I could never imagine calling a plumber to replace that valve... Its probably the easiest thing to do....
I found their customer service to be outstanding. I have replaced both cartridges and it cost me nothing due to the lifetime guarantee. The rep was great and the whole process took less than ten minutes.
The Kohler shower valve in our bathroom is quite different and so far not covered here on youtube. It is a "shower only" type valve similar to Kohler part # K-8304-KS. There is no tub/bath faucet. It is only 5 years old and leaking through the shower head.
Outstanding. I have to work on the Berwick fella and im still figuring out 😊😢
THANK YOU!! I finally figured out what was wrong with my 20 year old American standard shower valve $22 fixed done
What is the model number for the first cartridge you show in the video
Thanks for posting
wont center with a bottom sweep
Thank you for taking the time to do your video.
Like the new "Flash" universal valve by A.S. vs this older valve setup. New valve is shared by A.S. & Grohe allowing for more trim options. Much easier to replace cartridge and install valve vs the older A.S. valve / cartridge system shown here. Live in an area with relatively hard water and have the older valve shower system as shown here in kids shower going on 8 years now and have yet to replace the cartridge. Like ceramic vs rubber considering our city water is chlorinated and normally wears our toilet valves.
great video! I called American standard when our 1675 failed and had no issue with them at all. sent the parts out right away.
Quite helpful. Thank you!
ceramic discs cracked on two different cartridge units :(
Aren't there center adjusting screws? Tom...... are you still alive?
accurate and short video. shows what is needed to do without all the silly jokes and time wasting verbal interactions with the viewer. Mahalo
ANY PARTS NUMBERS?
My 3/8 frameless door wont stay closed i dont know why
Very shallow explanation. I was hoping for a breakdown of the thermostatic valve, it didn't happen. I found this posting pretty useless.
Do these crossover?
How to you adjust this when the bottom scrapes?
^This
I know this is old but the green filters at the end of the second cartridge gets clogged with rust all the time. What can I do? What does the green things do? Can I remove them?
@DebtFreeCars consider putting a house water filter in on your homes water supply. City water and well water can have sand, rust, and small grains of pebbles in it that screw the valves up. Take the aerators off your faucets and likely you will see it caught in the screens. A household water filter will reduce the amount of that stuff getting through to your fixtures especially if you place it after the water heater. Just putting it in the first supply line will help but having one after the places corrosion takes place helps even more. I only have one filter right now but am considering putting one after the storage tank too
I have a new one installed 5 years ago, just now getting house up and going....turned on and only a trickle...watching this makes me think I have hope because all I did was an up down motion and hardly a trickle came out...Are you saying I can push left right as well on this? If so, it may be what's wrong. I pulled the first piece off and I have flow out of the pressure balance module...just nothing comes out of the faucet with the first piece attached and my lifting up or down....almost ready to order new guts and give it a shot....I can't see any debris...plungers work in the PBU behind the rubber o rings and I can't figure out how to remove the grey pieces on the side of it as is mentioned in some of the literature I ran across....but it's not the PBU, it's the other one that the handle attaches to that is not doing right or me probably...will check tomorrow and see if right left is an option as you mentioned in this.
Thanks for the video. Dose any one know the model numbers to the handle cartridge and the pressure balancing cartridge. I need to fix my Grandma's shower.
Good video, but I could not disagree with your more. I understand this is an older video, but as a homeowner I work on the Symmons valves all the time. The plastic handle shown replaces an older cast metal handle that would corrode onto the stem. The newer plastic WILL NOT corrode. Parts are easily available, and may be covered under the homeowners warranty. Replacing the hot and cold washers is easy and cost effective, watch other videos to see how. Replacing the valve seats can be difficult and may require either special tools, or a plumber who has the tools. Overall, I do not see the Symmons line as a plumber's line of valves.
your video suck too far away from your stuffs ok
How to get the handle off the 1700 .
My handle is so corroded a handle puller doesn’t work. I’m going to have to saw it off. So this video is super helpful.
my wife went to use the use the shower and the water comes out very hot as soon as you crack the valve open...it's almost as if there is no cold water.it's a symmons valve.....do you have any tips on what it could be?
I agree 100%, their Customer Service is worst. They don’t have any walk-in pickup facility. At one time I waited on the phone for more that 1 hour, drove to their office/warehouse; they got terribly upset, why I have come in there. I showed them the phone still on wait. The guy grumpily went in the back office and still didn’t give me the parts. He told me that they will ship to my address. Perfect strategy on how to fail a successful business. Now, a Japanese group has taken over AS. But service remains terrible. I will never ever buy their products.
where can I find a replacement thermostat cartridge, thermoelement for panel II
Agreed
Thank You Tom. Your information was exactly what I needed to fix my faulty shower valve control piston. Works great now. Thanks.
Very helpful video! I’m the home owner struggling with Symmons. Debating if I should buy a new shower system instead of going thru so many videos to find the replacement for symmons.
Thank you , great video
That is true about century door bottom drip edge....the adhesive failed and I can’t find an adhesive tape strong enough to hold it for more than a month
Kohler seems to find a way to jack up repair cost. I’ve learned that on my shower and my toilet. On the kohler toilet they even made a special designed seal between the tank and bowl that’s expensive for no reason.
What kind of faucet is compatible with the 1st cartridge?
*Very elegantσσσ>**allmy.tips/DeltasValve?Aa•• ** The plumber installed the mixing valve and my husband was able to install the finish kit. Truly enjoy the looks. Very classy looks and works well.*
*This fit nicely in our new shower.σσσ>**allmy.tips/DeltasValve?ww≖ ** Instillation was easy. The value works nicely and I love the trim color.*
*we use for all our vanities moen products.==>**allmy.tips/MoenTshower?eE- ** we are using them now since 6 month and they are of solid quality. never had an issue and they work fine and look nicely. i would recommend to buy this product to anyone who likes the look.*
Nice
So you mentioned adjusting the hinges so door swings a little past the adjacent panel. How?
i just watched 5 'comparison acrylic showbase' type videos and they were just ads for Acrylic. what a waste of time. this video is SO MUCH more helpful.
You can get all parts if everyone calls symmons
I have a1700 from 2008. Will Delta send a replacement cartridge & Which one is the one I need?
Not sure where to ask this question. Can you give me your opinion on Newport Brass and Phylrich? Thanks in advance.
Do you notice decreased pressure between the standard temperature mixing valve vs the pressure and temp one ?
Great video!! Thank you
What is the function of the grey round pieces on the pressure cartridge they don’t move but have gaskets why
Interesting. Thanks.
