds Max I had no real solution to the skin of it that holds the muscle inside it and in Blender their cloth simulation after tweaking is able to act like a skin and it is able to contain the muscles with almost zero issues, also it allows me to even give weight distribution for the muscles which is a bit more realistic, I am more satisfied with hat I got using Blender but I am still working on improving it.
@@mrEC1987 Can you try to remember how to use script controller
@@mrEC1987 maybe this can help to remember czcams.com/video/GfoXWe7jGCo/video.html
i cant see the "Shading" option in my object properties.
What Blender version are you using?
Heeeey! Give us more information. Since hercules was discontinued, we need a better solution for muscle in 3ds Max
Well I worked on it along time ago and I uninstalled 3ds Max which I ditched about a year ago and made the switch to Blender so I can't recall what I did exactly but it was something to do with making sure using the script controller that according to the distance of the two helper objects that are located at both ends of the muscle that it scaled the middle set of loop vertices outwards using soft selection as well...that gave the illusion of a muscle contraction and change of shape mechanism.
@@mrEC1987 you gave me hope and took it away from me! Hahahha no worries, man! Tha K you for explaining the workflow. I'll take a look at it!
@@Baarth_ Well sorry, maybe you can come up with something on your own hopefully and maybe even sell it, why not :) but yeah, at least I could recall some of it and give you a hint about how it used to work.
Thanks ! I had a trouble where a flag simulation I made had blocky shadows on it ! :)
Cool :) glad I could help someone
You know how when you make an indoor setting in blender, you can put lights on the roof, but it comes out in chunks? How do you fix that?
Sorry, I don't really understand your issue, maybe explain it further to me, I might then be able to help you.
Thanks saved me a lot of time! Much appreciated :D

This tutorial is exactly what I was looking for. Skipped 10 videos to get here. Thank you for making this tutorial!
👍 Cool, glad I could help someone with this video.
Yes my friend, is amazing technique. I use your technique for a spaceship animation. For my documentary. Thank you. I am rendering now in Full HD so fast, without adaptive sampling because the denoise is remove all the noise. It renders with transparency background, so I can import in After Effects and make the spaceship fly! Very happy :D
@@daanthijssen1748 Cool, good luck and have fun with your project :) (this technique is not mine though, I just followed another tutorial's steps and created a simple how to short video for it).
MUITO OBRIGADO
No problem, glad I could help.
Theres also a shadow box size option in eevee, although that doesn't help a lot, still helps a bit to improve shadow quality while increasing memory usage and stuff :/
thank you for the fixes...I have the blocky or bad shadows in Eevee. Another one is increase sampling number for Viewport and/or Render under Render Settings (in the left side tabs). It doesn't work for every situation, but it can help in lighting. One aspect to account for is the far upper right dropdown in the 3D viewport, next to the Viewport Shading modes. Scene Lights and Scene World, when enabled, can have bad shadowing. However, the environment is set by default to use an HDRI, which if you don't want that reflecting on the mesh / material, you need to do a series of steps to change. There's a video on youtube about it I saw, and probably a number of other videos I haven't seen yet.
Ah, I see, I did not know this, thanks for your comment and insight on the issue.
Will you sell script?
Thanks for your interest, I only now noticed the comment (YT didn't show me it on my bell), I don't intend to sell it, I might give it for free one day but I've no time for working on it and I also ditched 3ds Max since then and moved on to Blender.
How do you find spuds for sounds design?
Thanks !
Good! Can we know more how you do that!?
Saw your comment only now, well I worked on it along time ago and I uninstalled 3ds Max which I ditched about a year ago and made the switch to Blender so I can't recall what I did exactly but it was something to do with making sure using the script controller that according to the distance of the two helper objects that are located at both ends of the muscle that it scaled the middle set of loop vertices outwards using soft selection as well...that gave the illusion of a muscle contraction and change of shape mechanism.

NICE VIDEO
Thank you
that's a good solution although it could still create some issues, tried with weighted normal and autosmooth ;)
Well, then sorry, these solutions are the only ones I know so far and they are good enough for me and most people I think, I'm still a beginner in Blender, I've quite a lot of things to learn but I think there is no perfect solution to this issue.
Thank you!
Thank you for watching 👍 Glad it helped.
Hey man it looks good ! How did you do it ? Do you know a tutorial ? Thank you
Thank you, Since I created this a long time ago I barely remember how I made it but I think I simply used copies of splines from the pipe spline (that had thickness on) to create internal splines on a bit different offset positions and then I put a path deform (wsm) modifiers on blue cylinder objects (primitives) for each internal spline to make them move on these splines (with a simple spinner animation), then I exported the png images of their animation as a sequence of images to be used in Premiere, then in Premiere I used I think motion blur perhaps + some glow that I created using a copy of their nested animation with gaussian blur on it + a suitable filter to make it look like it is glowing.
