Oh my gosh I'm so sorry to hear how that happened to you. That sounds really heartless and I can't imagine what that must have felt like. Especially if you've built some great, long relationships with your teammates. I hope you take some time to decompress and process everything, and I hope you find a place that has a bit more empathy ❤‍🩹

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's the reality: Anyone who is no longer working at a company with access to company data, code, folders, etc is a legit threat. They have a security obligation to cut off access immediately. And please remember this: Anything you store, develop, code, etc on a work laptop is the company's property. It was never yours. After 19 years is horrible. I'm sorry to hear that I can't even imagine. It may take some time for you to heal, but you'll come out stronger. You've learnt the hard way to never buy into a company's "we're a family" BS. The only thing that matters is the connections you make that'll carry you forward.

I'm sorry to hear the job market there is just as bad as it is here in the states. Getting interviews are super tough but I hope things look up for you soon 🤗

Hi! Long time no see! Thanks for the encouragement. I forgot we're sort of neighbors. Maybe someday we can finally meet. For my streaming setup, I use a Mac and use Ecamm which is really easy to use compared to OBS. I think got my overlays from Etsy because it's way easier than trying to make them myself. Haha. Do you use a Mac or PC? I can give you suggestions from there based on what I know :)

Hi there! Sorry I missed your question before. I think this is a great question. As far as a career break, I'd say the best way to get back on track is to take time to learn the new languages and tools that are more in demand, maybe creating a sample project on Github. Tools to learn: Postman (API testing tool), Cypress or Playwright (UI automation), Appium (mobile automation), and Jmeter (performance testing tool). That's a pretty long list but if you check out Test Automation University website, there are videos and tutorials on learning that you can follow alongside. Also, as far as portraying knowledge you learned off the job, you could either create a Github profile and upload sample projects or on LinkedIn, add what's called a Career Break and then list what you learned during that break. Hope that helps :)

I'd do it anyway honestly. It's mostly computers filtering through them first anyway (or so I've been told).

I can definitely understand how overwhelming and frustrating it might be but take it one thing at a time. User acceptance testing is adjacent, so make sure you have that highlighted on your resume!

@@ebubefavour734 I don't see too many junior or entry level jobs in my search however, I'm sure they're out there. If you truly want to get into QA and are a beginner, I will say the gaming industry is always hiring for entry level testers. That's how I got my start. But there are definitely some cons to that industry. In your job search though, if you focus on looking for analyst or junior level QA as a part of your keyword search, those tend to lean more beginner level without requiring experience. Looking for a job while you have one is definitely the least stressful. And yes, the market is tough. Do you have a Linkedin and have it up to date? That'll definitely help take some of the pressure off of looking, since hopefully if its updated and has the right keywords / skills, recruiters will come to you. Hey! So sorry I'm getting back to you so late. I don't have much experience writing automated tests for video games but I do know they exist and have looked into positions. They lean more towards roles called SDETs and they generally program in languages like C# and use tools like Unity for automated tests (at least from what I've gathered). I'd say you're more likely to find manual testing positions over technical / automated ones in the gaming industry because they're still catching up in my opinion to having dedicated technical engineers for testing but they're out there. You'll want to look at specific game studios for these roles though (Bungie, Blizzard, etc). Best of luck of your search :)
