2024 Gebhardt Distinguished Lecture featuring Subra Suresh
The Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering welcomed Professor Subra Suresh as the Gebhardt Distinguished Lecture speaker. His talk focused on how deep learning from nature and machines can catalyze opportunities for enhancing human creativity and facilitate new scientific discoveries and technological innovation. Here, research involving experiments, computational simulations, and deep learning from nature and machines are combined across disciplinary boundaries to suggest pathways to realize unprecedented mechanical, functional, and/or electronic properties of materials for a variety of applications in engineering, energy systems, soft robotics, and biomedicine. He presented research results and applications from three different fields: materials engineering, biomedicine, and plant science.

    About the dancing starlings at the end of the presentation, it would be an interesting experiment to tag each of the starlings in the flock with a GPS transmitter. With this, more exact data could be collected on their individual moments when flying in these formations.
