He tried and failed
Someone has chopped the branches off the old cedar tree!!! Sacrilege!!!
Nice
Was thinking of going there till I read reviews
That bad??
@@PressTheRedDot according to reviews who do you believe
Never stayed there, just had some food which was ok.
@@PressTheRedDot just ok mm thanks
Absolutely beautiful
Excellent restoration on the gatehouse, its looks mostly original ! Substantial castle complete with outer walls, ivy and countryside.
Very beautiful. Liked and subbed!!
Awsome video matey, really enjoyed the smooth flight and superb transitions. Inspiring for sure 👍 Shame the house is derelict and will probably fall into ruin but imagine having to clean all them windows and by the time you've opened up all the curtains in the morning it'll be time to close the bl**dy things at night. 😂😂 Great work looking fwd to watching some more.
I should preface this by saying that I'm no expert, but i think this sort of design with some small modifications would probably have been fairly defensible. A triangular design would mean that any approach would leave you in sight of at least two towers. This probably would have been a strong keep had it been built on a hill and during the middle ages. At any rate, it's far more interesting to look at than authentic medieval tower houses, with some spires atop the towers it would make a great looking fantasy castle I think.
Absolutely spellbinding to watch matey. You certainly captured some varied and interesting places fabulously put together in a pro edit. Brilliant stuff. 👏
Great view of the castle from the air. Is there any chance I can use a couple of seconds or so of your footage to add to my amateur CZcams video I took there last summer. Unfortunately my DJI drone ran out of battery elsewhere on the day we visited and your footage was brilliant. Fully understand if you prefer not to though, but if you don't ask you don't get. 👍
No problem- as long as you subscribe and show me your video afterwards :)
@@PressTheRedDot Awsome. Cheers matey already subbed ya (feel free to recipricate 🤣). I'll give you credit for the clip in the description as well. 👍 I did take some drone shots as well but forgot to press record again after taking a photo and didn't realise until it was too late and no spare battery. 🙄
Hi Once again thanks for the use of your orbital footage: you use a slightly different resolution and frame rate than I do but I think I made a brave stab at the video anyway. It goes public soon but here is the unlisted link: czcams.com/video/aLKAmCII0Hg/video.html Hope you like it, and it certainly needed your contribution (I have edited your donor footage with your YT Channel and mentioned you in the description). Cheers Again. 👏
I wonder how much it would cost to finish it? I would love to know.
Let's put our money together and we'll get it done next week
@@PressTheRedDot well I've got a tenner in crypto any good?
Such beautiful scenery, thank you for sharing, fully watch new friend here, stay connected
Stunning views of the castle, great footage! Enjoyed that, new sub! 👍
Fantastic footage. I was there last Sunday.
incredible drone footage! Has this footage been used commercially? If not, would love to talk further if possible to use footage for an indie project we are thinking of embarking on! Thank you
Hi- it has not. And happy to talk more about your project!!
@@PressTheRedDot Where is the best place to reach out to you?

Surprisingly convincing for a 'Baroque' newbuild - it will indeed slowly rot and sink into the marsh - as its monster of a creator, 'van' Hoogstraten is now 79.. still pursued by the law, and dare not return to his native Sussex, lest his innumerable crimes catch up with him. As 'vanity projects go, l like it, but get infinitely more pleasure in the fact that van H expended [allegedly] £40 million on a building site HE will never inhabit..
Eso es el reino unido. Una fachada decadente y hueca... 😑
Nobody cares what you think. Go away.
Elon Musk said he was going to buy the place..

Still in excellent condition, too.

Hi 👋 I deliver to that Amazon depot and have been wanting to fly my drone out to the uboat! Always too windy when I'm there! Did you access that area from close to the amazon security or farther away?
There's a wooden shed with a broken pier in front of the amazon warehouse that we got to. Flew directly from there.
Very sad indeed.. But, isn't there a very rich billionaire that can restore this beautiful place. I mean really now..... Let's hope for the best. Only time will tell........ 😢😢
Ruins are the legacy of their past and serve as a reminder to us that not even the rich and powerful can thwart the passage of time. I don't believe that any ruins should be restored - their natural state should remain for all to admire and imagine and not be deceived by a camouflage of modern restoration.

Such glorious sadness.
Thank You. I try to instill that feeling of a sorrowful haunting past - even in it's most magnificent settings, everything has to come to an end.
thanks - the pairing of the music w/ the tempo of the video is great - thanks again - i like your other stuff tooo
I moved to Mereworth last year and wondered wherebthe castle is..I would live to visit, hopefully one day could be opened to the public, beautiful, a hidden gem
What a weird but wonderful place, reminds me of the USA Federal Arsenals where munitions were built in WW2 through Vietnam.
Agreed. Totally bizarre, but still has this air of historical beauty around it.
Cool video 👍
Thanks 👍
Hi - Would you mind if I used some of this Drone Footage in a CZcams Photography please - Will of course be happy to credit you in the Description
Hi Neil. No problem - but let me know the channel/link when you're done! ☺️
Hi Neil - did you use any footage in the end?
My Great grandmother was born in that castle my great great grandfather was Edward Hadlow... Ms.Susie H. lebanon,Oregon I wish I could buy it back 😊
That's awesome. Any footage or pictures??
I have a picture of my grandmother had low of her brother author and a picture of a necklace that she wore at the girl school there on Church Street one of the nuns gave her my parents stayed in the castle picture of my moms and dad standing in front of it
awesome! Thanks
Great footage 👍
Thanks loads! Just subscribed to you btw
Great video liked and subscribed 👍
Thanks loads, subscription reciprocated.
Weird design, what a state that building is in.
Totally agree. Quite unattractive imo.
What is the building with the lake around it?
Hi - just some kind of ornamental boathouse I think. I originally thought it was the mausoleum (which he included for tax/inheritance purposes) but it's not. That's inside somewhere.
@@PressTheRedDot The mausoleum is on one of the far ends, I believe the western one. He showed us it on a documentary many years go. And you're right - a mausoleum or burial site makes it a perpetual trust, which means it's sealed and nobody can ever touch it. But given the building is never going to be finished I think he's on Plan B and has put most of his assets into businesses and trusts run by his children.
Excellent
Thanks loads ☺️
This skeleton of a castle is the symbol of his ultimate failure to reach his ultimate goal in life. He blew it.
Too true. But he was a nasty piece of work by all accounts, so this is probably a constant reminder to him of what he once almost had.
Apparently this property is now owned by a company managed by his children. He knows it'll never be finished, and it doesn't appear anyone is making any effort. My guess is that a perpetual trust was the core driver behind him being buried there, because mausoleums and burial grounds are tax-exempt for a very long time if not forever. That means the building's would-be contents i.e. his personal wealth and treasures would also be so. However, it does look to me as if he's taken the common tax-efficient route of transferring ownership of all his assets to trusts and to his family, hence his own personal wealth is very limited. That basically takes the edge off your tax liabilities and is totally legal. This is why so many people whom you'd think were loaded (celebrities etc.) always seem to leave behind suspiciously small estates when they die and were apparently broke.
He did that while he was being taken to Court by the family of the business partner he had murdered. When he lost the case & was ordered to pay several million in compensation he said he couldn’t, he had no money. Technically he wasn’t lying!
Very much enjoyed your video, love Scotney, it's such a great place for a walk. The old castle is my personal fav, but the new house on the hill is also pretty special too. Great flight!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great shots, when was this taken?
A couple of months ago! :)
@@PressTheRedDot was there a way of getting into the grounds and maybe the buildings?
No. It's fully fenced off with warning signs everywhere.
Thank you for the video.
You're welcome
